Media and Muslims – whom do we believe?

The Geller Report accuses, with good documentation and justification, the Mainstream Media with spreading a false narrative about how Muslims are THE heroes of the Houston-Harvey cataclysm. Apparently ignoring the “usual” heroes and such politically-incorrect groups as the Cajun Navy and the large number of christian relief groups and volunteers (and huge numbers of private businesses) helping the many victims of the natural disaster, they are pushing the idea that Muslims are demonstrating the love of Allah for others. Even while their photos and interviews and data prove that it is business as usual for the Islamic Society of North America, the US franchise of the Muslim Brotherhood.

I just saw an example of this today on an NBC website with all kinds of pictures of hardworking Muslim volunteers – all sitting around and praying in the middle of the street (I guess to prove that they were Muslims). Just as the pictures in the Geller Report (from Mainstream Media sources) showed a few people being helped in Islamic cultural centers – but oddly enough, all appearing to be Muslims. I have no problem with people prioritizing aid to go to their fellow believers. I do have a problem with the MSM lying about it to paint an erroneous picture to sway public opinion. Your right? Or you’re wrong? Part 2

(See part 1) Sometimes, maybe the standards can change. Often that is because technology and tactics change.  Being allergic to horses used to be a serious problem and would get you down-checked.  Not so much a problem anymore. Once upon a time a soldier had to have near perfect teeth (to tear open the little packages of gunpowder to pour into your musket.  Today you can have a few fillings and maybe even a missing tooth, because you don’t have to load muskets anymore.

There are some things that can be accommodated, and there are some jobs that can accept people with certain problems – but less than you might think.  A military force exists for just one thing, to wage war.  It should be limited to defensive war, but such war is no less physically, emotionally, and morally demanding than offensive war and worldwide interventions.

Robert Heinlein pointed this out in Starship Troopers. Yes, anyone, even a quadriplegic, could volunteer for public service and win citizenship.  But there was no place for being in military uniform that did not come with very stringent requirements that had to be met – and then was tested in training in which many (even most) were washed out. Your right?  Or you’re wrong? Part 1

Recently, the establishment is resisting the recent announcement by the current Commander-in-Chief that “transgendered” people will NOT be allowed to serve in the military.  This came up the end of August as it became clear that bureaucrats (and bureaucrats pretending to be soldiers) have “suspended” the executive order to discharge currently-serving transgenders and stop enlisting them.

As a lover of liberty, an anarcho-capitalist (who more and more infrequently refer to myself as a Libertarian), who am also serving and have served in the military, I am going to step on a whole lot of toes with this commentary.

The purpose – the legitimate purpose – of the military is to defend the liberties, lives, and property of the community.  Whether that community is a rural district, a town, a city, a state, or a nation (a confederation or union).  Nothing should distract from, or damage the ability to carry out, that mission.

That is why we must discriminate in the military.  That is why the uniformed services, whether they are volunteer “unorganized” militia or paid, professional part-time (Reserve or National Guard) or full-time (Regular) forces – or even privpol (private police) or security or peace officers, are not “equal opportunity employers.”  We cannot afford them to be. Suppressing our liberties

In These Times (which I believe is a leftist webzine) has an exultant article by Peter Cole about how wonderful the most Tranzi of unions, the Dockworkers et al, just shut down “fascists” in California and were therefore going to teach the entire “labor movement” (itself just a subsidiary of the transnational progressive movement) how to do it.

Let me quote part (thanks to the folks at Freedom Net Daily): “What role should the labor movement play in beating back the resurgence of fascism? Resistance, while a powerful concept, is far too vague. Local 10, the San Francisco Bay Area branch of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU, perhaps the most radical union in the United States) demonstrates what can be done. This past week, the San Francisco Bay Area–long a center of unionism, social justice movements and radicalism–took center stage. Patriot Prayer is a right-wing organization with a demonstrated history of inciting racist violence, most obviously in Portland, Ore., while ironically asserting peaceful intentions. The far-right group declared it would rally in San Francisco on Saturday. Local 10 took a lead role in organizing counter-protests that contributed to the San Francisco event being canceled the day ahead of its scheduled event. The union’s role in this wave of popular mobilizations demands consideration.”

What a pitiful nation we have become. Twitter (disclaimer: I do not and have never “Twittered” anything or accepted a Twitter from anyone) has become a tool of intimidation and blackmail. What is worse is the thin-skinned business and other managers and people who seem to think that a negative Twitter will destroy their lives and businesses.

The events around Hurricane Harvey in Houston illustrate this, starting with the way people responded to a report on looting. I’m not defending Llamas or ANY higher-up in a Mainstream Media “news” organization, but the backlash is disgusting. ABC News chief national correspondent Tom Llamas, as reported by Yahoo, told cops (with whom he was deployed) when he spotted someone looting a building. Many on social media accused Llamas of snitching on people in need, arguing that there is a difference between “looting” and grabbing food and supplies to survive a devastating emergency. And ABC caved.

I am sorry, but stealing is stealing. Whether you are stealing televisions or bread or bottles of water or money – it is STEALING. It is wrong. Continue reading →

What wimps we are

In this degenerate and wicked generation, it comes as no surprise.

In 1900, Galveston (once the port city for Houston and now a major port and part of the huge Houston megaplex and “suburb” of Houston) was hit by one of the most horrific hurricanes ever to land on North America or the Fifty States.  The estimates of dead (many no doubt at the bottom of the Gulf) were between 6,000 and 12,000. Men, women, and children, of every age and race and social class.

Today, hours after the main blow of Hurricane Harvey, the mainstream media are screaming with huge headlines and much angst about the death toll of – get this – EIGHT people from supposedly the worst hurricane to hit Texas in fifty years, if not in recorded history – even worse than the 1900 hurricane (which has its own website).

And along with that, the media is screaming its condemnation and horror about the hurricane, the failure of government and everyone else to prevent these deaths, and all kinds of really stupid political nonsense.

My readers know that I do not shy from condemning any government for being stupid, tyrannical, and often, incredibly silly.  But this time, this commentary, I’m not going to condemn them.  And not just because that would put me on the same side as the media. Continue reading →

Hurricanes and Other Disasters

I read The Rational Review News Digest every day, except weekends and holidays when the editors take a break. Other than that, I don’t generally read much of the “news,” since my appetite for having my intelligence insulted and being lied to is definitely limited. But sometimes I brace myself and peek at “Fox” and “Drudge” just to see what I might be missing.

Therefore, since I won’t see much, if any coverage at RRND about the Texas hurricane until Monday, I looked at some of it yesterday and today. What a mess.

The thing that strikes me is how seriously so much of the “news,” and the attitude of the people, treats this weather phenomenon as if it were something unique, as if it had never happened before!

We’ve been talking about history lately, and the no brainer is that these storms and various other disasters – and lots of little inconvenient incidents in between – come along with monotonous regularity. The storms and floods and winds and tornadoes should not be any real surprise to anyone these days. Even people like me, who don’t watch the news, can look out their windows, talk to their neighbors, and at least get a clue when storms and such are coming. Continue reading →

Western civilization – crumbling?

Is “Western Civilization” falling apart?  Some recent stories seem to make a very strong argument for that.

Google and Facebook have been in the news for years (at least in alternative media) because of their complete lack of concern for the privacy and the free speech rights of their users.  Yet, last week, The Hill reported that these firms (and others) asked the Supreme Court to rule that their users’ data should be protected from warrantless search and seizure by the government. The companies filed a brief in the case Carpenter v. United States, which the court has taken up to decide whether certain cellphone data is protected under the Fourth Amendment. The brief states ‘Whether email, cloud computing, location-based tracking, or any other digital functionality is at issue, users consider many types of collected electronic data to be private — particularly given the personal details that information can reveal — regardless of whether transmission to a third party has occurred behind the scenes in the creation or processing of that data.’

Gee, so apparently it is okay for the companies to force users to reveal personal details, to mine their users’ data for anything they like, but “heaven forbid” that the government do that?  And these companies are willing to risk government regulators’ wrath to make this point?  Something smells, for certain. History Dialogs

Well, that wasn’t quite the response I was looking for… Someone wrote to me immediately, not bothering to leave a comment on the article, thrashing me because he thought the whole piece was an attempt to demean “black history,” and say it is all a myth.

I just read the whole thing again and can’t see where I said any of that. Not even close. So, I’ll try to boil it down a bit to be clearer, I hope.

History is what you make of it, what you remember, value and pass on. Our history is a combination of things that happen to us as individuals, and things that happen to us as communities, geographical areas, ideological positions and so much more.

Each individual, family, community, etc. is directly responsible for the “history” they make, value and preserve. NOBODY can destroy that kind of history, unless nobody bothers to preserve it, of course.

“Black history” isn’t the only relevant history in the world, or even just in the US. Not even close. Continue reading →
