The question was recently asked, Can a city the size of Los Angeles rely solely on renewable energy sources like wind, hydroelectricity, and solar power without the use of fossil fuels or nuclear power plants?
In today’s American and Californian political climate, more and more pressure is being put on utilities (including municipally-owned and -regulated ones) to “go green.” Even natural gas is deemed by environists and their shills in Congress and State legislatures to be so evil it must be eliminated as quickly as possible.
The utter stupidity of this is revealed by questions like this. Because the answer is incredibly dire.
… A whole host of historical tools of tyranny and corrupt government.
We’ve all read the labels and shelf-stickers telling us about the store brands and generic versions of various foods and drugs, right? “Compare to BIG BRAND NAME whatever.” Sometimes it is true, and that can save a lot of money for shoppers. Indeed, sometimes the generic or store brand is actually superior to the well-hyped and pricier brand name products.
It is much the same in government and political circles, isn’t it?
More and more we read comparisons of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (the FBI, the Feebes, the G-men, etc.) to such infamous organizations as the Ost-Zone (DDR) Stasi and perhaps the KGB and its predecessors.
I think there is strong evidence in 2024 that there is an organization far more like the FBI than those evil organizations. And it is much more than the idea that the FBI is an evil organization. (As lovers of liberty: free-market anarchists – we see all government organizations as being inherently evil. Even when they sometimes do good things.)as it and those are.
That organization? The Pretorian Guard of the zombified Senate and People of Rome: the Roman Republic.
Editor’s note: Hopefully, all readers will see this as the satire it is intended to be.But these do make us think about this activity. Provide your own reasons to, or not to, vote this year.
A Baker’s Dozen reasons NOT TO VOTE in the Presidential election in 2024
Joe Biden
Donald Trump
Robert F Kennedy Jr.
The (still unknown) Libertarian candidate
Jill Stein (Green)
It just encourages them all
It is yet just another advance auction of stolen goods
If elections really made any difference, they wouldn’t have them
I have much better things to do with my time, like cleaning out my attic
I don’t want to upset my relatives. Or my neighbors.
I do want to upset my relatives. And my neighbors.
I don’t want to feel morally bound by participating.
I can’t vote “none of the above.”
Whatever your reason(s), be thankful that elections in these States are not mandatory: we do not have to risk some sort of punishment if we do not wear an “I voted” sticker at the end of the day or the next day. Nor do we have elections as an official holiday: we can still call the nfront office and various other businesses and expect to hear a human voice on the other end. (Even if after punching in a long string of numbers into the silly answering system!)
But the worst thing about elections is the very poor choice of selections: not even a “none of the above” in most places. But as you can see above that is just one of at least thirteen reasons to avoid darkening the door of your nearby voting place.
Let alone voting early or by mail. But THAT is another commentary.
Why not say them? Well, it generally isn’t (99.99999 percent of the time) because that gunowner is going to hate you so much that they remove you from the land of the living. (99.99999 is one chance in 10,000,000.)
And it is not because we are going to stop being friendly – or even friends – with you. And certainly does not mean that we aren’t going to use our weapon to defend you if you are attacked and are innocent. It doesn’t even mean that we are not going to defend your right to say whatever you please, and hate guns (and gunowners).
But… we might talk you to death as we very carefully (and usually very lovingly) talk you to death. Explaining in great detail (and hopefully with no profanity) why you are so wrong in saying that here in the States in 2024.
We apparently have now entered the longest general election campaign in American history. With both Uncle Joe and The Donald securing sufficient delegates to win their respective gang’s nomination, they are now officially able to go after each other tooth and nail in a massive fit of political theatre. Which has already indeed started, at an intense level. Nasty enough to make us more than leery as to how incredibly down and dirty it will get between now and the Noverber elections.
As someone pointed out, the first presidential political rematch since Eisenhower was challenged by Adlai Stevenson.
Lucky us.
And for all of their many faults, Adlai and Ike were generally polite gentlemen: at least in public. Stevenson didn’t even bring up to butcher bill of the European Theatre in WW2.
But now? Forget the minor candidates like RFKJr and Jill Stein, and whomever will carry the torch of the Libertarians, the Natural Rights Party, the Prohibitionists, and the “non-torch” of the No Labels bunch. We know that The Donald and Uncle Joe (or is it better to be called “Godfather Joe”) and their haters will dominate the news, the talk shows, the social media, and more. It is, indeed, the political battle between the senile old guy and the insurrectionist.
And the “lower level” races, whether the Senate or the House of Representatives or State (and even local and tribal) elections? Even more nasty. No wonder incumbents are dropping out like flies in a hot bay window instread of facing what they no doubt consider the horrors of the next seven months.
The disgusting nature of American politics – the sausage making – is fully on display. And getting worse.
To us at TPOL is it not obvious?
It is clear that we are seeing a terminal illness. Further treatment at this point is fruitless: we are probably left with monitoring the life signs and making sure that arrangements have been made.
A correspondent recently found and shared this quote from the father of Communism and Socialism:
“Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered; any attempt to disarm the workers must be frustrated, by force if necessary”
Now, just based on this one quote of Marx, modern American “liberals” (Progressives/regressives) clearly do not channel Karl. For this is clearly completely contrary to the vast majority of Democrats and especially their more extreme elements.
So the answer to our headline question is a resounding “NO.” Whatever they may claim. But he wrote many other things that seem burned into the brains (or at least the skull cavities) of too many today: enemies of liberty, parasites on the human race, people who (assuming they can be considered intelligent) lack reason and common sense. And any sense of proportion.
Surely, dear Karl must have said a few other good things. Surely he loved puppies (or kittens) and maybe (some) children. But looking at his most well-known quotes and his writing, he does not seem to be a very nice man. But he had a wife and seven children, and even some grandchildren.
It is claimed he is one of the most influential men in history, which is a sad commentary on people in general.
Today, while not the only source of inspiration for enemies of liberty, he is certainly the major one. Though people do not want to accept it, his ideas were powerful influences on a lot of people. Among those were Honest Abe Lincoln, Vladimir Lenin, and of course, Adolf Hitler. Directly or indirectly Mr. Marx is responsible for the premature deaths of tens of millions of people.
Can we summarize his philosophy? Individuals have no individual worth: they are simply part of a class, a group without power otherwise. And every person has their place: square pegs in round holes must be modified to fit. But if they do not, they must be trimmed and forced to fit. And if they seek to escape, there are harsher methods of dealing with them. “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need” as defined by the body politic – the people who (despite his words above) have all the guns.
His legacy is an evil one, and one we must (as lovers of liberty) constantly fight. And convince others that, no matter what his motives, his actions – even if mostly limited to writing – are evil.
It seems that the “white hope” of the 2024 presidential election (in many eyes) has chosen a running mate. This makes the election more problematic, and more of a mess.
Robert F Kennedy Jr. has chosen Nicole Shanahan, a California “criminal justice” activist and long-time (relatively – she looks pretty young) supporter of Democrats and regressive causes. This seems to contradict RFKJr’s claim to have divorced himself and his campaign from the Democratic Party. Especially since one of the objects of campaign donations as Uncle Joe himself. (Of course, that was four years ago: we bet that RFKJr donated some cash to Uncle Joe that year.)
Several people point out that perhaps he is just “polishing” his “progressive credentials” and even figuring he will therefore suck more votes from the current occupant of 1600 PA.
As any number of libertarian writers have pointed out today, the destruction of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore early this morning by a Hyundai-built, massive container ship destroyed not just a key (pun intended) icon of Maryland, but delivered a horrific blow to the economy of these States.
Bridges are important, economically, militarily, socially, and even politically.
A few months back, a railroad bridge north of Pueblo, Colorado collapsed onto I-25 blocking both roadways. It took months both to restore traffic on the freeway and to replace the bridge and allow the only rail line supplying fuel and raw materials to Portland cement plants, the steel plant, and other operations in Pueblo while adding millions in extra costs for everyone from daily commuters to significant retail, wholesale, and manufacturing businesses.
In World War Two, Allied plans to defeat Germany before the harsh winter of 1944-45 were defeated when the last of a series of bridges in the Netherlands could not be captured and held: it was indeed a bridge too far. I’ve been there in Arnham.
How many times have you heard the claim “our rights are ‘given’ to us by the Constitution”? Or “government gives us our rights”?
We were recently told by a pundit of some sort that anyone who believes that our rights come from God is an evil “Christian nationalist” – racist, homophobic, hating anyone who disagrees with them. These same people also reject the claim that we “naturally” have certain rights as humans. (For those who are unsure of or do not believe in the Creator God.)
Clearly, we here at The Price of Liberty disagree with these claims.
As did those men who formulated the US Constitution – and the earlier document on which it is based. (The Declaration of Independence, of course.) And indeed, based those documents on (among other things) the principles found in the Bible: both the Tanakh (Old Testament) and the New Testament.
Sharing some images and memes to cheer us all up. Here in the Black Hills, winter has returned for a few days, and we are trying to stay both free and warm!
How many Americans fall into this category? I think certainly more than the mystical 3%!
Still, we have to remember warnings from the past:
How silly and foolish? We’ve mentioned some of the nonsense in Colorado and there is always some crazy and foolish in California, but this sort of nonsense can spring up anywhere:
Shall we end this little quick discussion with an oldie but goodie? Coolidge was perhaps one of the better American presidents, but his blindness is depressing:
Let’s compare the FBI to…
