Homeless camps and other features of modern American life

Piles of trash. Piles of possessions, hard to distinguish from trash, including packs and sleeping bags and boxes of things. Stolen and abandoned shopping carts, some from long-closed businesses. The sickening stench of human feces and the sharp odor of urine. Wind- and abuse-shredded plastic tarps. Primitive fire-pits, sometimes with partially burned green limbs stripped from nearby trees.

A homeless encampment on the edge of a city – often a small city to boot. Places like Durango, Colorado. Or Rapid City, South Dakota. I’ve seen them. I’ve sometimes had to enter them on work or trying to help someone. They are sickening. Physically and morally.

And all too common in these Fifty States in this Year of our Lord 2022.

Medical and religious predators – a growing problem

As Ron Paul recently pointed out, our medical providers and religious “leaders” more and more treat others – including the specific people they supposedly serve and lead – as legitimate prey on which they can feed. In this, they join government leaders and employees. The people in government have demonstrated for thousands of years that other humans are their prey, and they survive by eating us. (And since the benefits that government provides are (a) ineffective, (b) can be provided in other ways, and (c) dubious at best, governments can be considered parasites. If you are willing to foolishly give them the benefit of the doubt.)

The same is true of the medical profession, if you look honestly at history. Remember that in the past, medical practice was virtually identical to religious practice. And not just in tribal societies, although most people are at least aware of the common idea in AmerInd societies of “medicine men” – spiritual leaders who also had the knowledge and ability to treat illness.

Indeed, this was the case in the times of the Old Testament. Because much of the Law of Moses detailed practices and prohibitions on matters that were not just spiritual but related directly to health, the priesthood in Israel and later Judah were also viewed as the medical providers. Israel was hardly alone in that: the same thing seems to be common in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia (Babylon, Assur and Nineveh, etc.). And in many other cultures.

Suspicious minds may note that medicine, like speaking to and for the gods (or even THE God) was an easier life than “tote that bale, lift that barge” and all the rest of work needed to produce tangible goods. There is a clear reason that the Hippocratic Oath and all the scriptures about being servants, not masters, were written long ago: these temptations seduce many.

But human society seems to be addicted to honoring, respecting, and even worshipping medical practitioners and clergy – the priests. Even when they know they are corrupt, self-serving actors. As a result, if not predators, many people following those professions were and are parasites. But the distinction between parasite and predator is sometimes hard to find.

Make no mistake. There are many good people who practice medicine – whether as now-traditional MDs or holistic or chiropractic or folk, nurses, midwives, nutritionists, therapists, dentists – and who do help and heal people. But there are always a few – and that number seems to be larger today – who go straight for the power, the wealth, and the prestige. Like politicians and cops and soldiers.

In the same way, there are many people who believe that they are good – and serving God – who are clergy, and there are some that can and do help people in many spiritual and mental (and even physical) ways. Not just through preaching and teaching and counseling but through benevolence. And yet, there are many who are out and out predators, as Dr. Paul points out. Again, like medical people, politicians, bureaucrats, and others.

Because people have to trust them somewhat, the predators use that trust and gain power and influence over those they are supposed to serve. (One reason that Christ Jesus did not create a clergy for the community (ecclesia, church) He built: there were servants but constant warnings against behaving like the Judaic priesthood or the Gentiles’ rulers.)

When coupled with a failure to teach basic essential morality and the idea that all men are created equal by God – and are not just a talking animal, it creates the dangers we have so commonly today. And to Dr. Paul’s warning about medical providers and religious leaders, we must add teachers to the list, whether government employees or not.

In all of these areas of life, there are similar solutions: personal responsibility, situational awareness, preparation for danger even from those we tend to trust, and other things that are essential to our God-given personal liberty.

For all of these predators and parasites, we may be sure. Whatever they claim to believe (and indeed may), whatever they tell us, the objective of stealing away our liberty (along with our wealth) is NOT to help us. It is for their convenience.

Republican garbage piled deeper and higher

Meanwhile, the garbage trucks keep rolling in, the illegal dumpers are not slowing down, and GOP landfill operators continue to pretend that they know what they are doing.

Enough of a metaphor? Read on. The 2022 election was the GOP’s to lose – and they did, big time. No matter what the talking heads say. Their congressional leadership? Not only do they need to retire from their leadership positions, they need to just plain retire. The only standard by which they are competent and sane and effective is to use the Democratic Party as a yardstick. Both of the old parties are pitiful, even given the real purpose of them to exercise a disgusting tyranny over Americans – and the world.

The election that doesn’t end?

The 2022 American elections were Tuesday, right? And now it is Friday, the 11th, and Veterans Day. And we still don’t know which of the old political parties (which wing of the Boot on your Neck (BOYN) Party) will control either house of Congress.

Which is why there are riots, violent protests, swarms of people seeking refuge in other countries, and the dollar is dropping to negative numbers against the Pound, Euro, Yen, and even the Ruble!

Opps, wrong timeline, folks. None of that has happened. Uncle Joe continues to spout nonsense (when he comes out of his basement, that is). And all the talking heads on radio and the internet continue to try and push various theories and ideas – those supportive of the GOP (or part of it) are trying to (a) excuse the poor performance and (b) explain how it really was a victory, even if not the Red Wave they were all proclaiming before hand.

Why should it take most of a week to have many elections settled? Backward, poor, rural, “red” States with oppressed elements of society – like South Dakota or Wyoming – seem to have had no problem getting election results out and confirmed very quickly. Yet the high tech and modern states, red, blue or purple, seem to be having problems. We have two or three senators undecided: Georgia, Nevada, and Arizona. We have perhaps two dozen house seats unresolved: Colorado is one we’re aware of. While the GOP claims they will retire Nancy as Speaker, that is not a given: 211 GOP and 199 Dems and 25 up in the air.

Why?

First responders

Bob Morse publishes a commentary called “Slow Facts” on WordPress, discussing various aspects of our right to keep and bear arms, and related topics.

The day before Election Day 2022, he wrote about a nurse who saved wounded police officers in a firefight:

“Who is the first responder for the first responders?

An off duty nurse was dropping off groceries at home when she saw two police officers shot in the line of duty. She pulled her car between the officers and their attacker. She applied emergency trauma care to a leg wound, and a wound in the neck and shoulder area. The attacker shot the hood of her car.

She stopped treatment after police and EMTs arrived and transported the wounded men to the hospital.

EMTs are taught to wait until police declare the scene safe. This nurse didn’t wait for permission. She simply saved lives in Newark, New Jersey.”

However we may view police, this was definitely a good deed on the part of the nurse, and demonstrated her courage, compassion, skill, and preparation.

Election results: a pox on both their houses

There is one clear loser across the Fifty States in yesterday’s election: liberty.

Both the Republicans and the Democrats have again shown that the “extremes” of their two parties seemingly have poisoned the political air even more in the past two years. That Americans are more divided than ever, and that propaganda is indeed king.

Get a good night’s sleep!

This 2022 election night is going to be a long one. (Aren’t they all?)

Keep in mind that staying up later and later to see who and what won will not change the results a single bit. Unless you have a really, REALLY big bet on something and just can’t wait, staying up late won’t do a bit of good. Even if you have big investments riding on the results of who stays and who gets in power, remember the stock markets will open at their usual times on Wednesday. (As will the betting parlors, for that matter.

In the meantime, breathe deeply, relax, and turn that silly boob tube (even if it is a flatscreen or a computer monitor) OFF! Find a good – NON-POLITICAL – book to read. Enjoy a nice dinner. Call it a night.

And enjoy some neat (or funny) items.

And

And this:

And this:

Til later!

A Baker’s Dozen ™ reasons tomorrow’s election will make little difference

But don’t let that get you down: Love liberty, love your family, love your nation, and love God.

We are hearing the hype a dozen times an hour on the talk shows, the news shows, and especially the wall to wall ads – print, internet, audio, visual, and more. This is the most important election yet of our lifetime – and maybe the life of the Republic. (Or our Democracy.)

Ignoring the history, here are thirteen reasons, a Baker’s Dozen ™ reasons that the election of 8 November 2022 is going to make little difference in the fate of the Fifty States – or the world as a whole.

Hey, he has free-speech rights, too!

Many people will agree that Sen. Dick Durbin, Demo of Illinois, is a royal piece of work. He demonstrated that again with his recent attack on the 1st Amendment and free speech. Demonstrated it so well that regressive news reporters (who call themselves progressives) and neo-liberals stood up and denounced him for it.

His claim that Twitter is filling up with hate speech now that Musk has “seized” the social media platform, and that the 1st Amendment does not protect “misinformation” was rebutted by dozens of people. Yet it clearly represents the views of the Democratic leadership and at least a plurality of Democratic voters. His own tweet is clear and unchallenged by other leaders of his party in Congress and the States: “Free speech does not include spreading misinformation to downplay political violence,” he claimed.

But I think we are all missing an important point!
