Can State legislatures be “reformed” or even “restored” to better ways?

From ideas by Ari Armstrong

Bad as the US Congress and the House of Commons in London, Ottawa, and Canberra are, many State and provincial legislatures are just as bad. We can argue that some (California and Ontario come to mind) are even worse.

Many people, with the best of intentions, run for state and provincial legislative seats. And win and go to Denver, or Regina, or Pierre, eager to make a difference.

And fail. They get sucked into the system – the “good ole boy” network. The politics-as-usual. The idea of compromising to get things done, of “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours.” But the major problem is the same reason that they run – idealistically and eager to “serve.” The belief that government is the best (if not only) way to solve problems.

We are still here! And the world isn’t ending yet!

Our apologies for a week-long absence, but we are still here and still going strong.

As is the planet. The wars and rumors of war meter have spiked the last week or so, but the big missiles aren’t flying, and the warmongers haven’t sucked us into yet another war.

And due to other work, we here at TPOL have had a chance to see that things aren’t totally collapsing in our part of the world. And we’ve learned from a lot of people scattered around the States and even from the Great White North and other places. What? That they are not in places that are falling apart around them. Often because of them and people like them: responsible, exercising their liberties despite the constant restrictions and battles, and with hope that they are making a better future for themselves and others.

Let me explain.

The price of liberty – the cost of freedom – 2022

As I write this on a holiday I am coming more and more to despise – “President’s Day” (bow down and worship!) – the wheels seem to be coming off.

Three weeks of the truckers’ Freedom Convoy in the Dominion of Canada have again severely wounded the Supply Chain here in North America, and therefore the world. Today (Wednesday, 23rd February 2022) will likely see another wound inflicted. Starting in Barstow, California, the US version of the Freedom Convoy will make the 3000-mile journey to that “wretched hive of scum and villainy” that is Washington, DC (District of Criminals – after all, can’t use “Columbia” since that guy was a racist, imperialist, colonialist perpetrator of genocide, right?)

These two events are hardly the first blows, and may not be the final, fatal blow that causes the collapse towards which governments have been pushing the world and especially the States for two years. Both economic and social collapse.

Political “science” and the loss of liberty

Working on a commentary about “silly science” and government, one of the staff here at The Price of Liberty made a crack about “political science” as being an example of silly science and an oxymoron.

So let us talk for a bit about political science. There are thousands of courses labelled “Political Science” in American and worldwide universities and high schools.

Wikipedia states: “Political science is the scientific study of politics. It is a social science dealing with systems of governance and power, and the analysis of political activities, political thought, political behavior, and associated constitutions and laws.”

Is this war? Biden again asleep at “helm”?

It’s been at least a dozen hours since Russia recognized the independence of two predominantly-Russian districts of Ukraine and ordered Russian troops to go in and carrying peacekeeping missions.

I think we’ve heard this before. No, not the Sudetenland, but far more recent than that: a dozen or so former French colonies in Africa in the past thirty years or so. And of course, the fracturing of the former Yugoslavia. And based on some of the photos I’ve seen, maybe even last weekend in Ottawa: those “insurrection” breakers look a lot like regular Canadian troops (with lots of UN “peacekeeping” experience, no doubt) that Ontario Provincial Police. Though the horsemen and ‘women trampling protesters both appear to be RCMP, and based on their bravado and boasting on social media, are.

But back to Ukraine.

Domestic terrorists driven off Parliament Hill, disrupt school board meeting in Virginia

The accusation of “domestic terrorist” has become as ubiquitous as the the screamed cries of “fascist” in today’s political world.

Listening in fear

In yesterday’s commentary, we here at TPOL answered Claire Wolf’s question from years ago, IS IT TIME YET TO START SHOOTING THEM?

OUR ANSWER IS YES. Clearly and only in self-defense (including defense of others as appropriate, it is time.

And that is, largely, what is driving the fear and the responses, especially recently, of various politicians and so-called leaders.

Clearly, some of them ARE listening. And responding. Even though their responses are almost certainly, too little, too late. They HOPE that enough people will be satisfied to continue to sit in the pot while the burner is on high.

Taking another look: Is it time yet? Freedom = I won’t

About a year ago, I asked the same questions:

  1. How can we, to quote Harry Browne, live free in an unfree world?
  2. Is it, to restate Claire Wolfe’s question, time to shoot them?

It is a long list. Here are a few of our troubles – or indicators of our troubles:

The red threat to our American north

With Trudeau’s alliance with banks and financial institutions – authorizing them to freeze and suspend bank accounts of SUSPECTS – we here at TPOL believe that the little weasel has crossed the line officially into Fascism. The financial institutions have been coopted, whether they like it or not, into Trudeau’s war against truckers, protesters, and their supporters and sympathizers.

A modification in the interests of truth? Or should it be the next one?
Wikipedia on CAS 29jun2009

“The government is issuing an order with immediate effect under the Emergencies Act, authorizing Canadian financial institutions to temporarily cease providing financial services where the institution suspects that an account is being used to further the illegal blockades and occupations,” Deputy Prime Minister Dictator Chrystia Freeland said. “This order covers both personal and corporate accounts.”
