Good morning, at least here in the Black Hills.  Around the world?  A bad weekend and a bad week.   Here is a brief look.

Islamic wars – Murder and more

Last week, stories have appeared that “christian” and Yazidi children are being thrown from mountaintops to keep them from rape, slavery, and torture by the jihadist “terrorists” of the Islamic State: the new Caliphate, as well as to keep them from starving or dying of thirst. I have not been able to confirm the truth of that, but HAVE seen significant substantiation of women and children being raped, made slaves, and executed (murdered) together with conscript soldiers and many people just for being of different sects of Islam.  The fact that Progressive, atheist France has opened its borders to christians fleeing from Mesopotamia is strong evidence of the horror faced by so many. I find it interesting that the mainstream media is emphasizing the plight of the Yazidi, but often ignoring the similar blight for hundreds of thousands of “christians.” But it isn’t just the media. Rustling, revolvers, and rational thinking

In the UK, Sheep and cattle rustling soars as rural thieves target livestock over
machinery, (as reported in Freedom News Daily from our friends at ISIL) while meat prices hit all time highs (at least in living memory) in the UK and US.

Mama’s Note: And, of course, no mention at all of the owners doing anything rational to defend their property – like being armed and ready to shoot if necessary. I’m not hearing a lot about either rustling or hay theft here (in Northeastern Wyoming) these days, but I’m sure it is still a problem.

Nathan: Remember, her majesty’s subjects are no long expected (or allowed) to behave like adults unless they take the queen’s shilling and wear a shiny badge, and even then, only when “on duty.” No longer may they do ANYTHING to protect themselves, their property, their families, or anything else as supposedly “free Englishmen” (or Scots, Irish, Welsh, or Manxmen). A century of war (Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-31D)

This commentary is intended, in part, and dedicated to remembering that 100 years ago, a war started that soon spanned the globe, and began a century of horrors, a century of war in which vast, uncountable numbers of people were killed, wounded, driven insane, made refugees, and beggared.  A war that destroyed much of the promise of Western Civilization, even as it allowed the West to temporarily dominate most of the world. Hamas, according to an Israeli analyst, has 3,000 “elite” soldiers ready to die in suicide attacks on Israel. No explanation as to why they have not yet done so, in order to reduce Israeli pressure on their civilian population (and military facilities) in Gaza. Continue reading →

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-30F: California and more trouble

Good morning, and hope you are having a GREAT weekend!

Have to start with a FUN story. According to Tranzi, the UN is contemplating not just forcing Detroit to provide water free to residents, but forcing people to migrate from California due to the severe drought, which is expanding. The UN says that too many people live in California.  The site reporting this thinks that would be a good thing – but living in areas which already have high rates of migration from the Left Coast, I can assure you that would be a disaster for the states where Californians flee, especially if it is into Palestinian-style refugee camps.  For years, I’ve seen Californians who consider themselves “libertarian” or “conservative” move to Colorado, Wyoming, even South Dakota, where their views and actions are those of dyed in the wool statists and lovers of government, taxes, and mandates.  YES, there are exceptions (like Mama Liberty), but she isn’t even a significant minority of these refugees from the “Golden State.”  Still, this is funny: California is flooded with refugees and border jumpers from everywhere, and the UN wants to start deporting them to ????
