Moderate Politicians and Compromise

Moderate, middle of the road, willing to compromise… all familiar words in the political world. But I wonder how many people truly think about that and take it to its logical conclusion.

How about this as an example:

A guy comes to you and demands your wallet. You refuse. He proposes a “compromise.” You only need to give him half of your stuff and you can keep the rest.  You going for that? Why not? He got half of what he wanted and you got half of what you wanted… so what’s to complain about? Isn’t that the political definition of compromise?

Sadly, that’s EXACTLY the sort of “compromise” the politicians make nearly every time they get together. Heads they win and tails we lose. And, incredibly, the same scam is pulled over and over again! Your “half” shrinks each time, and somehow it is packaged so that few people really notice – or blame the wrong people for the swindle when they do.

The “middle of the road” politician is just the personification of a political “compromise.”  It’s a fraud from the start, of course, but so few can see it for what it is. Just ask yourself what the real choices are… what is being compromised on and who gains from it? Isn’t the “compromise” pretty much always of benefit to parasites and a dead loss to the productive people? Why on earth would honest, hard working productive people continue to fall for that? How many centuries do they need to be robbed, murdered and tortured before they figure out that these cretins have no legitimate right or reason to dictate anything in an individual’s life?

A great many people seem to believe the lies that such theft and coercion is “necessary,” for reasons that range from compassion for the weak and poor, to “national defense.” But the lies are getting really thin these days as the economy nears melt down and another world war seems around the corner. Just maybe the good people of this country, this world, will wake this time and reclaim self ownership from the thieves and liars who pretend to “represent” them.

I have a compromise for you… you live your life as you see fit, and I’ll live mine.  You keep ALL your stuff and I’ll keep mine. You defend yourself and your family, community from thieves, murderers and scam artists, and so will I.

We both win 100%. Then there is nothing to prevent either of us, or both of us, from helping a neighbor, building a road, providing for mutual defense or anything else if we wish to do so.

America Suffers Worst Airpower Loss Since Vietnam

America Suffers Worst Airpower Loss Since Vietnam.

(Freedom Outpost)  This article relates what the Mainstream Media left out of their version of the news this week:  the attack on Camp Barber by Taliban forces last week was indeed the single biggest blow to US aviation assets since the Tet Offensive in 1968, and the worst damage that VMA-211 has suffered at enemy hands since their 13-day defense of Wake Island in 1941.

The media clearly does NOT want something like this to crop up during the last sixty days of the election campaign, but obviously the GOP does not either, or it would have been mentioned by the presidential and vice-presidential candidates and various news sources.  Why?  Because it isn’t “playing the game,” I guess.

But the hidden elements of the story are most important.  The Taliban were wearing US Army combat uniforms: the article says BDUs but probably were wearing either ACU or some other digi-cam version, with combat vests converted to suicide bomb vests.  After one Taliban killed himself to blow a hole in the fence, it took RAF security forces “just twelve minutes” to react.  People, that is an INSANELY long amount of time to react to an attack of this nature, as three five-man sapper teams swarmed into the base – and the RAF first response was NOT a ground combat team but a UAV!!!  And it was followed by an Apache.  Supposedly, it took FIVE stinking hours to secure the base from a FIFTEEN-man attack, and more than 10,000 rounds were fired by the Brits?  One of the two US casualties (the story didn’t report on RAF casualties, and fourteen of the fifteen Taliban were killed, the last wounded) was the squadron commander, a Marine LTC.

People worried about the US military forces being used to deal with civil unrest need NOT worry, if this is the kind of capabilities we are left with.  If this is the security we have for a tactical airfield in a combat zone, you have to wonder if the Taliban didn’t just steal the uniforms from a Stateside post’s Military Clothing Sales store – not buy, but just shoplift!

Libertarian News & Commentary #12-40B: This and That

All of the stories in this post are from CNSNews.com unless otherwise referenced!

World Wars: East Asian Front
Panetta Warns of War Between China and Japan Over Disputed Islands

Apparently the media took him up on this, since reports later in the weak claimed that Japan and China were “at war” – but in reality, so far all the aggression is on the part of China and consists of mobs of proletarians whipped up by their Communist “leaders of the proletariat” to go wreck and burn Japanese-owned businesses and factories and put their own people out of work – and kill some of them to boot.  And to go further, some of the mobs are pushing to get China to “retake” Okinawa, as well.  How does that work?  Weak as Japan may be, I suspect it and its allies (namely, Korea and Taiwan) would be able to hold off any Chinese attempt, and the last thing China wants right this minute is to put the US into a bad situation where the turkeys in DC have to do something dramatic.

Islamic wars: Afghan front
Joint Chiefs Chairman on Insider Attacks in Afghanistan: ‘You Can’t Whitewash It’

Sure you can. We are doing it every day.  Six dead this weekend alone, and I haven’t heard a single Pentagon or Administration official (or even a Congressman) call for again making Afghanistan an enemy and not an “ally.”

The “messiah,” Freedom hater
Obama: ‘We Stand for Religious Freedom’
For whom?  Certainly for Muslims – especially the extreme ones.  Humanists, Evolutionists, Gaia-worshippers and other Environists and Global-warmers, and let us not forget Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Jeremiah Wright segregationist-socialist-“christians.”  But for everyone?  Let’s have a good laugh!

Stupid government tricks – Government-run, tax-funded schools:
It’s Up to Schools to Teach ‘Respect and Compassion,’ Justice Official Says
Yeah, right.  The only thing that government-ruined, theft-funded schools should teach is the evils of government.  And actually, they do that almost every day: a regimented “society” in which the power of the keepers is near absolute and yet strangely limited, in which bullies are protected and those who defend themselves condemned, in which black is white and white is black.  Respect and compassion are taught at home and in church, and on the streets.

The “messiah’s” consort
Michelle Obama: ‘No One Gets Where They Are on Their Own’

Of course not.  We are all in this mess because we allowed government to cozen us and lead us on the primrose path, and because too many of us did not want to think for ourselves.  I’d ask how stupid does she think we are, but I fear I know the answer: we are pretty stupid, or she’d never have the mailing address that she does.

Politics 2012
Ryan on Re-Electing Obama: ‘If We Renew the Contract…He’ll Never Answer to You Again’

Nice way of putting it, I must admit.  But then the man hasn’t answered to us in three and a half years, so why bother to start NOW?  It fascinates me to see people condemn the government for doing this or that, and then talk about voting to reelect the man…

Politics 2012
Santorum: Obama Talks With U.S. Enemies, Ignores U.S. Allies

Well, doesn’t the old saying go, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer?”  Of course, who IS our enemies?  Afghanistan?  Iraq?  Egypt?  “New” Libya? Yemen? “Palestine?”  Look, the emperor has no clothes!

Politics 2012
Election Is A Choice Between ‘What’s Right and What’s Wrong,’ Says Ariz. Gov. Brewer

Seems to me like most of the choices on the ballot are WRONG, and not much sign of right anywhere.

Gov. McDonnell: Virginia Would Be Better Off Without Obama Policies
No argument here, governor.  Now, if you would just get your state to DO something about it.

Abominable Act (ObummerCare) – Government war on religion
Evangelical Christian Family Sues HHS to Protect Their Business from Sterilization-Contraception-Abortifacient Mandate
Nice try.  It is a big company, too: Hobby Lobby.  Of course, next government will REQUIRE evil outfits like this and Chick-fil-A to be open on Sundays because otherwise they are discriminating against Jews and Muslims and those people that believe that a week should be ten days long.  More here:

The Examiner reports,
Hobby Lobby Stores Inc., a Christian-oriented hobby and craft store, filed a federal lawsuit on Wednesday. The company is challenging a mandate in the nation’s healthcare law, dubbed “Obamacare”, that would require the Christian company to pay for the morning-after pill. The hobby and craft chain, based out of Oklahoma City, claims in the lawsuit that the government mandate is forcing them to “to violate their deeply held religious beliefs under threat of heavy fines, penalties and lawsuits”. If Hobby Lobby stores do not provide the drugs in their company health insurance plans, they could be fined up to $1.3 million a day. Hobby Lobby is self-insured. The company will be forced to comply with the mandate by Jan. 1, which is the start of its insurance year.

The arrogance and abusive attitude of the Congress in even passing this, and refusing to repeal it, and of the Administration in enforcing this (while ignoring so many OTHER laws) deserves rebellion: the courts are worthless.

Culture wars: killing babies
Rand Paul: ‘I Will Always Take a Stand for Life’

Which, of course, in the eyes of many makes him LESS a “Libertarian.”

Politics 2012
Mitt Romney, caught on video tape
(Washington Post)“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax… my job is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives…. The president has been a disappointment. He told you he’d keep unemployment below 8 percent. Hasn’t been below eight percent since. Fifty percent of kids coming out of school can’t get a job. Fifty percent.”

Okay, I get it: the WaPo (and the rest of the Tranzi Mainstream Press) think that this is below the belt and evil things to be saying.  I think he is just stating obvious facts.  Yes, folks, I KNOW that it is a generalization.  I know that there are a lot of people who take the “messiah’s” shilling (especially military: Active, Reserve/Guard, and Retired) and will NOT vote for the “messiah,” and that there ARE some really misguided self-made millionaires and successful business owners that will vote for the “messiah” instead of for Johnson.  But overall, as we were warned centuries ago, when people can vote themselves largess from other people’s pockets, they will do so.  And when “victims” can get money for being victims, well… you get the point.  Of course (as usual) the GOP reacts badly to this criticism by the WaPo and all, and backs water: cowards because they do not have enough convictions to be courageous about.

Welfare state
8,786,049: Yet Another Record for Americans Collecting Disability |
(CNSNews.com) Thanks to Darryl for this one. Sometimes people ARE really disabled: physically or mentally, and they or their family has paid into a system where money has been invested to pay out for this sad circumstance.  And 9 million (1%) of us 300 million isn’t THAT high a percentage.  BUT…  When someone is drawing SSI and their primary “disability” seems that they get the screaming jeebees anytime someone expects them to do some work, or when their disability consists of being unable to run the mile in less than 20 minutes, there is something broken.  I meet – nearly daily – people who get a disability check from the SSA or VA for (a) something they did to themselves, like ruin a liver from drinking or a lung from smoking, (b) didn’t put ANYTHING aside because ‘the government will take care of me,’ and/or (c) have a real disability but not one that would keep them from being a productive member of society instead of a parasite.  There are MILLIONS of people who COULD be on the disability rolls for legitimate reasons but are NOT – instead continuing to work to support themselves and their families (and the parasites).  Like the guy in the next story.

Disabled Homeowner Shoots and Kills Female Burglar

(Guns.com) An Oklahoma gun owner shot and killed an intruder who broke into his home last Thursday. Yeah, yeah, we know – you’ve heard this story and stories just like it a thousand times before. This one’s a little bit different though, because this time the would-be thief was a woman. The burglar in question was 50-year-old Mary Kathleen Sanders, but she also brought along two accomplices, 26-year-old Misty Dawn Puskaric and 37-year-old Starr Michelle Timmons. According to reports, Sanders had previously worked for the homeowner and therefore knew that he was disabled.

Mama Liberty commented: Interesting questions.

Nathan’s thoughts:  Killing a woman, even caught in the act of committing a crime, is still frowned upon for good reason.  But the female of the species CAN be and IS more deadly than the male in many circumstances, especially when they go bad.  And in the case of someone with limited ability to defend themselves EXCEPT with a deadly weapon, God’s law does not distinguish between male and female evildoers. As the next story reminds us.

Islamic war: Afghan front
Female Suicide Attacker Kills 12 in Afghanistan As NATO Scales Back Cooperation
(CNSNews.com) A woman can certainly be as patriotic or as religiously zealous as a man, but long experience indicates that many of the women who sacrifice themselves to Allah in this way are not exactly volunteer.  Of course, no martyr is truly voluntary, but this woman is a killer:  she wasn’t killing foreign invaders or occupiers or Quislings, she killed airport workers on their way to work.

Obama Touts Bailout After Reports Administration Rejected GM Offer to Cut Government Ties

(CNSNews.com) When better?  When you’ve got them tied in knots and on the torture table – and they in essence voluntarily put themselves in your power – THEN you can be proud about how you own them, body and soul. As usual, the man lies so well!  But then, so does the other member of his family:

(CNSNews.com) Oh, he WILL, will he?  All by his little lonesome?  Didn’t he mean to say “we – the collective – will rebuild some of these bridges?”  Maybe?

Tranzi tricks – Congress in action
Sen. Kerry Introduces Bill to Protect Americans from Bengal Tigers

(CNSNews.com) Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) on Monday introduced the “Big Cats and Public Safety Protection Act,” a bill that would prohibit private possession and breeding of tigers and other “big cats.”

It is, according to Kerry, all about protecting the cops (and the children) and so the FedGov (in a bipartisan move) will attempt to outlaw ownership of big cats:  I wonder just how far down the weight/length scale this goes?  Safety is the excuse for intolerable tyranny, just as it has always been, and another 20,000 Americans will instantly become criminals.

East Asian Front
Fresh anti-Japan protests erupt in China, US for restraint
(Zee News [India]) “On a day which marks the anniversary of Japanese occupation of parts of mainland China in 1931, thousands waving Chinese flags and chanting anti-Japan slogans gathered outside the Japanese mission [in Beijing], some throwing eggs and plastic bottles at the heavily guarded building. Both the Asian nations are fighting over the uninhabited group of islands in the East China Sea — called Diaoyu by China and Senkaku by Japan.” (09/18/12)

The story is wrong: there is no “fighting” – arguing and such, but so far the only fighting has been assaults by Chinese mobs on Japanese-owned (or affiliated) businesses (including factories) resulting in arson, injuries, damage, closing many and causing workers to lose work and flee.

Theft by government
The High Cost of College: An Economic Explanation

(The American) First degree price discrimination occurs when producers learn what each customer is willing and able to pay, thus allowing producers to set individual prices, thereby eliminating competition…

This, coupled with the government subsidies which totally skew the marketplace, have created the “education bubble” which is due to burst any year now.  While at the same time, and for much the same reason, making a college degree more and more worthless to the holder and their employers (if any).

Crash of 2009 – Home front
How Poor is “Poor”?

(National Review online) More than 46 million Americans, or 15 percent of the population, were considered poor in 2011, an increase of 9.8 million people from 2006…

The story goes on correctly to explain that “poor” in the US is MUCH different than poor (or even lower middle class) in about 80% of the world.  It is a good thing to keep in mind, as we look at the rapidly approaching collapse (and prepare for it).

Islamic wars: the “Movie Protests”

I have quite a bit from this weekend on this rather curious phenomenon which has now killed at least five people, and probably many more directly and indirectly.

Middle East Protestor Dies From Smoke of Burning US Flag
Ultimatum To US – Criminalize Blasphemy or Lose Consulate

Story: Apparently a Pakistani man participating in the 10,000-person protest in Lahore, Pakistan on Sunday grew ill after breathing the smoke from an American flag and was taken to hospital where he died.

Nathan’s comments: Those DASTARDLY Americans: ANY way to kill brown people and they will do it! It is obvious that the American flag is toxic and must be banned worldwide, especially in classrooms and other confined spaces. What is more:

Story: Hafiz Saeed alleged that the film, Innocence of Muslims, had been produced with the backing of US establishment. He said the director, the producer and all those involved in the production and release of the movie must be hanged publicly. “The US must make a law against blasphemy – or we will not let the US consulates in Pakistan function,” he said.
He said a resolution condemning the movie in the parliament was not enough. Instead, President Asif Ali Zardari must announce jihad against countries like the US that supported attacks on Islam. The Organisation of Islamic Countries Conference should announce a boycott of US goods. Ijazul Haq, the PML-Z chief, said the people had shown their loyalty to Islam.

Nathan:  Remember, this is in Pakistan, not exactly a bastion of free speech: this is a convenient way for the anti-West faction in the government to make their wishes known. Let us look briefly at their claims and demands:
(1) The US government (“establishment”) backed the production and distribution of this C-Movie. Right. More on that below.
(2) All involved in the production and release of the movie must be hanged publicly. That involves, at a minimum, several hundred Americans (or at least people with green-cards and maybe a few border jumpers) – do they realize the environmental impact of building all those gallows and growing all that hemp? Or maybe they figure we’d just use lamp posts and copper wire?
(3) The US must make a law against blasphemy. You’d think they were registered lobbyists – and I say, YES, make them register and pay fees for lobbying Congress, and see how they like the results. After what American politicians have been doing to the definition of marriage, I can scarcely guess what the definition of blasphemy might be. But it being an election year, I bet it has something to do with burning American flags…
(4) The Paki president must declare jihad against the US and other countries that support attacks on Islam. Ignoring the fact that the US has not attacked Islam (Stephen Lendman to the contrary) but instead has all but embraced Islam, what happened to this business about “jihad refers to an internal spiritual struggle in Muslims” bit that everyone keeps spouting? If the Paki president wants to declare war on the US, how is he expecting to collect all those tolls on NATO trucks going to and from Afghanistan, which seem to be a major foundation of the Pakistani economy these days? And you just KNOW that there are people slavering over the opportunity to use a few US nukes before they all reach their expiration date on an actual real live nuclear-armed target like Pakistan. And if a few Seals can get Osama’s dead body OUT of Pakistan you want to bet getting a few nukes INTO the country is that hard?
(5) The OIC must announce a boycott of US goods. (Notice, “announce” and not “enact.”) But assuming they really did boycott US goods, where oh where are they going to get all their porn and bourbon and corn and tobacco and cool weapons? Just how much are they going to be able to buy if they only get yuan or yen or rubles or Euros for their oil?

A comment from “Freedom Guy” on ZeroHedge.com about the spreading protests through the Ummah against the United States for that hokey anti-Mohammad movie caught me eye, like a diamond floating in a cesspool:

“I think it is interesting in that these protesters indirectly tell you a lot about themselves. If you saw an offensive (pick any offense) made in India, Europe or a free country would you immediately associate it with their government? We would not. I would not protest the Indian embassy if something offensive to Christianity was filmed in India. Maplethorpe did overtly purposely offensive Christian art and nothing got burnt down. Hell, we could not even stop his government funding.
“My point is these people think in terms of authoritarian government. They assume that everything in a country is controlled and approved by the government because that is the way they operate. I think it is inculcated deeply in their culture and it comes through their religion. They have a religion based on conquest and submission and merging of government and religion. The only type of government acceptable to them is a theocracy of some sort. It raises an interesting question of whether or not they can do some form of pluralistic government as we in the West understand it. I tend to think not. In a direct democracy how many think they would immediately vote to eliminate all the Jews, Christians and other minority religions in their countries? I think they would.
“I would guess it is nearly impossible to move forward on any kind of social or even technological progress. It raises real questions of whom we would support for government and even what trade relations we would want to have. I personally have recently changed my mind on what I think of dictators in the Middle East. I viscerally hate dictators everywhere. H***, I hate bureaucrats who rule all western nations. However, only dictators seem to keep any form of peace in these countries.”
Nathan: This is a very valid point. It is also an answer to those who want to know why countries like Mexico or Brazil who also “have freedom” are not hated by the Islamic World (the Ummah). (Though I do not agree that either Mexico or Brazil have the kind of liberty that Americans enjoyed for several centuries, and still do to a large degree.) It is because neither Brazil nor Mexico, or even countries like El Salvador or Costa Rica or Switzerland or Norway, have the enormous global presence, economic power, or military power that the United States have “enjoyed” for the past seventy years. It is also because (a) American philosophy and the basis of American society (not government) is so fundamentally opposed to the basis of Islamic society (a fact recognized since about 1803) and (b) most of the rest of the nations and societies which were based on something similar to that of America are no longer a serious threat: not the Brits, not the Canadians, not the Australians. They have all in essence surrendered their future to an accommodation with the Ummah, in large part because their secularization is so complete: they have no faith left with which to counter the fanaticism of Islam.  As the next story on this same topic relates:

Leading Sunni Clerics Demand Global Ban on Insults to Islam

(CNSNews.com) A global ban?  Those don’t seem to work out too good, do they?  Supposedly we have global bans on nuclear proliferation, but more and more people are getting them.  We have a global ban on land mines, yet everyone seems to be making them and using them.  Funny, isn’t it?  No other religion is harmed by being insulted, and I’ve never heard of any serious effort to make it illegal to “insult” or even viciously attack any type of Judaism or Christianity (at least not since the Reformation).  I guess that when you have a really flimsy excuse for a religion, made up in an unsuccessful attempt to get your people (the Arabs) to stop fighting and stealing from and killing each other (by doing those things to everyone else) and a rather more successful attempt to justify your own perversions and lust for power, you have to keep people from attacking it lest it crumble like the pack of cards it is.

Welcome to the NEW Price of Liberty

All good things must come to an end, of course, and the old web site is no exception. The software was badly out of date, and the archives had grown to an astonishing 500 MB, which exceeded the limits of my account. I hope you will agree that the blog is a reasonable answer and forgive me for not making all of the old archives available. Something just had to give, and that was it.

Many of the features will continue, including Nathan Barton’s Libertarian Commentary on the News, but probably in a somewhat different format. Your feedback is important, so please help us to configure this new blog to make it interesting and useful to you, our readers.

I’ll be writing a lot more now, covering a greater variety of topics. Again, your feedback is essential. I want to encourage meaningful and thoughtful discussion, sharing ideas and solutions as much as possible. Arguments, hateful comments and personal attacks will not be tolerated, of course. I reserve the right to monitor comments and delete any that do not meet my standards for respectful discussion.
