Race to the bottom – American tyranny

As we enter the last quarter of Calendar Year 2021 and the Fiscal New Year of the FedGov (2022), we need to consider some of these things.

Readers and friends know that I am very much an enemy of democracy. If I were a swearing man (I’m not, for scriptural reasons), I’d be a sworn enemy.

I was taught as a childish student (by my father and mother and other teachers) and as a cadet by officers, and as an officer by officers and NCOs, that democracy is an evil decay product of a failing social system.

Oligarchies and aristocracies are replaced by republics through various means. But all too commonly, throughout history, republics have forgotten limits and restraint, and have been transformed (almost always willingly) into democracies, where majorities of humans rule with no real restraints as time goes on. And those democracies seem almost always to become rule by the mob (whether it is the street mob or a self-appointing elite) and deteriorate in tyranny. And all too often the following stage is a nihilistic and chaotic anarchy. Not the anarchy of self-governing men and women, but the chaos of warlords and outlaws and predators preying upon everyone and everything. One form of the tyranny is today called fascism or corporatism, in which government and business (and other institutions, such as academia and medical and media) conspire and cooperate and crush liberty. We know it has and is happening.

Were Lee, Jackson, and Wheeler traitors?

In the last commentary (HERE) I ran out of words to explain my claim that Southern officers and enlisted personnel (and their leaders and civilians) were NOT traitors to the United States.

So here is the next commentary:

WHY do I say that (most of) the officers and enlisted members of the Confederate States Army and the Confederate States Navy and Confederate States Marine Corps were NOT traitors?

Military threats to the Fifty States: A subverted military

The seemingly treasonous actions of which General Milley is accused, in the waning days of the Trump administration, make me ponder the current state of threat to the Fifty States:

  • The US Constitution
  • The federal government
  • The Fifty State governments
  • The people and our remaining liberties and freedoms

Recently we discussed the threat that nuclear attack poses to the fifty united nations we call the American Union: the Fifty States. While there are a good many other overt threats (we’ll come to them soon enough), let us talk about one that is not so obvious.

Do crime stats show the value of increased gun ownership?

As Uncle Joe and all his supporters and managers scream more and more about violent crime, lets step back and look for a moment.

Back in September of 2020, a year ago, the FBI’s annual report confirmed what the Washington Examiner and even USA Today had verified earlier in the year: even as gun sales SOARED in the midst of the Pandemic Panic, crime rates have been dropping for decades in the US – and especially in the last few years. That report included data through 2019, but other sources showed that crime had dropped in the first months of the COVID-19 crisis.

In a few days, the FBI is scheduled to release 2020 data on crime. We already know (based on the assumption that the NICS data accurately shows gun purchases) data on gun sales right up through last month. (See the table from 1998 to August 2021 here.) In 2020, gun sales skyrocketed from just over 28 million in 2019 to just under 40 million. And already, we are just a half-million guns short of total sales in 2019, and monthly purchases of guns in 2021 were well over 2020 sales until just the last two months.

Fighting against liberty – the 2020s foremost activity

Call it what you will – it is clear that much of public discourse in 2021 consists of direct attacks on people’s liberty. That is, your liberty and my liberty. The news is daily filled with yet another example of how someone is attacked on various grounds for something that “someone” does not like. Even claimed that it is “society” that finds these words, actions, or mere existence to be wrong. Worthy of assault and “cancellation.”

Although I suspect it is in reality a small minority. And that most people are still willing to live and let live: to defend themselves and even attack others only when they and their families and communities are directly threatened. But that small minority appears to include those in power – political, financial, social. And they are VERY vocal.

Some examples, from various people and places:

  • People are fired more and more for expressing their opinion or using the “wrong words” – stating or even implying their agreement with some politically-incorrect idea. (Or even failing to sufficiently denounce that idea.)
  • Because of the above, workers are being intimidated into suppressing their thoughts and words about ANY subject, for fear that such will suddenly (even months or years later) be made “socially unacceptable” and they will lose their jobs.
  • Even outside the workplace, anyone who might dissent from the current “social party line” is subject to group attacks. Not physical attacks (for the most part) but attacks on social and old media that tear down their reputation and encourage the “public” to insult, deny, and punish them for something they say (or don’t say).
  • Open and overt racism based on a person’s skin color. (Although it is claimed that “racism” is not possible for anyone who is not “privileged” by their race or ancestry. I don’t know what it is when someone who is “woke” is exhibiting all the indications of racism against their own race.)
  • More and more open denial of basic science, especially biology. No, I am NOT writing about denying theories of science or hypotheses. I mean denial of basic FACTS, such as genetic programming of our DNA and anatomy. Examples? The “existence” of more than two sexes for 99.999% of the human population (XX and XY). The claim that someone who has XY chromosomes can be “female.” The claim that people are responsible for their ancestors’ (often distant ancestors’) acts and attitudes.
  • More and more perversion of the English (and other) languages. Redefinition of words on a constant basis. We all recall 1984 and Brave New World, but today this is on a scale that beggars the imagination even of those two writers. Immediately followed by various forms of enforcement against anyone who dares to use the old definitions.
  • The assumption of totally-evil (well, absolutely politically-incorrect; is there a difference today) motives for someone saying, writing, or doing ANYthing which is contrary to the current popular ideas regarding beliefs, practices, or opinions.
  • Worse, the fear (or supposed fear) of the administrators, public boards, corporate boards, managers, and others in positions of authority is so thick that you can slice it. ANY protest, ANY complaint, ANY challenge by the woke left, the social-justice warriors, and their ilk is a reason (or excuse) to destroy people’s liberty. Is this truly a fear of being “cancelled” or an excuse to do what they want to take away liberty – and thus destroy our culture and society?

We could cite hundreds, even thousands, of examples, but here are just a few:

  • The University of Texas at San Antonio, a mega-university with more than 30,000 students banned the use of flags with the slogan “Come and Take It” (featuring a football, NOT a rifle or cannon). As reported in the Texas Tribune, the school got a petition with about 900 people complaining that the mere words are racist, bigoted, white-supremacy, and considered a threat to anyone in a large number of groups. True, in one way, a college banning certain flags from football games and campus is no big deal. But in so many ways it is a harbinger of future attacks on individual liberty: not just self-expression but more.
  • The State of Wyoming is being “cancelled” by Yahoo News AND Insider concerning the disappearance of some “YouTube” star last seen in Moab, Utha, claiming that 710 “indigenous women – mostly girls” (AmerInd) have disappeared in Wyoming in a ten-year period from 2011-2020. (Supposedly her body was found near Jackson, Wyoming, over the weekend.) I find the report making this claim to be very suspicious: Wyoming only has 600,000 people – and supposedly more than 1/10 percent have disappeared? And Wyoming (2019 data) only has about 14,000 AmerInd – mostly members of the Northern Arapahoe and Eastern Shoshone Nations. And supposedly FIVE percent of those people disappeared? Besides that, the young woman who disappeared from Moab does not seem to be an AmerInd woman. Of course, Wyoming is a eeevvilll State – it supported Trump (although it has the Never-Trumper Cheney in office for now), had a couple of people decades ago that killed a homosexual, and mines coal. What better State to attack and steal away its liberty?

Liberty is under attack, and I hasten to point out that it is NOT just from the woke social justice warriors and so-called progressive left. The conservatives (neo-con AND other) and even the so-called anarchists are pushing against our personal liberty constantly.

We must fight to preserve what we have left and regain what we have lost.

“Public” (government-run, tax-funded) schools continue to fail

In our eyes, that is, the eyes of lovers of knowledge, of liberty, and of personal responsibility, peace, and prosperity.

BUT…

In the minds of the enemies of liberty – the educrats, the academic elite, the self-proclaimed “progressives,” the regressivists, the powers-that-be? The schools are doing just what they want them to. Making good little “citizens” (helots is a better word, or just plain salves) out of children. Divorcing them mentally, socially, and morally from their parents and families. Teaching them the minimum to (a) help determine whom to anoint to join the “elite” and (b) function as an economic unit in the command economy also capable of being manipulated to pull the right lever in the voting booth.

The Twenty Years War – lessons NOT learned

Look at the map.

How Big Is Texas, Compared to Other Land Masses? – Texas Monthly

Now, Texas is a lot flatter than Afghanistan, but historically, the inhabitants of Texas – whether Tonkawa or Numu (Comanche) or Spanish or Mexican or Texian/Texican or Anglo – are just as ornery and prone to violence as any Afghani tribesman. Or city-dweller. Or Talibani or Communist or Libertarian. (Yes, there ARE Afghanis who love liberty in a way that American libertarians – or at least anarcho-capitalists) can agree with.)

The sub-rosa war on our liberties continues

  • The latest battles – in schools, businesses, courts, media, and government chambers – against basic liberties triggered by the continuing Pandemic Panic. But I repeat myself: regardless of the tactics, the target is ALWAYS our freedoms.
  • As normal, the news are filled with the latest battles against basic human liberties triggered by the now 20-month-long Pandemic Panic.

Look almost everywhere – schools, businesses, courts, media, government chambers, and the streets and sidewalks of American cities and towns. You will see that our liberties, our freedoms, are a constant target for attack.

    Answering misconceptions: American militia

The hoplophobes and hoploclasts are always with us.  Consider this comment recently posted online.

“There are no militias in the United States. They were all absorbed into the National Guard in 1906. You and your vigilantes, operating outside the authority of your State Governments, are not the militia. Even the militias at Lexington and Concord existed and operating under the direct command and control of their provincial government (the Massachusetts Provincial Congress, John Hancock presiding). You guys don’t have any of that, do you.”

In the interests of answering challenges like this, consider this response to one of the points the poster brought up.

Looking back – 20 years and a lifetime

Ben Franklin’s quote from either 1755 or 1774 once again is proven a valid prophesy:

‘They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.’

    Tuesday, Bloody Tuesday. 2001.

Today, we look back twenty years. But perhaps it is time to look forward.

The coincidental name commonly used of “9-11” quickly became common in the aftermath of one of the highest-casualty, costly attacks on American soil in history. Mama Liberty and I have generally (from that day, in fact) referred to it as “Bloody Tuesday.”
