It is traditional in many States to have the laws passed by the last legislative session take effect on the 1st of July. This theoretically gives the bureaucrats and the cops time to adjust their procedures and gear up for enforcement, and the victims of those laws time to be informed, warned, and prepared. Ah, the joys of democracy and the process of law. Unlike the dread decrees (“executive orders”) which can be signed without any “democratic” process of law and take effect instantly. But people still grumble, don’t they?
A fellow lover of liberty recently wrote in response to an activist in Colorado, who said: “It’s the radical influence of wealth and power that stifles our democracy from enacting laws aligned with majority will.” He was complaining that some unWoke, politically-incorrect measure made it through Colorado’s General Assembly, despite overwhelming Democratic Party control and polls claiming majority support among the Colorado population.
The libertarian wrote: “This is the “No True Scotsman” version of democratic theory. Any democratic outcome that you like is a straightforward and proper implementation of “majority will,” whereas any democratic outcome that you don’t like is “not true democracy” because the process was somehow tainted, say by people paying lobbyists. This presumption allows some people at the same time to hold that majority will is inherently good but that specific majoritarian outcomes can be bad.
“The” alternate view, my view, is that democratic outcomes are neither inherently good nor bad. Rather, they are good or bad depending on whether they conform to underlying moral truths.”
While I do respect and appreciate the writer who upholds liberty, I do not fully agree with him.
I know it has been nearly a week, but Connor shared this with us, and we here at TPOL figure it deserves a small, quick, special commentary.
There is a lot about this posting that turns the stomach of everyone here at TPOL.
First, there are the smiling faces of the two jackbooted XX-chromosome-bearing thugs (we assume that they are not even more perverted and are not pretend XX-types).
Then there are the 3,465 “likes” which amounts to 2-3% of the population of Sewer Falls (about 130,000). Seriously?
Then there is the snide comment (by the SFPD). “It’s not worth the $107.50 citation.” Just what is “not worth” it? The liberty, the independence that these States once gained from tyranny – and have now mostly given up? Creepy and overbearing, at best.
But the real point is that “law and order” and the jackboots have repressed and outlawed the independence, the liberty, that cost a whole lot more than a hundred and seven (and a half) devalued FRNs (Federal Reserve Notes). Costs like our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor, anyone? Or at least the men and women of the original Thirteen States.
Third, there is the name of the event: “4th of July” on the ticket. The Sewer Falls police do not seem to like such things as independence, liberty, freedom, or personal responsibility. Heaven forbid daring to celebrate on your own without having “professional” and government-approved “experts” setting off the fireworks. (I assume, perhaps wrongly, that these two thugs are capable of actually spelling “Independence Day” and they hunt and peck on their cop-car computer.)
About the same time these cop-ettes were busting some poor guy or gal (or even a kid) for “illegal fireworks” our family was in Rapid Valley, also in South Dakota and on the edge of the Black Hills. In the middle of what sounded (and to some degree looked like) a 360-degree war zone from the massive amount of munitions which at least every third house in multiple subdivisions with several thousand houses was busy firing off.
Yeah, there were cops in Rapid Valley, too: Sheriff’s Deputies (Rapid Valley is unincorporated in Pennington County). And firefighters, from the Rapid Valley Fire Protection District. Not writing up tickets but waving to folks and complimenting them on their fireworks, and thanking them for having water readily available and cleaning up the streets, and letting the traffic go through.
And I’ve seen and heard nothing about any houses – or even trash cans – catching fire. Or any significant injuries. Just a lot of pyromaniacs and other folks (with a strong military percentage: Air Force, National Guard, Reserve, and Retired) celebrating the memory, if nothing else, of Independence!
Why? Because they are free people,. and the cops and firefighters work for them: their bosses (the Sheriff and the Fire Board) are elected by the people and recognize that their power is limited to what people will accept, not some elected dictators in a commission or council or legislature. And because most of the people of Rapid Valley (and those of us who were guests) are responsible people who know how to use their freedoms responsibly.
One final comment from us here at TPOL. These two thug-ettes say that it is exhausting to “be the bad guys.” Good. At least they admit they are “bad guys” – though we here at TPOL are a bit harsher: thugs and scum of the worst sort. But they need to remember, along with the rest of their black-tunicked comrades, that Independence Day celebrates the 8-year effort to kick another set of jackbooted thugs across the ocean.
Isn’t it time we do the same to these? No matter how sweet they look?

But we should add that Sewer Falls is the nickname many of us Libertarians and West River denizens have given to the autocratic government and submissive occupants of Sioux Falls, SD. It is on the opposite end of the State from the Black Hills, and we just wish it were further! More than once, we have circulated mostly facetiously, petitions to get the State to expel them (or outright sell them) to Minnesota or Iowa, where their regressive, populist, Tranzi ways would fit better, and keep them from trying to force the entire Sunshine State into slavery. Sewer Falls is a cesspool, and it is well recognized as such, even by many GOP types and “conservatives.”
Mama Liberty constantly preached the need to be careful to be as aware of the situation in which we find ourselves. Whether armed or not, situational awareness is essential to survival in any unsafe condition. It is first critical to avoid any unsafe act, but you cannot do that if you are not aware of your surroundings and of the potential for things (usually bad things) to happen.
This is particularly true when the unsafe condition is due to a human being intent on doing harm to others. Not just with a firearm, of course: knives, vehicles, clubs and many more tools – including muscles and fists and boots – present a threat.
Even the most peaceful situation can suddenly become unsafe due to human error and especially evil intent. This is clearly one major reason to be armed, both at home and in public.

Along the way, “the Alabama mom said she saw her shy boy come out of his shell, learn how to handle money and turn into a budding entrepreneur,” reports The Washington Post.“ Johnson said she wanted to impart those skills on other kids through a one-day apprenticeship on July 9.“The plan was simple: children between the ages of 6 and 10 would send her a ‘resume’ — a letter explaining what they wanted to be when they grew up — and Johnson would ‘hire’ two of them to act as a ‘smiler’ and a ‘greeter.’ After a two-hour shift helping to sell some freshly made lemonade, Johnson offered to pay each $20.”And then someone who saw the recruiting pitch on social media snitched to the Alabama Department of Labor. As a sole proprietor, Ms. Johnson can employ her own child, but no one else’s. She agreed to nix it.” But Johnson has a Plan B — an event where lemonade won’t be for sale. “It’ll be like a kid job fair or workshop,” she says. “And I’m going to teach them the same skills that I was going to try to teach them, but I’m not going to profit from selling lemonade.” Props to Johnson for adaptability — but sheesh…
Mrs. Johnson should not have to work around government like this. NO ONE should.
And we should not have to put up with stool-pigeons who are nothing but state-worshipping nannies (Mrs. Grundies or Karens). There is a tremendous difference between 6 and 7 year olds acting as greeters or even servers of lemonade outdoors for a few hours and working in a factory or sweatshop or even a pizza shop. But stupid government bureaucrats and brain-dead Karens do not see a difference, and the politicians (even MORE stupid, if that is possible) cannot write laws that make sense.
Although we at The Price of Liberty, and the Knights of Non-Aggression at the Liberty Round Table have already pointed out that the 2nd was the actual date of American Independence, we still send out greetings to all on the traditional date of commemorating the independence of the original Thirteen States.

We are glad to see that Connor, over at the Tuttle Twins publisher, also has spread the word about the 2nd of July!
Sadly, we must point out that even though in 236 (AD 2012) the absurd Obummer was living at 1600 PA, things about liberty and peace and prosperity were nevertheless much better with him there than now with Uncle Joe as the American Godfather. But we still can and should honor and remember our liberty and all those who have contributed to it in the past.
And remember to teach our children, our neighbors, our fellow worshippers and co-religionists, and even the people we meet on the streets and in the stores, what liberty and freedom truly means.
We also point out, not wishing to offend, that the gift of God to all men and women we call liberty, and the gift of freedom, is given to, and open for, even those who do not believe that there is a God. He gave us all life, liberty, and the ability to pursue happiness, without stinting. When those things are taken away, it is an action of men and women rebelling against God. Anyone who claims to be taking away liberty or life “in the name of God” is wrong. Reject their lies and reject those who take away those things regardless of where they claim to get their power, their authority, from.
Again, a happy Independence Day, and our prayers for your personal, individual independence: liberty and freedom belongs to all.
In last Friday’s news was a report that the FBI has determined that the Minneapolis Police Department has an established pattern of use of excessive force and discrimination against minorities, especially blacks and AmerInd people. This is a follow-up to the hyped George Floyd death at the hands of police in 2020.
That incident, that death, was blown up into a nationwide panic and witch hunt which has caused major changes in American society. Perhaps permanent changes. Among other things, we here at TPOL believe Floyd’s death led directly to a bitter (and so far successful) changing in how American history and teaching of history. Coupled with (and promoting) the vicious 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory, making Black Lives Matter a massive and influential movement and excuse for action, and no doubt influencing the 2020 presidential election and giving an excuse for the Biden regime to force still more changes, the impact is astonishing.
These States, we have been told, are a society, a system built on racism and the ideas of “white supremacy.” We must, as a people and fifty States (nations), totally dismantle anything that exists in which there is any possibility of these evil concepts. Now, or in the past – clear back, of course, to 1619. We must pay for the evil deeds of our ancestors – both actual physical ancestors and political-spiritual ancestors. Based, of course, on our skin color, our political and religious affiliations.
The above story seems to reinforce that attitude. After all, Minnesota and Minneapolis itself is the home, one of the founding and constant supporters of the glorious democratic (and Democratic) Progressive Movement. It is solid Blue. Politically correct. Yet, its military arm is systemically racist and tyrannical. Not historically, but today! In 21st Century America!
Yet in addition to the FBI report, a Federal judge has ordered the State of Minnesota to stop enforcing its own law discriminating against religious colleges and students. The law prohibited high school students from taking college classes from any institution that required a statement of faith.
But the above news story (even if from the corrupt and increasingly incompetent FBI) and other recent stories justify us asking, just who are the real racists?
Consider this story from Redmond, Washington. Redmond, again, is one of the heartlands of the Progressive, Woke movement in these States. Yet the city, its schools, and its society seem to be filled with evidence of racism?
In San Francisco, no less, a high school teacher has been suspended for targeting male, white students on the basis of their “gender” and race: for discrimination! In the city and the school district well-known for its constant fight against racism and for social justice, we have this?
The truth is, people of all political persuasions can be and many are racists. Against different “races” but have prejudices against some people based on color, ethnicity, ancestry, family background, and religion, among other things.Yes, even libertarians – lovers of liberty. The question is, do they follow up their beliefs or do they act in accordance with good morals and the principles of liberty despite their feelings?
Some political philosophies are more likely to provide outlets for racist actions than others. But as for us here at TPOL, who sincerely believe that we are not racists and who do not act in any way as racists, we will choose to continue to follow the God-given path of liberty.
The Blaze reported (from various mainsteam media sources and postings to Twitter) about controversy and an incident while the organization “Moms for Liberty” holding an event at the Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia on the 29th. A vocal opposition to the organization had been demanding the event be cancelled. That included employees of the museum and local government officials. However, the Museum leadership, citing constitutional, historical, and moral grounds, refused to do so. On the day of the event, “hateful” vandalism saw broken windows and damage to historical artifacts in the museum.
Not necessarily celebrating something we don’t have as much of, anymore.
The decision of the Thirteen States to secede from the United Kingdom was actually decided by the continental congress on Tuesday, the 2nd of July, 1776.
Even the National Archives admits: “Independence Day Should Have Been July 2 –July 2, 1776 is the day that the Continental Congress actually voted for independence. John Adams, in his writings, even noted that July 2 would be remembered in the annals of American history and would be marked with fireworks and celebrations.
