What Goes Up, Must Come Down

Boy killed by stray bullet fired in celebration of July 4
(The Raw Story)

Police in Chesterfield County Virginia are seeking information that could lead to the arrest of whoever fired a shot into the air that struck and killed 7-year-old Brendon Mackey on July 4. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, the boy was walking with his father in a parking lot when he abruptly fell to the ground lifeless.

Every year we read about such tragic events, and while gun owners and even some experts don’t always agree on the details, this is a very even handed description of what happens when a bullet is fired straight up into the air.

It seems obvious, however, that most bullets fired into the air, for whatever reason, are NOT aimed straight up. I would imagine that most people shooting this way take at least some care to aim away from people and buildings they can SEE, but they quite obviously do not understand the speed and trajectory of the bullet. They are obviously not thinking about the person or object that may be on the other end of that trajectory. Most importantly, however, they have chosen to ignore one of the absolutely imperative rules for safe gun handling.

ALWAYS point the gun in a safe direction. KNOW your target, and what is behind it.

You are always responsible for every single bullet that fires from your gun. Every bullet fired has to go somewhere. It WILL hit something. You are responsible for what it hits. You remain responsible if you “didn’t know,” or if you did not intend to fire the gun at all. So, firing a gun into the air, with zero idea where the bullet will land or what it will hit is not an “accident” in any rational sense of the word. An accident is an event that happens without intention, and without any reasonable warning. It is something unforeseen and, often, unavoidable. A great many things that are called “accidents” are truly incidents of negligence, by one or more people.

So, while the actual chance of killing someone is probably very low, the very act of firing a gun into the air, without a clear target and knowledge of where that bullet will land, is simply criminal negligence whether you hit the side of a building or kill someone’s prize bull. If your bullet kills a person, you are guilty of at least manslaughter. I can’t imagine any “celebration” being worth taking that chance.

Those who truly care about safety, and their reputation as responsible, rational people, need to take the one step necessary to avoid this negligence. Don’t shoot your guns into the air.

Independence Day

It is the fourth of July – commonly celebrated as “Independence Day;” the day that the Declaration of Independence was publicly proclaimed, although it had been adopted on the second of July.  237 years ago, about a million Englishmen (or so they were considered, although they were Scots and Irish and even Dutch and German and even some Manxmen and Frenchmen), one in three of the three million who had settled in thirteen small colonies along the Atlantic seaboard, decided that enough was enough and tried to take another step forward to claim the liberty that is God’s gift to EVERY man and woman.

For years, I celebrated it, with my family, my friends, my fellow soldiers and fellow lovers of liberty and fellow children of God – and not just Americans (either born or by choice) but with friends from other places not blessed directly by those distant events.

But I just can’t this year.  Just cannot, for it is now just another historic event in time and place that (though it shaped our world) has no more meaning than celebrating the day that the Maccabees liberated the temple, that Octavius defeated Marc Anthony, that the Pueblo revolted against the Spanish, or any other of the thousand events that people have commemorated over the centuries and millennia.

That act of disobedience to tyrants (and therefore, obedience to God) did not fail; the War of Independence already under way did not fail; and although the Articles of Confederation DID fail it is hard to say that the Constitution, deeply flawed though it was, failed immediately.  No, the successes were ultimately compromised and destroyed by actions that on their face are contrary to the spirit and words of the Declaration, and indeed, contrary to the spirit of the Lord which in part motivated the actions so long ago.

Today, people place undue emphasis on that day in 1776; it did not start or stop a war, it did not restore liberty or freedoms or sustain them, it did not make a nation where there had been none before.  It was merely a convenient symbol and an arbitrary assignment in time and place of those events.  To remind us, and therefore celebrate what we had.

But in this Year of Our Lord 2013, this Anno Libertalis 237, I do not have the heart to celebrate any more.  The liberty for which my spiritual and physical and social ancestors gave so much, including lives, is gone: wasted by those who benefited most from it.  My chosen professions are tainted and corrupted by the tyranny which has replaced it in great and small things.  My friends and clients are constantly harassed and weakened and punished and made poor(er) by those who hide in the red, white, and blue and now meaningless words, cloaking their evil in them to prey upon us.  My brothers and sisters in Christ are subject to growing persecution, all too often not realizing what they have lost in their liberty to worship God, and instead worship (in effect) the state, which has usurped God’s place.  But we allowed it to be done:  we wasted our liberty and traded it for security and safety. Or what we were convinced was security and safety.

Weep for what once was, and is no more. Don’t celebrate it, mourn its absence.

The best thing we can do in this time of evil is to pray and plan and prepare for what is necessary to once again “Proclaim Liberty throughout the Land and unto All the Inhabitants thereof.”  And prepare to pledge and give our “lives and fortunes and sacred honor” for that: blood and sweat and tears to be shed.  It won’t be the people of all of these formerly united States who will ever again enjoy liberty, but we can pray that as many of our families and friends and coreligionists and neighbors CAN eventually regain the liberty which is our right as humans.  And when that is done, THEN we can again have something to celebrate.

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-26B: Lies and more lies – “messiah” style

The “messiah’s” minions – Lies and more lies
Clapper: I gave ‘erroneous’ answer because I forgot about Patriot Act

(Guardian (UK))Intelligence chief tries to explain false Senate testimony by saying he ‘simply didn’t think’ of NSA efforts to collect phone data

Mama’s Note: Of course he just forgot… the “head” of all this snooping certainly can’t be expected to remember all the silly details of the “law” that supposedly justifies it all… even when giving sworn testimony. Thing is, just why did he think he could get away with such obvious lies? Proof that these morons are not omnipotent, for sure.

Nathan: Of course, the other excuse that he can use is that there are SO MANY spy efforts that he can’t remember even all the major ones.  And I might even accept his excuse…. BUT Supposedly, that is why big government thug-bosses have staffers, to REMIND them of inconvenient things (like the truth). It is like giving a presentation on elephants, and thinking “I’m not going to mention elephants!”  Man should be punished for perjury and contempt.  Best punishment?  FIRE HIM.

Tranzi tricks – Culture wars: homosexuality and “marriage”
Bill Maher: Jesus ‘Bitched’ About the Rich, But Not Homosexuality

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Filthy, disrespectful language aside, Jesus did NOT single out homosexuals for mention Himself directly.  He didn’t need to: He made it clear that ALL of the old Law (the Law of Moses) was in effect and that sin was sin, even if it could be forgiven (the example being the woman found in adultery).  He also had Peter, Paul, and the other New Testament writers clearly condemn it (even if the King James Version translators botched the translation).  More germane to the point, the Lord defined marriage as one-man-one-woman, not any combination of two or more, and anything outside of marriage as “sin” (that awful old word), so that by definition, homosexual activity is a sin.  Those who want a new-age Jesus with a big umbrella will have to try something else.  but for this column, the political impact is clear:  Despite Maher’s efforts to “defend christianity” (sarcasm here, folks), the SCOTUS decision and its language make it clear that christians who believe, teach, and practice what Jesus taught and what is found in the New Testament of the Bible are “enemies of the human race” and therefore “enemies of the state.”  No matter how much they protest that Romans 13 or any other scripture says that they are to obey the king.  “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me” – even if that “god” is the state.

Home front – Stupid people, stupid government
Odd Loaded Gun Trend Leaves TSA Officials Scratching Their Heads

(TheBlaze/AP) — Several times every day, at airports across the country, passengers are trying to walk through security with loaded guns in their carry-on bags, purses or pockets, even in a boot. And, more than a decade after 9/11 raised consciousness about airline security, it’s happening a lot more often. In fact, the increase is stunning. In the first six months of this year, Transportation Security Administration screeners found 894 guns on passengers or in their carry-on bags, a 30 percent increase over the same period last year. The TSA set a record in May for the most guns seized in one week — 65 in all, 45 of them loaded and 15 with bullets in the chamber and ready to be fired. That was 30 percent more than the previous record of 50 guns, set just two weeks earlier. Last year TSA found 1,549 firearms on passengers attempting to go through screening, up 17 percent from the year before.

Nathan: I personally think that this is a good sign.  The more of us that carry, the more likely some of us are to forget we are carrying.  People always make mistakes – and note, no information on how many of these are “law enforcement” and therefore used only to jack up the numbers.  But this means that a LOT more people are carrying – even if carrying concealed.  So criminals (including jack-booted thugs) have more to worry about on the streets and in the businesses of the nation.  Still, it is a fun story to read, and if sometimes enough to make you angry, an interesting perspective.  I was surprised to find out that TSA does not AUTOMATICALLY arrest you for carrying one (or so they claim, but again, this IS TSA), and sometimes don’t even steal the gun.  And the data in the story does pretty much match what I thought otherwise: more in the West and South, the excuse “I just forgot” usually not believed, and the fact that when you are undressed unless you ARE properly armed, you don’t think of it as much.  Especially given the way more and more of us (including gun owners and carriers) are brain dead so much of the time.

Mama’s Note: I find it very hard to believe that people found with guns in an airport are not arrested and persecuted every single time. The way the TSA carries on over a little bottle of water or a keychain “knife” would seem to illustrate their utter insanity and determination to prohibit as many things as possible. I keep waiting for them to decree that all passengers must board the aircraft stark naked. Personally, I can’t imagine forgetting that I’m carrying a gun, at least to that extent.

The “messiah” – Stealing children
Obama: ‘My Neighbor’s Child Is My Child’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Not if I can help it, and if I’m armed:  we have a word for this kind of person out west: gallows fruit (well, most modern folk would use “lead sponge” something similar for this kind of child molester.  None of my kids, none of my fellow church member’s kids, none of my relatives or neighbors’ kids belong to this thug. But clearly this man and his consort lack acceptable parenting skills, as the next story tells us about her.

The “messiah’s” consort – Lies and more lies
Michelle Obama Praises ‘Way to Sneak New Vegetables Onto the Kids’ Trays’
(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is precisely the tactic I was warned NOT to use on my children by my parents and other elders.  But exactly what I would expect out of a liar’s wife who is herself a Tranzi lawyer (or ex-lawyer).  How can you tell when a lawyer isn’t telling the truth?  When their mouth is open.  Their poor children.

Mama’s Note: Never had to trick my sons into eating vegetables. They ate anything I put in front of them. Just worked on ways to get them to slow down and enjoy it more. Unfortunately, so many of today’s parents grew up on soda pop and junk “foods,” and that’s all they know – so that’s all their children know as well. The good news is that many are looking at healthy diets and getting rid of the junk. But they have to want to do that, of course. It can’t be legislated or forced.

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-26A: Wars on religions, Twitting government

Islamic wars: Arab street revolt – War on some religions
Syrian Rebels Behead Catholic Priests in Public Execution

(The Blaze.com) While earlier reports suggested Murad may have been shot to death, Catholic Online reported Saturday: “The Vatican is confirming the death by beheading of Franciscan Father, Francois Murad, who was martyred by Syrian jihadists on June 23.”  See also:  Reported Beheading of Syrian Priest Comes Amid Rising Fear for Christians’ Safety (CNSNews.com)

Nathan: The situation turns even more nasty, as the US regime makes its alliances (or desired alliances) more clear.  We are so fortunate that the Religion of Peace ™ is present in all these countries to keep the mayhem down. I am sure that the FedGov keeps a close eye on this sort of thing to give them ideas for dealing with the upstarts and troublemakers here in the US, like the next story relates:

Home front: war on some religions – Abominable Act: ObummerCare
Obama’s Final Word: Catholics Must Buy/Provide Coverage for Abortion Drugs

(CNSnews.com)

Nathan: Was there any question otherwise?  Even those who do NOT believe in modern “humanist/evolutionist” religion must support its sacred rituals and sacraments.  There is no exception, apparently.  Of course, there is “justification” galore for this, according to the administration.

Home front: war on some religions – Abominable Act: ObummerCare
Final Reg: Mandatory Free Contraceptives, Sterilizations, Abortion-Inducing Drugs Will Prevent ‘Employee Absences’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This reminds me of excuses given in both the Third Reich and the Soviet Union for more than just these things:  the state (or the “businesses” that are more and more an integral part of the state) cannot be denied the full effort of the members of that state.

Culture wars: war against marriage
Rep. Gohmert: What’s Next – Legalized Polygamy?

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: I’ve seen multiple reports, both before and after the SCOTUS decision, indicating that proponents of polyandry or polyamory (not just polygamy) have already begun planning for the campaign for that.  Not just Muslims (who have tacitly been practicing polygamy in several jurisdictions in the US) and “Fundamentalist” LDS/Mormons, but various other groups have stated very clearly and reasonably publicly that this is the next item on the agenda: get government to recognize these relationships and then force the rest of society to both accept and promote them.  They want more than tolerance and freedom to practice their desires in these things.

Again, as I have written often,  it is NOT up to government or any other organizations to define what marriage is.  Any more than it should be allowed for government to define what liberty or freedom is.  The real issue here is the “right” to government benefits (privileges). This issue was created by government rules and regulations and laws which take away the freedom of people and their businesses and other associations.  The solution to all of this would in large part be rejecting ANY government authority to define “marriage” (or anything else), which we know is not going to happen.  If peaceful people want to have any sort of domestic arrangement, short of forcing or aggressing against others to either participate or “accept” their style of life, let them go off and do it any way they want.  But let us stop this using force (governmental or anything else) to make people not just accept but “affirm” these things, or give special privileges and  pay benefits or anything else to support some lifestyle or actions which they do not believe right.

Stupid government tricks – World war
All Countries Gather Foreign Intelligence, DNI Spokesman Says Amid EU Protests

CNSNews.com

Nathan: Funny, this comes about the same time that the “messiah” says that he doesn’t need to spy on American allies, all he has to do is call THEIR supreme leader (whomever that President or Prime Minister might be) and ask them for the answers.

Hoploclasts and hoplophobes
Colorado: Giving away 30-round magazines before they are banned

(Personal Liberty)

Nathan: Fun to read, apparently great fun to have done.  I know this park in Glendale (a small town surrounded by the City and County of Denver) and it is great to see its mayor tweaking the nose of the government and the thugs that currently make up the General Assembly of Colorado, a legislature as evil and power-hungry as the Parliament in London.  Of course, as of the 1st of July, it is illegal to buy or sell anything larger than a 15-round magazine in Colorado (although 55 of 62 sheriffs are refusing to enforce the law – or so they claim, I wouldn’t push it, though).  Not only did they give away several thousand, they sold as many as 18,000 magazines (“flooding the streets of Colorado”) with the total proceeds going to several prominent recall campaigns against some of the General Assembly thugs.

Federal tyranny – Hoploclasts
California:  Sheriff strips USFS state law enforcement authority

(Personal Liberty)

Nathan: This is El Dorado County, in the Sierras on the Nevada border, and it is totally different than what we’ve come to expect from the People’s Republic.  The story has been coming out in dribs and drabs, and the sheriff claims both that he has attempted to get the USFS “law enforcement rangers” to stop harassing not just his employers (the citizens of the County) but visitors (cash cows) to the County.  It was only later that it came out that the thing which really frosted people was that the “rangers” were demanding to know whether or not they were carrying weapons.  More information here.

More government power – the Nanny State and Government-run, tax-funded schools
Gov’t Unveils New Snack Standards for Schools: Donuts Out, Fruit Cups In

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Once more, we find the government (and media and seemingly almost everyone else) assuming that the Fedgov has the power to dictate this.  The only justification for such power is that the FedGov steals the money from whomever they want and gives it to schools, directly and indirectly, with full strings attached.  “He who has the gold makes the rules.”  This will continue until people revolt and take educating their children away from government functionaries and thugs.  Until they do, this “power” will grow and grow: it will go (through “charter schools” and private schools and even home-schooling) to dictate what parents feed their children 24-7.  Once more, “its fa da chilluns” will be an excuse for more tyranny of the most petty sort.

Libertarian Commentary on the News #13-25C: Nazgul, Other Evils, Fear and Funny

Nazgul in chief – Culture wars
Kennedy’s Former Clerk Calls Him ‘First Gay Justice’

(CNSNews.com) The DOMA decision did not require all states to recognize gay marriage; it only required that federal benefits go to same-sex couples if they were married in one of the 12 states that recognized homosexual “marriage.” [In the 5-4 ruling in the United States vs. Windsor, Kennedy wrote the majority opinion that said the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)  “singles out a class of persons deemed by a State entitled to recognition and protection to enhance their own liberty.”]  In a separate case on Wednesday, Hollingsworth v. Perry, the court ruled 5-4 that the defenders of California’s Proposition 8 did not have standing, effectively killing the 2008 voter initiative to recognize only traditional marriage in the state because the state government did not defend the law. It also effectively legalizes homosexual “marriage” for California, a right bestowed on homosexual couples by the state Supreme Court. [In the 1996 Romer v. Evans case, Colorado voters approved a law to prevent any city, town, or county in the state from making homosexuals a protected class. The Supreme Court struck down the Colorado law in a 6-3 decision written by Kennedy.  In 2003, in another 6-3 vote, Kennedy wrote the opinion for the Lawrence v. Texas case, striking down the Texas anti-sodomy law.]

Nathan: So it is not because Kennedy IS actually a homosexual, but because he is writing the opinions that so favor homosexuals – at the expense of the liberties of ALL Americans.  None of the people in California have any standing about whether or not they (the people) can amend their constitution; they are nothing but subjects, even if they elect their masters.  Coloradoans could not amend their own constitution.  Texans cannot make an abhorrent and medically-dangerous practice illegal – even if it is illegal for all persons regardless of sexual orientation.  Kennedy did not do any of these things on his own, of course, he had four or five fellow Nazgul as conspirators: participants in his assault on a once-great Republic. Kennedy may or may not be “gay” but he is certainly an example of judicial tyranny, the stench of which will drift down the ages.

Let me add a bit more.  One of the major problems with Kennedy’s written decisions for the majority is the way in which he attacks those who were on the losing side of the court cases: the majority of citizens, voters, and/or representatives in all three cases.  That isn’t my opinion, but that of his opponent Nazgul in this latest case:  Justice Scalia who pointed out that the majority has condemned as evil anyone who would oppose same-sex “marriage.” Scalia wrote that the majority, “accuses the Congress that enacted this law and the President who signed it of something much worse than, for example, having acted in excess of enumerated federal powers—or even having drawn distinctions that prove to be irrational. Those legal errors may be made in good faith, errors though they are. But the majority says that the supporters of this Act acted with malice … to disparage and to injure same-sex couples. It says that the motivation for DOMA was to ‘demean,’ to ‘impose inequality,’ to … brand gay people as ‘unworthy,’ and to ‘humiliat[e]’ their children.” Scalia cited evidence for his argument, accusing the anti-DOMA five of passing moral judgment on all who supported DOMA. “In the majority’s judgment, any resistance to its holding is beyond the pale of reasoned disagreement. To question its high-handed invalidation of a presumptively valid statute is to act (the majority is sure) with the purpose to ‘disparage,’ ‘injure,’ ‘degrade,’ ‘demean,’ and ‘humiliate’ our fellow human beings, our fellow citizens, who are homosexual… It is one thing for a society to elect change; it is another for a court of law to impose change by adjudging those who oppose it hostes humani generis, enemies of the human race.”

It goes beyond just the narrow limits of DOMA (which I oppose for the simple fact that government has no moral, legal, or constitutional power to regulate marriage, whether there is a God or not).  The Supreme Court of the United States, by a five-four ruling, considers ANYONE who does not believe that homosexuals have MORE rights, MORE liberties, MORE privileges than any other humans is an enemy of the human race.  Indeed, it goes beyond that: homosexuality, and homosexual acts are a GOOD thing and therefore anyone who does not agree that they are a good thing (for instance, anyone who considers such acts to be a sin) are themselves sinning, immoral, and enemies of the human race.

Congratulations, Mr. Justice Kennedy.  Your writing is more than likely going to be the basis in the future for outlawing Christians and Jews in the same way that pedophiles and rapists are outlawed today. (Somehow, I think Muslims will continue to get a pass, but then, I’m cynical.)

And congratulations, readers. You are reading writings that are as evil as Mein Kampf or the Protocols of the Elders of Sion.  Enjoy!

One final comment:  This ruling does not change the real definition of marriage any more than the Dred Scott decision in 1851 took away the human status of black people, or than a court decision saying that a tail is a leg would give a dog five legs.  No matter what Kennedy or anyone else claims, the Court, the Nazgul, do not have that power.

Theft by government – Tyranny
IG: IRS Targeted 100% With ‘Tea Party’ in Name; 30% With ‘Progress’ or ‘Progressive’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: It really does not matter whether it is targeted to a particular group or not, it is the fact that the IRS is being used (and relishes its use) as a weapon of politics.  End the IRS.  End the FED.

World Wars
Putin Succeeds in Getting Kyrgyzstan to Close a Key U.S. Airbase

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: At least SOMEone is pushing back against this regime.  Even while American and Russian troops establish closer ties (China, anyone), the Russians are pushing on Iran, Syria, and the illicit and unconstitutional American military presence in places like Kyrgyzstan. The headline is wrong: there is no way this can truly be a “key” air base for the US.

Stupid Tranzi – Nanny-state tyranny
Sebelius: HIV Testing Necessary to ‘Make Good Decisions About Your Health’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Complete nonsense, of course, but exactly the kind of logic that Tranzi tyrants like this evil woman use.  This is based on their assumption/hope that everyone in the nation does it like rabbits and that there is no such thing as self-control.  This is the same logic that they use when it comes to guns: they cannot believe that people are able to restrain themselves, and that given the opportunity and the tools, will not go out and kill everything/everyone that they can.  People can and do go without sex or any sort of “intimate contact” for their entire lives.  And people do not all have blood transfusions or trade needles.  Not in the real world.  But in the Tranzi universe, even the elite overlords must be watched and controlled and tested constantly.  It is, after all, for their own good.

Stupid government – Abominable Act
Obama Administration Exempts American Indians from Obamacare Mandate

(CNSNews.com) New rules clarify that people who are eligible to receive medical care through the federal Indian Health Service will be exempt from the requirement to have health insurance or face fines from the Internal Revenue Service. The Indian Health Service, a division of U.S. Health and Human Services, oversees a network of clinics that are required through treaty obligations to serve all patients of Indian ancestry, even if they cannot document their federal tribal status.

Nathan: This just expands the original exemption.  I find it ironic that the law, the Abominable Act (ObummerCare) which started shoveling dirt over the face of the dead Republic, making the Constitution totally null and void (de facto), is using the Constitutional provisions regarding treaties to expand the federal welfare state and pay off political allies.  SOME AmerInd tribes are entitled to “free” medical care as the result of specific treaty provisions, just as they are entitled to protection of their land and resources, and in some cases entitled to “free” food and clothing and housing – having paid for those “free” services through (mostly involuntarily, or under duress) giving up their land to those settlers, companies, and the federal government itself.  But MANY tribes, and therefore many people with AmerInd heritage who are enrolled in the tribes, do NOT have treaty rights – instead, seeking to expand its socialism, the FedGov has simply granted the privilege of these things to everyone in every federally (or state-) recognized tribe:  the vast majority of 6 or 7 million AmerInd people in the US.  What a wonderful country!

Abominable Act (ObummerCare) – Economy
Small Business Owners Fear the Affordable Care Act

(CNBC News) Forty-one percent of businesses surveyed have frozen hiring because of the health care law known as ObamaCare…

Nathan: All I can think is that the reason these numbers are not higher is because some people just don’t realize what is going to happen.  I heard a discussion a few days ago about how that the new immigration act would exempt those in their “trial period” to becoming “legal” immigrants from the requirement to have health insurance AND exempt the employer from paying the fine during that period.  Seems to be an overt attempt to encourage businesses to hire illegals that are “becoming legal.”  And thus trigger another round of employment convulsions.  But there is a LOT more than just the fines and expenses, and a LOT more than just freezing hiring.  More and more employers are finding every way possible to cut work hours for as many employees as possible to under 30 hours per week.  Why?  Because that is the threshold for the insurance mandate.

And just think, Ms. Pelosi, our own quaint little mix of Marie Antoinette, Imelda Marcos, and Agrippina the Younger (Nero’s vicious mom) wants us to celebrate “Health Independence Day” on the Fourth, to celebrate a year since this filthy evil law was upheld by those enemies of liberty and decency, the Nazgul Nine (SCOTUS).

Mama’s Note: The financial mess and job loss part of this is only the tip of the iceberg, unfortunately. It is important for everyone to understand that having “insurance” has little or nothing to do with actually getting medical care, especially competent and timely care. Medical professionals of all kinds have been leaving for a decade or more; finding other ways to make a living, retiring early, or limiting their practice to cash. Fewer and fewer young people are seeking medical careers, and fewer graduate every year. Who will provide all this “free” care in the long run? Nobody… trust me.

Stupid People – Theft by government
Government Can Be Efficient

(Economic Policies for the 21st Century) Government allocates enormous resources to responding to problems in an ad hoc and non-strategic manner…

Nathan: What are they smoking? This isn’t the Onion, is it? “Can be” -yeah, right, but only where the laws of probability allow you to roll a million snake-eyes in a row, and where you regularly get monkeys to type out ALL of Shakespeare’s plays, completely accurate again and again and again.  The problem is stated right in the blurb: “Government allocates enormous resources…”  Government should be forced to depend on nothing but voluntary donations for specific purposes – and even then, you can be sure that their spending would be inefficient, wasteful, and cause mischief.   Where do people get these ideas?  What’s next, someone telling us that government can be compassionate?  frugal? logical?

Nazgul and the death of law in America

Nazgul and Culture Wars: homosexual “marriage”
Supreme Court Ruling To Make Big Impact

(Political Outcast) Homosexuals across the land are celebrating in force as the US Supreme Court voted 5-4 to strike down the Defense of Marriage Act, thus opening the door to nationwide same-sex marriage. In the Court’s ruling, Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote:

“DOMA’s principal effect is to identify and make unequal a subset of state-sanctioned marriages. It contrives to deprive some couples married under the laws of their state, but not others, of both rights and responsibilities, creating two contradictory marriage regimes within the same state. It also forces same-sex couples to live as married for the purpose of state law but unmarried for the purpose of federal law, thus diminishing the stability and predictability of basic personal relations the state has found it proper to acknowledge and protect.”

Justice Antonin Scalia disagreed with the ruling and in his dissent wrote:

“We have no power to decide this case. And even if we did, we have no power under the constitution to invalidate this democratically adopted legislation. The court’s errors on both points spring forth from the same diseased root: an exalted conception of the role of this institution in America.” [Emphasis NAB]

Chief Justice John Roberts also disagreed with the court’s decision and wrote in his dissention:

“I think it … important to point out that its analysis leads no further. The court does not have before it, and the logic of its opinion does not decide, the distinct question whether the states, in the exercise of their ‘historic and essential authority to define the marital relation,’ … may continue to utilize the traditional definition of marriage.”

Nathan: There is a LOT to be said about this, but the first thing I want to point out is that these Nazgul Nine have demonstrated time and time again that they are no lovers or supporters of liberty.  For people to claim this as a victory for libertarian principles is foolish and wrong. Principles of liberty are clear: government has NO authority to decide the legitimacy of homosexual marriage any more than it has to decide the legitimacy of traditional marriage.

At the same time, those who claim (as does the writer of the above article, which goes on to predict disaster) that this decision has or is destroying America need to wake up and smell the napalm:  the Republic is DEAD and has been for a long time: at best, things like this are just ensuring that every single cell and organism in the rotting corpse is also dead.  American immorality runs rampant, but it can’t kill what no longer exists: American society and liberty and a republican form of government.

Kennedy supposedly went with and wrote the majority opinion in an attempt to moderate the ruling: I find that hard to believe.  At the same time, in a narrow way, he makes sense: the law creates conflicts in states and nationally that are not in accordance with the Constitution.  As if that still mattered, frankly.  Of course DOMA was flawed: Congress is incapable of passing an unflawed law.  Totally incapable.  The idea that the obligation of one state to recognize the actions of another state in a situation like this (definition of a basic human institution) is stupid and dangerous.  If one state (say, New Jersey) redefines rat poison as milk and therefore suited for human consumption, is Colorado or South Dakota obligated to allow the poison to be imported and sold as milk?  Of course not.  If a New Yorker is wanted for putting 15 rounds in a 15-round magazine by the State of New York, is South Dakota going to “recognize” the legitimacy of the New York law by extraditing the supposed felon?  You better believe that they won’t.  (Not yet, at least. Colorado will, starting on Monday – at least the General Assembly and the Governor and Attorney General will – the majority of the counties might not.)

Roberts also made some sense with his dissent, but he should have been more blunt.  Marriage was not created nor defined by government, local, state or federal – or indeed by any human institution, including the Catholic Church or any other denomination or organization.  The States stole their “authority” to define marriage, and now the FedGov tried to steal it from the States.  He should have demanded that ALL federal laws regarding marriage were unconstitutional, because NO ONE gave the FedGov that authority.

But I feel the most sympathy with Scalia and his very VERY angry condemnation of the majority decision.  The Nazgul, as a GROUP – a gang of nine, have exceeded the hubris of even such people as King Saul and King George III.  “Too high an opinion” indeed.

Some commentators have pointed out a number of possibilities.  First, what does this open the window to?  Polygamy, certainly – indeed polyamory in any combination, whether Muslim one man and four women or old LDS-style one man and one to a dozen+ women/girls or the feminists’ dream of a dozen men and one woman, or the equivalent of a pick-up team for football…  And yes, there is a possibility that age restrictions and the end of statutory rape is not too far down the path, as well as the various forms of bestiality and necrophilia and who knows what else.  But don’t expect the laws to be disappeared: that is too simple and too likely to provoke a backlash:  it is just enforcement that will go away.

And that is the thing I note of particular interest.  The Nazgul have, intentionally or not, presented another grave disservice to the suffering people of this nation.  By declaring even a part of DOMA unconstitutional (you know that the general public will consider ALL of it to have been voided), they have given a free pass to that swarmy black-face, would-be Himmler minion of the guy who hangs out in 1600.  He (obviously with the support of his massa and his massa’s massas) on his own decided to stop enforcing DOMA years before this decision.  I suspect that he will simply broaden his activities of refusing to enforce more and more laws.

Never mind the gunrunning, never mind the voter fraud and intimidation and other voter rights (the one part he DID enforce was the part ruled unconstitutional as well, this week).  never mind the NSA and IRS and DOJ violations of laws: ANY law that is in someone’s way – as long as that ‘someone’ has any clout or can pay enough – will be enforced or ignored at will.  It will appear to be whimsical, but it will not be: it will be done based on some very simple criteria:  (a) is it good for me?  (b) is it good for my family?  (c) is it good for my patrons or buddies? (d) is it good for my clientèle (in the Roman sense)?  Don’t worry, religious or traditional American morality won’t play any role in the decision, and now we are definitely back to Caligula and Nero – not just tyranny, but cruel and vindictive tyranny.

We were warned – shucks, we have been warning people a lot.  And we just slide farther and farther into the abyss.  Government should have NOTHING to do with marriage, but that isn’t going to happen with this government: I cannot see any circumstance except total overthrow of this ersatz regime that would end that interference.  Until then, this (like government meddling with divorce and parental responsibility before it) will just speed up the already rapid decay of society, “civilization,” and liberty – while pretending to “liberate” us.  Shades of Iraq and Afghanistan, eh?

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-25B: Border jumpers and Congress

Congress in action – Border jumpers
Corker: If Bill Says ‘Immigration Reform,’ Some Senators ‘Won’t Support It’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Don’t you think that is better than supporting every bill that crosses their desk?

Mama’s Note: Indeed… Doing nothing, gridlock, cross purposes, big hairy fights on the house and senate floor, shutting the whole thing down and forgetting about it… any of those will work for me.

New Religions: Environism and Global Warming
Gore: ‘Energy Release’ Equal to ‘400,000 Hiroshima Atomic Bombs Going Off’ Every Day

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Whew! Good thing someone turns that thing off every night, huh?  Or does it REALLY go around to the other side of the planet?  Of course, we all know that the earth and the sun and everything else revolves around His Green Highness Algor…

Mama’s Note: Good grief. How does someone that stupid manage to draw the next breath?

Stupid Congress tricks – Border Jumpers
Feinstein: ‘I Can’t Remember How Many DUIs Somebody Can Have’ and Still Be Legalized Under Immigration Bill

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Sounds like she’s had a few too many DUIs to be legalized herself.  We now send people to prison for as few as three – and just ONE if someone is killed or injured as a result, so of COURSE we want to give a free pass, as the next story relates.

Stupid Congress tricks – Border Jumpers
Senate Bill Will Legalize Illegal Aliens Who Have 2 DUIs

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is no different than the passports. I could lose my engineer’s license for even ONE DUI, and certainly counterfeiting just ONE passport (or any other government paper) would land me in jail AND disbarred.  Unless I can change my name and get an accent!

Mama’s Note: What a silly thing to hinge it on anyway. One would assume that a record of armed robbery or assault, etc. would be much more important.

Stupid government – Islamic wars: Afghan front
Air Force Secretary Touts ‘Gay Pride’ Events in Afghanistan Where Homosexuality is Illegal
(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: The cultural blindness of so many of our “public servants” – regardless of their sexual orientation – is very difficult to comprehend.  But this is NOT unusual:  consider that the US routinely denies federal aid and “humanitarian” and military assistance to countries that refuse to abide by US standards (as the Tranzis define them) for things like abortion and “gay” rights and such – EXCEPT for these Muslim countries.  Notwithstanding, this minion of the “messiah” is likely going to encourage a good number of fundamental-radical-Islamofascists to go get themselves some “gays.”  It is a twofer, after all: both a ferengi AND a homo all in a nice camo uniform!

Stupid government – New religions: environism – Lies and more lies
Obama: No Keystone (XL) Pipeline If It Increases Carbon Emissions

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: There you almost certainly have the bell toiling for the entire project.  Who cares about a few million people in the Upper Great Plains, or a few trillion dollars in savings: and never mind that the Earth’s temperature hasn’t gone up by a single measurable one-tenth degree Celsius in 15 years while carbon emissions have (outside the US, naturally). We HAVE to cut carbon emissions to “save the planet” for the Tranzis.

Mama’s Note: And, of course, never mind that “carbon emissions” have nothing to do with climate change, real or imagined. Just another excuse for control and the destruction of the economy.

Kerry: No Saudis Fighting in Syria

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: My, the man is amazing: he and his staff personally quizzed every combatant in Syria to determine that there are none!  Or does he mean there is no one of the House of Saud, that tribe-mob-plutocracy that Saudi Arabia is named for?

Mama’s Note: Or… he just asked the Saudi king about it and he said no, so that settles it. Personally, I don’t really care. They can all kill each other if they wish. The US taxpayer shouldn’t be getting the bill for it, that’s all.

The “messiah’s” minions – Politics 2013
Holder: SCOTUS Decision on Voting Rights Could Negatively Affect Millions

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Indeed, millions of parasites and scam-artist politicos and other lowlife types.  And a few innocent folks here and there, I’m sure.  But this decision is too little, too late: the American electorate has been reduced to a mob long ago, and the Voting Rights Act was a major part of it: the states reduced to mere agents for an ever more powerful government, using this law for nearly 50 years to gain more power.

Congress in action – Border jumpers
Bill: Only Someone Who ‘Counterfeits, Alters or Falsely Makes 3 or More Passports’ Has Committed Crime

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Funny, funny.  You ever read all the fine print on ANY government form you have to fill out and sign?  Ain’t no “three strikes and THEN you are out” on those for American citizens or for HONEST people who have immigrated to this land.  Only the border jumpers…

World wars
US Taxpayers Fund UN Human Rights Council Activities Which the US Opposes

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Which SOME people in the US oppose.  Obviously NOT a majority (or at least not a majority with GUTS) in the Congress, or the people who vote for them time and time again.  This is, certainly, NOT the only or by any means the most important action the US is doing that a great many people find acceptable.  But you can be sure that the squatter in 1600 PA doesn’t care.

World wars
BBC Poll: World’s Opinion of U.S. Lowest Since Bush Presidency

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: My oh my, isn’t that sad.  I don’t think we should really care, because what the rest of the world thinks about the present squatter in 1600 PA isn’t really of great importance.  As long as there is a majority in the House and the Senate who refuse to charge, try and convict him of the evil crimes against liberty and humanity he and those working for him have committed, the US and the world will continue to plunge downward.

Quote of the Week

Day by day, brick by brick, we are losing our country. It’s demise looks inevitable.
– Matt Allen

Mama’s Note: I guess that depends on what you call your “country.” If that is the constitution and the “republican” form of government, I would agree. But my COUNTRY isn’t the same thing as any government. Instead, I think the inevitable demise of the government presents the ultimate opportunity for individual sovereignty and a truly free market to develop.

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-25A: Local tyranny, stupidity

Local Tyranny
New Hampshire: Keene sues six parking meter `Robin Hoods’ who put money in expired meters

(Manchester Union Leader) “The city has filed a lawsuit against six citizens, part of a group dubbed Robin Hood of Keene that patrols downtown armed with video cameras and pockets full of change to fill expired parking meters. Also known as Robin Hooders, the six are associated with the Free Keene group. … The group says the suit was filed because the city is losing revenue from parking tickets. The city says the activists are harassing its employees.” (06/13/13)

Debby: Oh, so much fun!!!  I could come up with so many excuses and justifications.  I received psychic appeals to pay the meters – and do the metermaids know that I wasn’t asked to do this by the people who would otherwise get tickets.  It is part of my religious duty to do this for these people because I have had people do it for me and I want to them do it to others.  It is a religious ritual for me to give alms to needy people.

Nathan: I think that the City of Keene is going to really REALLY regret doing this.

Mama’s Note: I sincerely hope so, Nathan. They are truly losing their collective marbles.

Local tyranny
Turtle Creek, Pennsylvania:  Police invade home and arrest people over uncut lawn

(Lew Rockwell via Freedom’s Phoenix) Police came barging into a woman’s home because they wanted to arrest the owner for the length of her lawn. A tenant, Robyn Ruckman, recorded the [incident].

Nathan: A bogus warrant, in a land where uncut grass makes someone a criminal?  Land of Lawn Nazis indeed.  The video gives you that horrid “pit in the stomach” feeling as you see the woman treated like a dog by three cops out cleaning the streets of criminals.

Theft by government
IRS Sent $46,378,040 in Refunds to 23,994 ‘Unauthorized’ Aliens at 1 Atlanta Address

(CSNNews.com)

Nathan: At least it was ONLY $46 million – unlike Solyandra or all the Beltway bandits.  The IRS shows that it has an agenda: undermining society and the economy.  When you add in revelations about IRS employees who used “stolen” credit cars to charge diet pills and spent money to literally “wine and dine” foreign visitors, and the constant attacks on the political and religious groups, it is clear it is NOT just a Nixonian enemies list, but an attack on liberty on a very wide scale.

Mama’s Note: Had to read the article to find out what sort of “aliens” they were talking about. So confusing since they stopped saying “illegal aliens,” which was easily understood. I’m glad to hear that the “refunds” were not being sent to Martians anyway. What too many people don’t seem to realize is that the “refund” isn’t nearly as much of a problem as the original theft. Stop the theft, and this kind of thing goes away automatically.

Sectarian Killings Erupt in Egypt As Anti-Morsi Rallies Loom

(CSNNews.com)

Nathan: No doubt this is exactly what the Egyptian authorities want: an opportunity to crack down more and put fear into the Coptics and anyone else who is unwilling to go along.

Stupid government tricks
Obama Administration’s Fire Prevention Strategy Includes Goats

(CSNNews.com)

Nathan: And more than just scapegoats, although there are plenty of those being offered up by this administration.  It is either a great idea, or a really stupid excuse for doing something while the West burns.  And these are only going to work in some areas – like California.  The environists love it!

Mama’s Note: Well, the environists might like it just fine, but the people who actually live there might not like it so much. Goats actually are extremely destructive if left to themselves, and eat the same things as the deer. They also reproduce rather rapidly. Wouldn’t it be funny if the goats turned out to be as much of a problem as the feral pigs are now in so many areas. That ought to go over well.

Theft by government
Medicare by the Scary Numbers

(Wall Street Journal) Based on more plausible assumptions, the unfunded liability for Medicare is more than $100 trillion, say John C. Goodman, president and CEO, and Laurence J. Kotlikoff, a senior fellow, with the National Center for Policy Analysis…

Nathan: No way that this is EVER going to be paid off.  Instead, millions and millions of people will suffer from diseases and die prematurely because government cannot and will not be there to pay for it – except for the well-connected.

Mama’s Note: Or maybe not. More and more people are already looking to alternatives for their health and wellness. Those who are willing to think critically and independently make increasingly better health decisions for themselves and their families. Fewer and fewer doctors and health care facilities are accepting Medicare, and that will increase fast now. Actually, Obummercare will help accomplish this before Medicare itself comes apart at the seams.

Stupid government – Environism
How Green Protectionism Harms Sustainable Forestry, the Environment and the World’s Poor

(National Center for Policy Analysis) Under the guise of safeguarding the environment, green protectionism benefits domestic suppliers while inhibiting developing countries from efficiently exploiting their natural resources, says Marcelo Ostria, a research associate with the National Center for Policy Analysis…

Nathan: This IS of course one reason for the “green protectionism” – latest version of the “mother-country/colony”  system that has been the immoral technique of stealing from producers and enriching exploiters and parasites for millenia.  Assyria did it, Egypt did it, Rome did it.  The Brits and French and Russians (and Soviets) and DC did it.  DC does it as much INside the “United States” as outside:  today, the “green protectionism” keeps Western States poor as well.

Stupid government
Congress Should Charge for Recreational Activities on Federal Lands

(Cato Institute)  Fees to use federal lands can help pay for maintenance and improvements of recreation areas, and will create incentives for both recreation users and recreation providers…

Nathan: I’ve got a better idea.  This “pay as you use” business is treating the symptoms and not the disease.  The better idea: Get the FedGov OUT of the “land ownership” business.  No one can show ANY Constitutional authority for the FedGov to own ANY land except for forts, arsenals,  offices, and the like.  No authority to own parks, recreation areas, historic sites, and the like: these should be returned (or given) to the states, or much better yet, transferred to private ownership.  Yeah, I know: it ain’t gonna happen.  Still, if we really want to care for these places properly…

Mama’s Note: Indeed, Nathan, but where does anyone get the idea that the users don’t pay for these things… those who use them and, of course, everyone else. And “paying for it” with lost freedom and economic opportunities is a very large part of it.

Stupid government
How to Fix the Federal Housing Administration

(American Enterprise Institute) The Federal Housing Administration needs at least a $50 billion to $100 billion capital infusion to put it on a sound financial footing…

Nathan: I have to disagree with the AEI: there IS no “fix” to the FHA.  It is an entity that must be put down and buried.  It has been one of many causes of the severe degradation of the American economy.  To throw “good” money after bad is all that would result.  Is it not time to recognize the deadly black thumb of government when it comes to things like this?

Economy – Tranzi stupidity
Women and the Unequal Pay Myth

(Real Clear Markets) In a comparison of unmarried and childless men and women between the ages of 35 and 43, women earn more — 108 cents on a man’s dollar…

Nathan: Funny how we all take the various claims about how women are discriminated against as fact and seek to justify them, when the truth has been out there all along.  Life is NOT fair: there are ALWAYS discriminators and discrimination:  and always will be.

Mama’s Note: I would venture to guess that very few incidences of “less pay for the same work” are the result of actual pointless discrimination. A lot of it is sheer economic necessity these days, with far more workers than jobs driving real wages down everywhere. And each intervention by government serves only to make things worse, often by eliminating the job altogether. Makes as much sense as anything else they do, of course.

Minding Our Own Business

Bloomberg: Nanny-in-chief or health crusader?
By Tom Watkins, CNN
Since taking office in 2002, Bloomberg has unleashed a tsunami of public health initiatives intended to do just that — cutting sodium in prepared meals, ordering that menus in chain restaurants carry calorie counts, posting restaurants’ health department grades, as well as limiting the use of tobacco products.

So, just how and where did Mr. Nanny obtain any legitimate authority to decide all these things for other people?

Any serious cross section of the news headlines will result in dozens or more stories where some people are spending an awful lot of their time and money – and even more often spending stolen taxpayer money and efforts – in the attempt to stop or regulate exactly this sort of activity, from the serious to the trivial, little or none of which involves any actual threat to anyone else’s life or property. Hefty “fines” and even jail threats for not mowing the grass, or planting flowers, flying a flag, and a thousand other things being the trivial, and bogus “crimes” of insisting on the right to associate or trade with certain people and not others being far more serious. There are many many other such issues that span the entire spectrum, with the very serious attempts to keep people uninformed and helpless a very large part of it.

Most of it is driven by the desire of too many people to control, somehow, the thoughts and non-aggressive actions of other people. They simply can’t seem to mind their own business, and leave everyone else alone to do the same. We won’t go into the fact that no “law” can predict or prevent actual harm from happening. When that is peeled down to essentials, we find that preventing the harm is not really the central goal anyway, but that control of others most certainly is – even when the controllers sincerely believe it is “for our own good.”

Even worse, far too many are quite willing to use theft, lies, fraud (emotional blackmail), all sorts of coercion and even murder to accomplish their goal of forcing others to live more in line with their ideas of what is right and good and usually, not incidentally, for fun and profit as well. I am completely convinced that the power to control others, even the desire to do so, is the most addictive thing on earth, and one of the most destructive.

The conviction that a particular attitude, thought or action is “immoral” has led a great many people over the ages to do terrible and beastly things to their fellow men. Some sterling examples of this in history are the Inquisition, various reiterations of the Salem witch trials, and our best modern examples; the “war on drugs,” raw milk, consensual sex for money and, of course, “the war on guns” to create ever more disarmed victims..

The next time you disapprove of some comment or action by your neighbor – next door or anywhere – you might ask yourself if that other person is actually doing any literal harm to you or someone else. Not “inconvenience,” or “hurt feelings” or even “offense.” And harming themselves is also nobody else’s business.

If no real harm to you or others is imminent, before you comment or take action against them, you might consider simply shrugging and going about your own life instead. You don’t have to approve of anything to ignore it, any more than you have a legitimate authority to stop what others do or say.

Seems to me that the world would be a truly peaceful place if we’d just all mind our own business.

Guns Are Tools

I don’t think anyone is prepared to argue that guns are not dangerous tools. The question is, however, are guns more dangerous than other tools and are they effective for their primary purpose?

First, let’s look at some other tools and their potential uses.

I’m sure most people don’t think of automobiles as “tools,” but that’s just what they are. They are a collection of mechanical devices and support structures to accomplish their purpose. The most obvious purpose for autos and trucks is simple transportation, either of people or cargo, but they can be used for a fairly wide variety of other things.

Racing, either as a sport or a profession, is one other use. Some vehicles include specialized compartments and can be used for work shops or living quarters. Some cars and trucks are valuable because they are beautiful and/or very old and are used mostly for display by collectors.

Automobiles can also be used to damage and destroy things and people, either deliberately or accidentally (though “accidents” – with ANY tool – are almost always the result of negligence on the part of at least one person). Cars and trucks can be intentionally blown up, crashed or simply set on fire to harm people easily. What the vehicle cannot do is INITIATE either good or bad actions. They are inanimate objects without any mind or ability to function without human involvement.

And that is the bottom line for every single tool in the world, including guns. A tool can’t “cause” a person to act, or influence them in any way against their will. The argument about violence “caused” by the convenient availability of guns is easily seen to be ridiculous if applied to any other tool. The inanimate object can not dictate the use to which it is put. Only the human who holds it can decide that, and if the desired tool is not readily available that person can either manage to find one or use something else instead.

Only a little searching in the news archives should be needed to convince anyone that a great many different tools can be, and are often used to harm people, even large numbers of them, and most of those tools are not guns after all! Seventy to eighty five percent of violent crime involves no weapon except the criminal’s own hands. Only eight percent of violent crimes of all kinds involve a gun.  (Numbers given at the Bureau of Justice web site are for 2009, and crime statistics have decreased substantially since then.)

But, some tools are more effective for certain uses than others. One can hardly use an automobile to cut their steak, or find a steak knife suitable to cut down trees. A tool for self defense must be portable and effective. A gun is actually a fairly simple tool, and millions of people are taught how to use them effectively with some instruction and diligent practice. It is actually easier to learn to shoot well than to drive an automobile, and much easier to master than martial arts. So called “less than lethal” defensive tools might do – but then again, might not be effective at all.

Amazingly, most defensive uses of a gun do not result in shots fired or, even when that can’t be helped, do not result in the death of either person. But gang related crime is increasing in many places, and innocent bystanders are often injured or killed when these gangs clash.

When people are prepared and motivated, even when confronted with a violent criminal who has no weapon but his hands, using a gun gives the intended victim a much better chance of avoiding injury or death. It is clear that most criminals do not wish to be hurt or killed themselves, and will avoid places where people are most apt to be armed and free to defend themselves. Criminals want easy, weak, and above all, helpless victims.

When people are not able to defend themselves effectively, and most or all weapons are “legally” prohibited, the person who desires to harm others has a free hand and can use any tool he wishes to accomplish his or her evil purpose because anyone willing to commit murder is unlikely to be constrained by any other laws.  When it is “illegal” to have a gun, the criminals will certainly still have them – and any other dangerous tool they want, including their hands.

I once had to shoot a man to save my life. If I had not had a gun in my hand that night, I would probably be dead. That’s all I really need to know to make my decision every day to own the most effective self defense tool I can get. I sincerely hope I never have to shoot anyone again, but I carry a gun and I know how to use it.
