Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-23B: Politics and headaches

By Nathan Barton

Good morning. The big news on Tuesday evening was a Tea Party Movement victory in Virginia.

Actually it is being sold as a “stunning” Tea Party Movement victory and Eric Cantor of Virginia is toast, so (they say) the entire power structure in the House of Representatives is tilting.  Or so it could be, if the insurgents in the GOP are able to get their act together.  But at the same time, Lindsey Graham defeated those challenging him in part because they could not get themselves organized.  Stupid?  Yes, but that is the GOP in the 21st Century (and for the last 60 years).  I am not holding my breath that the Congress will really improve.  Yes, I know that Cantor resigned as Majority Leader, but tell me, do you seriously think that the GOP in Congress is going to elect someone COMPETENT to this office? Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-23A: News we really don’t want to have to hear

By Nathan Barton

Good morning, as summer is here, the news is not necessarily what we want to hear, both from abroad and at home.

The violence against Christians in Africa continues. While we usually hear about Nigeria, last week in Central African Republic (CAR), Islamists murdered 30 christians inside of their church where they were hiding from the violence between rebel groups on the streets.  Again, these people apparently were “law-abiding” and were not armed and able to defend themselves.  People in churches around the world should keep that in mind: BE PREPARED. Crash of 2009 and government damage to the economy still with us (Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-22E)

By Nathan Barton

According to the FedGov and its sycophants and supporters and hangers-on, the “last recession” ended sometime in 2009 and we have been “enjoying” a “modest recovery” for the last five years.  Now, there is worry that (blame it on bad winter weather, which is blamed on man-made global warming) we are sliding back into recession.  That is sheer garbage, and anyone willing to look around and talk to people – even in states that have fared better in the last couple of years (like the Dakotas and Montana) – can see that. Trust, Safety and Guns

By MamaLiberty

Do you drive frequently in heavy traffic? Aren’t all the other drivers complete strangers? You have no idea what their intentions are or their competence to operate a vehicle – and the “driver’s license” is certainly no guarantee of competence, of course.  Are you in constant fear that someone will deliberately cause a wreck? Or do you simply drive as safely as you know how and hope everyone else does the same? Yes, “accidents” happen, but you actually must trust that it won’t, to a great extent, or you wouldn’t leave the house – or a mental hospital. Think about that. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-22D: This and that

By Nathan Barton

Good morning; news stories galore but nothing really major today.

Supposedly, gasoline prices are near a short-term peak and will drop “substantially” in June, even with the 4th of July (3-day) weekend coming up.  So says the gubmint.  Right.  After Memorial Day, prices were supposed to drop, but in the Four Corners they just went UP another seven cents.  Despite all the hype and promises, the government continues to force prices higher through inflation and cracking down on refineries, drillers and producers.  Expect more of the same. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-22C: Government abuse and protection

By Nathan Barton

Good afternoon!

Texas Senator John Cornyn asked Obama for FBI probe Of the VA, to have the FBI to lead the widening investigation into alleged wrongdoing at Veterans Affairs facilities across the country.  This is stupid: he “asked” instead of simply having Congress pass a law, that he should beg the Fuehrer. Stupid gunowners, stupid businesses (Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-22B)

By Nathan Barton

Good morning, and you have my family’s prayers for you today.

World news seems to be rather distasteful today.  But I will start close to home. On Friday, both Chipotle’s and Sonic’s both asked their customers to stop openly carrying guns: Chipotle’s exempting “law enforcement” and Sonic limiting their request to their indoor and patio seating areas (yes, many Sonics DO have indoor eating/seating areas these days).  Now, first off, let me say that these businesses are both within their rights AND are being stupid in doing so: especially Chipotle’s – as they open themselves to being “disarmament zones” and therefore seen as more lucrative targets for robbers and holdup artists.  Like others, I expect them to both have one or more of their locations held up sooner than later. (Actually, I’m wrong: a Sonic was held up in Houston the same day Sonic made its request.) Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-22A: Children being “saved”

By Nathan Barton

Good morning, and welcome to June.  Children have been in the news the past few days.

Everyone knows that children can and must be protected from their parents first and foremost.  We have a number of stories about that, starting with a continuing one in Africa.  The Embassy of Sudan in Washington, D.C. is using the death-for-apostasy conviction of a Christian mother of two, who is the wife of a U.S. citizen, to “emphasize that freedom of choice is the cornerstone” of Islam.  The people of Sudan are soooo fortunate to have Islam as their religion, instead of being forced to convert to Judaism or Christianity at the point of the sword, as those in the West are.  And their society is kept pure through great effort, just like in other Muslim countries. Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-21C: It is about the power

By Nathan Barton

Good morning.  Temperatures climbing nationwide as we enter summer but there are still lots of mountains with snow on them, and vast areas still to turn green.  Politically, things remain on the boil, but more and more people are frustrated more and more with government. Continue reading
