Supply, Demand and The Gorilla

By MamaLiberty

Last year, I wrote “Your Groceries are Shrinking.” Anyone who cooks and buys groceries knows that this is getting worse all the time. Not just packages shrinking, but whole categories of food and other products are either vanishing or becoming too expensive for everyday use. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-21B: ObummerCare and PoliceCare (NOT)

By Nathan Barton

Good morning!  This is (officially) a short workweek because some people back in the 1960s decided the old traditional Memorial Day on the 31st (and previously, on a Sunday) was going to be a national holiday, for which we pay millions of government “workers” (drones, most of ’em) taxpayers’ money for doing even LESS than usual.  And which messes up training schedules and duty rosters for military personnel and their families.  And lets stores have an excuse to sell a lot.  Based on response from various agencies today, I suspect a lot are taking more than just a three-day weekend.  But then, short-term memory CAN be a problem and they may have to guess what they were working on at 1400 or so on Friday… Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-21A: Killings and Memories

By Nathan Barton

Good morning, and welcome to Memorial Day.  Please remember all the dead of war, not just American dead, and not just American war; especially those wars still going on. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-20E: Home front economics

By Nathan Barton

Good morning. Fighting off flu-like symptoms, here is a short commentary to end the week. I start out with a real zinger today.  There are lies, and then there are LIES and then there are BIG WHOPPING LIES.  Think this fits into the third category: the Fuehrer baldly states that Americans are better off today than we were in January of 2009, more than five years ago.  He went on in a speech on Monday night to talk about the “Land of Lincoln” and how that proved… something.  Lincoln WAS a quasi-socialist, a tyrant, and an Illinois lawyer, so there is a lot to be proven. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-20D: “Unintended consequences?”

Good morning… I think. Lots of fun things:

In Connecticut, one of the strongest (worst) police states of the Fifty States, the legislature has been “forced” (by the fear of losing federal money) to make chocolate milk illegal in schools, together with guns and common sense and sound thinking and teaching. The governor “may” veto it, but this is one of the many results of the Fuehrer’s Consort’s nanny-state whinging about keeping children from going hungry OR getting fat.  And if that is case in Connecticut, are the other Forty-Nine far behind? Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-20C: Veterans – worthless to FedGov

By Nathan Barton

Good morning!  Did you know that half the nation is in drought?  This is due to global warming, it is claimed, although this is typically the case for May for decades, and within the last decade there have been serious droughts very commonly in places like Texas and… California.  The Black Hills is NOT in drought right now, which is nice; neither is much of the rest of Wyoming.  Of course, the Four Corners is in moderate drought, which doesn’t bother us as much as it does people downstream. Continue reading

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-20B: cops and killing and more

By Nathan Barton

Good morning! It is a weekly, if not daily, litany of new crimes and wickedness perpetrated by gangs in this nation: gangs in blue uniforms (well, increasingly, black uniforms) with their fancy cars and high-tech equipment and always heavier and heavier weapons.  The Fuehrer has famously stated that we must remove military weapons from the nation, because they don’t belong on our streets.  At the same time, federal agencies put MORE and MORE automatic weapons in more and more American neighborhoods, business districts, and rural and frontier areas.  And give more and more powerful weapons, including armored vehicles, to local police forces.  These same forces that are afraid of vets coming back Stateside and building IED’s to take out cops.  Why would anyone what to attack cops?  Hmm… Continue reading

Please read this article: Why Liberty Dies

By Nathan Barton

Although I do not think that the author stated everything accurately, and is still too much a proponent of coercive government (as contrasted to self-government and voluntary association), this article is very much worth reading and sharing with those who are still thinking that these Fifty States are free nations.  And even those who believe that minarchy (minimal coercive government) is possible.

THIS IS WHY LIBERTY DIES

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #14-20A: Government above the law

By Nathan Barton

Good morning.  After a long weekend and frustrations with government agencies across four states, I am in fine fettle today.  The growing power and even more rapidly growing abusive nature of governments from the westernmost island of Hawai’i state clear to the North Woods of Maine was very obvious in the past few days, especially the way in which police forces and other agents of the state conspire to bully, maim, and kill even children as well as other innocents – and even if some that they maim and kill are guilty of some crime, the cops’ use of force is NOT in any way self-defense.  Yet we see it happening more and more.  Here are a few examples. Continue reading

Living Alone, Staying Alive

By MamaLiberty

Last week I wrote about the priorities of training, with ongoing situational awareness and realistic analysis of your individual risk factors as potentially even more important than your gun handling skills, vital as those are. This week I’d like to start with one of the specific risk factors and some of the things that can be done to avoid problems and improve one’s overall readiness to respond appropriately if and when the trouble you don’t want comes along anyway. Continue reading
