Libertarian News & Commentary, #13-21A: Self-defense and Stupidity

Work and travel have again conspired this week to delay commentaries!  But there is lots going on.

European collapse – Self-defense
Swedes Take to the Streets to Defend Their Neighborhoods

(Publicerat, Sweden) Stockholm. Faced by another night of terror at the hands of predominantly immigrant rioters, Swedes grown tired of the police’s inability to put an end to the unrest took to the streets Friday night to defend their neighborhoods.

Mama’s Note: So, of course, the police round up the defenders, not the rioters.

Nathan: Of course.  That is par for the course for as Tranzi a nation as Sweden.  The coppers deny it all, of course, but why would they NOT do it: ordinary Swedes, even Neo-Nazis and “football hooligans” are unlikely to firebomb the police stations or slit the throats of policemen (or their families), but the “immigrant’ (Even THIS guy won’t call them Muslims) rioters and their kind WILL burn and slit and probably rape as well.  (You wonder if some readers are so stupid that they think “immigrant” means British “football hooligans” and German “neo-Nazis” instead of the throwbacks to the 7th Century?) Or is the media so stupid that they think readers will believe this?

Theft by government – Corruption & Tyranny
IRS to Tea Party: ‘State the Reasons You Did Not Have a Candidate Rally for Lone Democratic Candidate’

(CNSNews.com) The Internal Revenue Service, in a letter dated November 16, 2011, asked the Albuquerque Tea Party why it didn’t host a “candidate rally” in 2010 for the lone Democratic gubernatorial candidate in New Mexico after it had hosted a “question and answer forum” for the Republican candidates.  On the Democrat side, then-Lt. Gov. Diane Denish was running for New Mexico governor unopposed, but five Republicans were running in the primary for the opportunity to face Denish in November.

Nathan: Ah, the bureaucratic mind at work when fronting for tyranny is a fearsome thing to behold.  This is a perfect example of how very small (and silly) things can be used as a pretext for cracking down on your political enemies.  End the IRS.  Now.

What we must remember is that this situation was inevitable, now that we have achieved the century mark for the federal income tax and the “need” for an organization like the IRS.  This is NOT a drastic change in IRS policy and impact: the IRS thrives on intimidation and abuse of those it feeds on – AND CONGRESS KNOWS IT.  It is just that it has reached the “final straw” stage and the political circumstances are such that people are now openly screaming about it.  But I do not think that there is any political will yet to do the only thing that would work: ending the organization, which requires scrapping the ENTIRE tax system at the federal level (and therefore, most states’s systems) and replacing them by something else.

It is also important to remember that ANY tax is, by its very nature, nothing but “legalized” theft.  There is NO MORAL DIFFERENCE between a decision by 268 people (1/2 of 535 Senators and Congressmen plus the guy at 1600 PA) to make you or me pay taxes and using the threat of armed force to make us “voluntarily” pay it, and the guy who whips out a gun on a dark street corner and says, “give me all your money.”  No moral difference.

Mama’s Note: No moral difference, and it wouldn’t matter what the IRS was “replaced” with. The practical difference between the IRS and the street corner mugger is the fact that the guy on the street will vanish, never to return – even if we don’t shoot him. The IRS holds that gun to our head daily, even hourly and robs us repeatedly and increasingly while we have little or no choice but to pay or start a revolution.

It’s Terrorist Against Terrorist in the Widening Syrian War

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: A major reason that US forces – and US money stolen from taxpayers – has no business in Syria.  While “the enemy of my enemy may be my friend” in this case they are ALL our enemies, and (besides many other reasons) we need to let them kill and torture and destroy each other.

Stupid government tricks – the “messiah’s’ minions
Kerry: Africans’ Access to U.S.-Funded AIDS Drugs Is ‘Breathtaking Accomplishment’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Charity begins at home:  if this is so important to Africa, should not it be Africans that are paying for the access to these drugs?  And not American’s stolen money, ultimately to be impoverished by being the doctor and nurse as well as policeman to the world?

Mama’s Note: It’s even more complicated and insane than that, Nathan. There is a fair body of solid evidence to indicate that the drugs are far more deadly, in the long run, than the disease. Follow the money… the major pharma outfits who make the drugs are some of the few industries in the world still making money hand over fist.

No Evidence Chicago Red Light Cameras Based on Safety — System Made $71 Million Last Year

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: “Safety” is the excuse, but that is nothing new.  Building inspections are also “justified” by safety, together with all the bureaucracy and permits and fees that bring in a lot of money to municipalities like Chicago – and to support corruption in almost every form.  Alternatives to government exist for ALL of these, if we will just use them.

Culture wars – Government-run, tax-funded schools
‘Boy or Girl?’ Gender a New Challenge for Schools

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: There seems to be a new story every week in various papers and media about this kind of thing:  parents who have decided (or allowed their five-year-old) to decide that five-year-old Johnnie is really “Joannie” no matter what the actual plumbing is.  And eager for fees, prestige, and power, psychiatrists and educators are eager to support the parents and make special rules for little John-Joan.  Strange, isn’t it, how for centuries this was never a significant problem (I realize that there have always been a few unfortunate people whose bodies or minds are abnormal), but only now is this a “major” problem with 1-2% of ALL students being “ungendered” or “transgendered?”  The causes are not known, but our present government and society make it more of a mess.

California: Microphone, Not Gun, Prompts Lockdown At Chaminade Prep. In West Hills

(CBSLA.com) A private San Fernando Valley high school was placed on lockdown Tuesday due to a report of a person with a gun near campus that turned out to be a student with a boom microphone. LAPD Topanga officers responded to a call from school officials at 9:30 a.m. stating the mother of a student saw a suspicious person near Chaminade College Preparatory High School, 7500 Chaminade Ave.

Mama Liberty: Job security for cops, I guess. I’m just so glad they didn’t start shooting before they discovered what he actually had. They are all on a hair trigger these days.

Nathan: I am sure the cops are pleased that they have created such a horrific climate of fear among parents.  These sorts of false alarms are taking place daily – most just don’t get reported nationally.

Libertarian News & Commentary, #13-20D: More stupid government abroad and at home

Stupid Government – European Collapse
Five Euro Note Won’t Buy You Soda

(La Republcia (Italy) The Italian daily’s reporters tried using the new “Europa series” banknotes in machines used to purchase tickets, consumer goods and other items in ten Italian cities, and discovered that the vast majority were unable to tell them from false money.

Nathan: Ah, yes, the incompetence of super-government (Dritte Reich v.2.0?) doesn’t surprise me – nor should it surprise the Europeans.  Isn’t it time to go back to being Italians and Frenchmen and Germans and so forth?

And maybe even getting back to REAL money?  God’s money?  Gold – even maybe silver?  The plain fact is that the Euro is a fiat currency, and like the dollar, the Reichsmark, the CSA dollar, the peso and peseta and so on, it will soon be to the point where a five-euro bill won’t buy a soda not because the machine can’t recognize the banknote, but because inflation means the soda costs more than five euros.  Keep in mind that in the mid 1980s a 1/3-liter Coke in a can cost 1 DM (DeutschMark) or about 25 US cents – today, that same 1/3-liter Coke costs 1.5 euros, or about 200 US cents (2 dollars).  Inflation.  The hidden tax; the destructive tax (more destructive than other taxes, that is: all taxes are destructive).

Home front – Stupid government infighting
NJ: Cop charged with firebombing captain’s home

(NBC New York) “A New Jersey police officer is accused of firebombing a police captain’s home where the captain was inside with his wife, two children and elderly mother, prosecutors said. Officer Michael A. Dotro, 36, was arrested at his home in Manalapan Thursday. He faces charges of attempted murder and aggravated arson.” (05/24/13)

Nathan: Actually, I can sympathize with the cop:  bad enough the guy steals the cop’s wife, but to steal his mother and his children, also?  I thought Jersey cops were corrupt, but apparently their firefighters are even worse!

Mama’s Note: HUH? No mention of the fire dept. or family theft in the story. Do we need a “sarcasm” warning on this one? But of COURSE they’re all nuts… they had to be to become cops in the first place.

Michelle O Wants Textbooks to ‘Swap Cupcakes for Apples’ in Math Problems

Nathan: You laugh, but you fail to appreciate the deep-seated psychological programming used in these evil math books.  Remember, math books teach that intentions and good will and self-esteem mean NOTHING, just the cruel, pedantic and hard-hearted idea that there is only ONE right answer to a problem.

The role of the “First Lady” in modern times has become a sick joke in many ways: she has her “causes” and her “bully pulpit” and immediately rises to the top 10 or top 50 in fashion and advice to whomever: selling tabloids and tramp magazines and all the rest, while “being a role model” for small-fry everywhere.  Except that she is usually NONE of these things – especially not the current one.

The “messiah’s” take: Outer space border jumpers?
Obama Meets In Oval Office With Illegal Aliens

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Well, the title fits on the front page of the National Enquirer with those stories about the secret love nest of Queen Elizabeth and the two-headed babies threatening to wipe out the alligators in the Florida swamps. Heaven forbid that a REAL newspaper would report that the guy infesting 1600 PA shows such cavalier disregard for the law.

More and more, the “messiah” starts to resemble some modern-day edition of Caligula or Nero.  His flaunting of the laws, his disdain for American customs and liberties and most Americans, his constant partying, his rank tribalism, and his insatiable hunger for more power and more control  makes Nixon’s Imperial Presidency look like some comic-operatic court of a German micro-state.

The “messiah’s” take – Islamic wars: Arab street revolts
Obama: Benghazi Terrorist Attack Was a ‘Localized’ Threat

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: No threat to any Americans except those within 1 A.U. or so, right?  And everyone knows that bodyguards are much like sand-lizards in dishrags: totally expendable.

Localized?  He may consider it a localized threat to his presidency, his regime.  But when coupled with all the other things, it may be a wee bit more serious than he thinks.  I am not holding my breath, but this perfect “trifecta” (Benghazi, IRS intimidation, and the DOJ media raids) may finally get a few people to seriously think about taking out this administration with its culture of revenge and corruption and power-madness.  Someone has even wondered if this man is liberalism’s Gorbachev.  Sadly, if he goes, though, he will be replaced by yet another Tranzi stooge or figurehead, unless the true revolutionary spirit of 1776 is revived.  And I don’t think so.

Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-20C: This and that

The “messiah” – Killing
Obama ‘Respects Inherent Dignity of Every Human Life’—When Deciding Whether to Abort Terrorists

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan:  Cute headline, and seemingly true.  Of course, the squatter at 1600 PA is not alone in this: he is one of many who are inconsistent.  Many “liberal” religious people seem to have the same mindset.  It is the misunderstanding of innocent life versus those who are a danger to others.  Right now, of course, the greater danger to American lives is NOT the terrorists, it is not even the murderous abortionists: it is the federal government and the state governments themselves.  If they really respected human life, they’d stop taking so many innocent lives themselves (at home and abroad), and bring justice to those who are aggressors and take innocent lives.

Islamic wars: British front
British PM Declines to Comment on Claims That London Attackers Were Known to MI5

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: There are many troubling aspects to this: “British subjects” of Nigerian origin, Muslim (they claim as many as 50% in London are Muslim), “youth” (like all those “Swedish youth”) and wandering around armed in a land where even knives are more and more illegal, and now this.  What the attack DOES show is that if the soldier or those passers-by who witnessed this had been armed, the 20-minute police response would have been to clean up the bodies of these two Islamist murderers, and probably the soldier would not have died.  Brits need to wake up and see what they have created for themselves.  They can expect a LOT more of this.

Mama’s Note: We can hope, but I suspect that the response will be to make knives even MORE “illegal.” That’s been the direction they’ve traveled for a long time, and the attitude of those who witnessed this insanity is not encouraging for any change just yet.

Culture wars: homosexuality
Boy Scouts Change Membership Guidelines to Allow Homosexuals

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: More on this later, but it is important to note that NO one is happy with this: many of us believe that the BSA has betrayed its principles completely.  And of course, the homo lobby is NOT satisfied: they demand ALL positions be open and that the BSA not only “tolerate” but PROMOTE their sickening lifestyle.  Let them do whatever they want, adult or youth, but keep their activities away from the families who do NOT want it, and the sponsoring organizations who have moral objections.  Once more, religious and traditional religious morals are relegated to the backseat of the bus, if not kicked off entirely yet.  You cannot have “freedom of association” of there is no possibility of refusing to associate.

Mama’s Note: Yes, this is turning out tragically for the established BSA, but I do see a silver lining possible. Those families and sponsors who refuse to support or promote homosexuality can and should leave the old BSA and form their own private clubs. The key, however, will be to completely refuse any connection with those who accept tax money or use of government facilities. I’d even go so far as to avoid using “National” or “state” parks if possible. A total divorce from government, and strict maintenance as a private club, would be the best way to avoid the problem in the future. Now we just have to see if these folks truly have the courage and strength of their convictions.

Europe’s collapse – Theft by stupid government
Spain’s new S-80 class submarines sink but won’t float

(Digital Journal)  Madrid – Just as Spain’s Ministry of Defense has seen its budget cut by some 30% as part of recent austerity measures, it turns out they have spent some $680 million on the design of a brand new S-80 class submarine. One big problem, the darn thing won’t float.

Mama’s Note: This would be very funny… if it were not for the stolen money spent on it. How sick, when the people the money was stolen from are fast headed for poverty, if not starvation. I’m sure none of them have any use for a submarine, floating or otherwise.

Nathan: Once upon a time, I believed that government could, at least, provide the necessary function of defense of a nation, a society, rights, and liberties.  This, of course, is not the FIRST stupidity of this nature done by governments, going back to Henry VIII’s Mary Rose, as I recall: a galleon which could not safely leave harbor.  Many other examples are found through history.  This is particularly ironic since the Spanish economy is collapsing right now, as Mama Liberty points out.  And since Spain has all but surrendered its sovereignty to the EU and its new Muslim invaders, you wonder why they bother?  Pride?  Welfare for corporations and workers?  Or just plain… stupid?  How the mighty have fallen.  Britain was next – and to some degree France.  Russia much more recently.  Are we next?

26-Year-Old Woman Stabbed and With a Knife to Her Throat Fights Back…with a Gun

(The Blaze)

Mama’s Note: This lady needs to learn more about situational awareness, and maybe buy a dog, but she gets full kudos for keeping her cool even after being stabbed… and pulling her gun! What a rush to think she was actually armed. I’ll bet the attacker was soiling his drawers as he fled. Now she needs to learn more about how to use that gun effectively. Wish I could work with her for a few weeks.

Nathan: We all need to learn more, but that is one reason that weapons are so important: they give us an opportunity to correct our poor awareness far more easily than being unarmed.   It again points out the need to train, as well: most people in this situation would fail to do anything – but die.

Mama’s Note: Indeed… but this story is unusual because even the best trained experts will tell you that once an attacker is that close with a knife… especially if they know how to use it and have the WILL to use it, having a gun is often not very much help. She is just very lucky he did not stab her in a vital place immediately. If he had actually cut her throat, she would not have survived even if she’d been able to draw and shoot. Very, VERY scary situation. The fact that she kept her cool and was able to effectively draw and shoot after being stabbed is simply amazing.

Red Tape Record Breakers

(WALL STREET JOURNAL/COMPETITIVE ENTERPRISE INSTITUTE) Pages in the Code of Federal Regulations hit an all-time high of 174,545 in 2012, an increase of more than 21 percent during the last decade…

Nathan: I don’t even know if it is possible to read all  of this: certainly Congress is unable to keep track of what they “authorize.”   Notice this does not include all those regulations and interpretations of regulations that are “internal” to the various government agencies.  Enough is enough!  Government continues to explosively grow, when we just need it to melt down.  Of course, the more moribund it becomes, the more unable to react, the better off we are, in the long run.  But short term we are miserable indeed. Once, it was just the tax code that was this stupid, but today…

Sebelius: ‘Expanding Access to Health Coverage Is a Responsibility Belonging Chiefly to National Governments’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Funny, funny, but perhaps she can show us just where we can find this “responsibility” in the US Constitution?  Or in any serious work on the needs of humans for government – like the Bible?  Who decided this belongs chiefly to “national governments” – or indeed, ANY government at ANY level?  There is NO justification for government to control so vital and large a segment of an economy that should of ALL sectors value personal choice.  How this woman developed this attitude growing up in a place like Kansas should worry us all.

Mama’s Note: There is no justification for any non voluntary government to control anything. There, fixed it for you.

Hoplophobes & Hoploclasts – Stupid government
New guns effectively banned in California

(offgridsurvival.com ) California has effectively banned the sale of all new guns after Attorney General Kamala Harris officially certified a law that will require all new semiautomatic handguns to use technology that stamps identifying information on bullet casings.

Nathan: The more we disarm California, in many ways, the better for the rest of us.  The good people (as well as the criminals) will ignore this sort of nonsense or move out of the state; the truly stupid or braindead will obey and perhaps get weeded out.  Meanwhile, the guns will flow in from even places like Oregon. What does California intend to do, build a wall?

(AP) Chanting “IRS has got to go,” tea party activists are rallying in Cincinnati to protest extra IRS scrutiny of their groups. Waving such signs as “internal revenge service” and some wearing Colonial-era attire, members of tea party

Nathan: Well, good for them, but seriously do they think that THIS is going to work?  Until and unless people EN MASSE start to refuse to support or kowtow to the IRS, through every possible means of peaceful resistance until in frustration and desperation the employees of the IRS resort to instigation of armed violence against peaceful people, we will see the tyranny and the fear grow and grow.  Enough is enough: END the IRS.  END the FED.

Husby riots reveal profound failure

(Aftonbladet via EuroPress) The riots that have broken out in recent days in the suburbs of Stockholm show that the many immigrants who live there have not been integrated. The fault lies with the government and the lack of political will to take action on education and employment.

Nathan: A typical liberal/Tranzi view, and completely wrong.  First, we have to point out that the majority of these “immigrants” in the “suburbs” (exterior ghettos) are Islamic, and apparently ALL of those participating in the riots: the burning of schools and stores and public buildings, the destruction of private and public property, and the attacks on others – ALL of these are Muslim.  Lack of education is a ridiculous excuse:  REAL immigrants seek out and get education in their new homeland.  The idea of unemployment being a cause shows even more stupidity.  The only reason that Sweden has so many immigrants (especially from southern European and Middle Eastern and Saharan countries) is because it was short of workers: these were guest workers.  Now, the children (and even grandchildren) of those guest workers are bums on the Swedish people’s dime.  So action on employment should consist of telling people that no longer are guest “workers” that it is time to go home – with their families.  This is NOT “action on employment.”  Nor do the Swedish people as a whole have any responsibility to educate the children of guest workers – any more than they have a responsibility to educate the children of Chinese or Indian workers who produce goods for Sweden.  The Swedish socialist dream is ending in fire and terror.

911 Dispatcher Tells Woman About To Be Sexually Assaulted There Are No Cops To Help Her Due To Budget Cuts

(CBS Seattle)  “Uh, I don’t have anybody to send out there,” the 911 dispatcher told the woman. “You know, obviously, if he comes inside the residence and assaults you, can you ask him to go away? Do you know if he’s intoxicated or anything?” The woman told the dispatcher that Bellah previously attacked her and left her hospitalized a few weeks prior to the latest incident. The dispatcher stayed on the phone with the woman for more than 10 minutes before the sexual assault took place.

Mama’s Note: Dial 9-1-1 and die, for sure.  Sadly, there is no real reason this woman couldn’t have had a gun and defended herself. The comments on this article are actually pretty encouraging. Most of them say she should have shot him.

Nathan: Of course, with waiting periods, she could not have gotten a gun anyway.  Obviously, Seattle cares more about not throwing away trash than they do about not throwing away people.  Isn’t it time people in urban areas learned how to, and were allowed to get the tools to, defend themselves?

Mama’s Note: I don’t know about the “waiting periods,” but wasn’t suggesting she go out and buy a gun just for this occasion, of course. She should have had a gun in her home, or on her person already – and be trained and ready to use it. That she did not was more a matter of her own choosing than any real legal barrier. The fact is that any home contains hundreds of things that could be used as a weapon, even if guns are simply not available. She chose not to defend herself, to be helpless… and that’s the sad thing.

Bloomberg Uses Commencement Speech to Push Gun Control, Rail Against ‘Extremist’ NRA

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Several people have pointed out that this seems to be the “marching orders” given to the Tranzi speakers for the college commencement speech season (which is, not surprisingly) dominated by the liberal/Tranzi sort of speaker.  Bash guns, bash gun-owners, bash organizations that support liberty.  Sadly, they are preaching to an audience too naive and too stupid to do anything but embrace their foolishness.  (But remember, virtually NONE of them had any chance to avoid listening to this claptrap, because their parents decided to abuse them by sending them to GRTF schools.)

HHS:’Telework’ Gives Gov’t Employees More Time for ‘Planning and Preparing Healthy Meals’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Well, I guess this would mean that a total lack of employment would REALLY give people more time to plan and prepare.  Which of course, playing right into the hands of HHS bureaucrats looking for more power and budget.  Now, how about applying this idea to GRTF school students: let THEM teleschool to have more time to plan and prepare good meals – oh, that’s right, the schools are the ones who provide good “healthy meals” for the students: parents are too stupid to do that (even if they provide their own when they telework?)  Oh, wait! Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-19D: Nanny state – Police state

A few stories from this week I meant to cover earlier!
The “messiah” – Islamic wars: Arab street revolt

Obama: State Dep’t. That Didn’t Interview Clinton ‘Investigated Every Element’ of Benghazi

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Of COURSE they did – just like they have honored every political promise that they ever made and have ALWAYS told the truth.

Corruption – the “messiah”
White House: No Comparison Between Obama and Nixon

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is a fine time for them to bring up the fact that the current resident of 1600 PA is black.  So?

Mama’s Note: It’s even more confusing since Obama is only half black, at best.

Congress in action – Theft and corruption by government
Bipartisan Congressional Demand: Provide All Communications Between IRS and WH About Targeting Conservatives

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This demand is even more of a joke than usual from Congress.  And just how many troops do they have to actually go and collect the data from the White House?

Congress in action – Stupid actions
Rep. Steve King: Gang of 8 Immigration Bill ‘Destroys the Rule of Law’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is a tad too late, Mr. King.  Rule of Law?  What is that? Some myth from a century ago?

Mama’s Note: Ah, but the “rule of law” is a complete myth, and has always served as a justification for increased state power.

See “The Myth of “The Rule of Law.”

The notion of the rule of law would only make sense if the state was an entity external to human interaction, as if it were not made up of human beings but was enforced through some natural or supernatural mechanism. But the state is quite clearly created and administered by acting human beings. It is not some sort of intrinsic mechanism of nature that functions independently of human action, or the result of the will of some deity.

African Collapse – Islamic wars: African front
Nigerian Leader Admits Parts of the Country Now Under Control of Jihadists

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This certain must be a surprise to all the people that have been killed, abused, and terrorized in those three states.

Culture wars: killing babies – Nazgul
GOP House Members on Gosnell Abortion-Murder Convictions: ‘There Are Kermit Gosnells All Over America’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This verdict is not justice, it is an opportunity for more and more babies to be killed:  a slap on the wrist for this monster.  Of course, the charges were set up this way from the git-go; it is okay to kill children INSIDE the woman, just not outside.  And do it in a clean murder chamber, okay?

Stupid government tricks – Theft by government
Interior Department Spends $472,150 to Train Fish to ‘Recognize and Avoid Predators’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Okay… This makes so much sense – if you think fish can be trained.  Bureaucrats can’t be trained (or is it, “untrained”?), but maybe you CAN train fish?  Like teaching a horse to sing?  By the way, is this recognition to be in the water or out of the water?

Stupid government tricks – Theft by government
Stimulus: $152K to Get Lesbians Ready for ‘Adoptive Parenthood’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This makes almost as much sense as the fish training.  Why would you expect someone who has exchanged the natural sexual relations for unnatural ones” to have anything resembling a normal, natural “motherly instinct?”  (Look, I am a self-governor, and if someone wants to have sex with someone of the same sex, that is their business, as long as they don’t scare animals or small children while doing it.  But I don’t have to accept it as good, right, natural, godly, or anything other than a perversion which is counter both to nature and to morals.  But I DO most strongly object when government sees it as its business to teach ANYone, lesbian or not, to be a mother, ANYone, homosexual or not, to be a father, or anything else that IS NOT A POWER THAT GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE.

Mama’s Note: So far, I’ve not found anyone who can tell me just what “power” any non-voluntary government should legitimately have.  In my book, there is none.

Theft by government – Corruption of the “messiah’s” minions
ACLJ Calls on IRS to Approve Tax-Exempt Status for 10 Tea Party Groups

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is too little, too late.  For more than a year – during an election year! – they were not tax exempt.  And they were required to submit thousands of items of data.  If elections really meant anything, this would have been devastating.  I see a lot of “libertarians” posting things on line about how none of these organizations should be tax-exempt, that they all (and churches and schools and everything else) should pay taxes.  WRONG ANSWER, people.  If you don’t like some organization or group that you hate or despise getting tax breaks, the PROPER solution is to get rid of the taxes for EVERYONE.  Just like the answer to IRS bullying and nosiness is to GET RID of the IRS.

The “messiah’s” minions – Theft by government
Holder: ‘We Are Examining the Facts to See If There Were Criminal Violations’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is another joke: the only reason this agency led by this criminal would try to determine if something was criminal would be if they were planning to do it themselves and wanted to make sure it was definitely illegal to give themselves more of a thrill.

Congress in action
Rep. King: Obamacare Is Very Bad, But Immigration Bill Is Worse

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is hard to believe. I suppose it might be better to be killed then raped, instead of raped and then killed, but is it really that significant a difference?

Mama’s Note: No difference to the dead, obviously. All legislation eventually results in less liberty and justice, and these are certainly no exception.

Home front – Stupid Tranzi words
Bill Clinton: Boston Bombers ‘Were Not as Empowered as You Are’

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is bogus, but it raises a valid point.  Elections being meaningless, what “power” do individuals (by themselves or in a group) have to control their own lives, their own society, their own government?  Actually, the two bombers made more of an impact on society (and not in a good way) than everyone else in the state of Massachusetts that day.  NOT GOOD.

World wars – search for resources
China Seeks Foothold in Arctic Group As Competition Heats Up for Region’s Resources

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is bizarre.  As is letting India, Japan, and Korea join.  I can’t, for the life of me, find a globe that shows that any of these four nations have ANY foothold in the Arctic itself.  But this isn’t about reality, just politics.  Scummy, dirty, politics.

Mama’s Note: Well, who or what has the legitimate AUTHORITY to prevent them from joining together to homestead any uninhabited area of the globe? If the area is inhabited, they will need to deal with those people. Others might offer to help in their defense in an invasion, but otherwise everyone just needs to mind their own business.

Congress in action
Reid: ‘Where Was Their Outrage When Groups on the Other Side of the Political Spectrum Were Under Attack’?

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This is so typical of Reid: he does a wonderful job of bouncing accusations back.  Sadly, too many people believe him.  And by the way, can anyone tell me just when the IRS did this to which transnational progressive, liberal, socialist, America-bashing, anti-religion groups?  Under whom?  Nixon?  Ford?  Reagan? Bush I?  Bush II?

Home front
Police Chief Asks Citizens for Ammo, Gets 1,500 Round Loan Amid Strong Response

(CNSNews.com ) As the “Great Ammunition Shortage” continues, police departments across the country are struggling to supply their arsenals. One police chief turned to the community for help, and citizens stepped up.

Nathan: Gee, maybe they could have a bake sale, and people could pay for the pies and cookies with bullets instead of little green pieces of paper.

Drug War and the Nanny State
NTSB: Get tougher on drunken driving

(Washington Post) The NTSB wants state legislatures to drop the measure from the current blood-alcohol level of .08 to .05, about that caused by a dry martini or two beers in a 160-pound person. The .08 standard could allow the same person to drive legally

Nathan: For once, Sean Hannity was right: this is about money and control.  People should be punished for what they DO and not what they “might” do in a one-size fits all nanny-police state.  Watch as Congress introduces and passes yet another bill tying highway funding to states’ passing yet another alcohol control law.

Mama’s Note: Aside from that, there’s the little problem of calibration of the devices used to measure. Most of those devices are not monitored for accuracy anyway, but .05 is well below the threshold of most of them. It is entirely possible for the device to read this level even when the person has not had ANY alcohol, and most certainly if certain foods were consumed recently. This bogus “law” will be challenged in court, and hopefully eliminated.

Buddy, Can You Spare A Dime?

Charity has always been a big part of American life, an important part, so free will giving goes on at impressive levels, even with the economy in such a mess and so many people either out of work or unable to find a job at their former pay – or anywhere near it in some cases. Those who are wise, of course, examine carefully those charities they choose to support and often must make seriously painful choices.

The forces of tyranny and destruction are targeting more and more ordinary, innocent people all over the country, and one can’t help but see at least a few pleas for financial assistance in their daily rounds of blogs and new sites. Most are asking for help with legal expenses, and a few with basic living costs. Often they’ve had their total assets seized by government as well as being incarcerated – many times without even being charged with any crime at all.

Heart breaking, a sure sign of the evil that has taken hold in this world, and often simply overwhelming when the desire to help is balanced against one’s own personal limits. Even if one could or should contribute everything they had, the need could never be met. There’s no shortage of potential victims, and all the money we can come up with doesn’t change the biggest problem.

The courts, judges, and lawyers are actually part of and answerable to the exact same system that creates these victims and destroys all of these lives – and yes, that includes all of the “defense” attorneys. They have no “standing” in court, and can’t function at all without the approval of the government “license” and their trade unions – called “bar associations“.  (And yes, I understand there are some ethical lawyers, but they are bound by the system and can only do so much.)

By what logic does anyone expect to be vindicated, let alone have their lives made whole, if they trust to the system that has damaged them in the first place? Yes indeed, there are occasional small victories, of course, but the general trend is for the “law” and courts and judges to have more and more control over the minute actions and choices of ordinary people… they have the OPTION to give or to take, which is truly fearful to any reasoning person. That they do not always choose to destroy doesn’t change the fact that they have that power, and no “constitution” or anything written on paper has any power to compel them to choose what is right.

Then there are the DEMANDS of some very well meaning bloggers, writers, and activists for those who love liberty to “write to their representatives.” The idea obviously being that these politicians simply need to be told what “we” want, and motivated by the threat of not being re-elected.

Ah, sure. I can just see it now… Diane Feinstein gets a ton of letters, calls and emails from thousands of her gun owner constituents and she smacks herself upside the head saying, “Oh, for pity sake! I didn’t know that’s what they wanted. I’ll just have to cancel all those gun control measures I’ve written.”

Worked so well when everybody and his brother voiced serious objection to “Obamacare” legislation, didn’t it?

First, those politicians do not have the same world view as those who love liberty. I can’t imagine that any of them actually see people as sovereign individuals, self owners, with natural rights to live and control their own lives and property. If they did, they would not be in politics. That seems very obvious.

Second, most of them “represent” hundreds, thousands or even millions of people. It is not possible for them to actually carry out the wants and wishes of more than a few, regardless of their intentions or worldview. The whole idea of “the people” being in control of this is ludicrous at best, regardless of how much they protest. If I write to one of them, demanding that they do so and so – and you write to them demanding the opposite… what’s a poor politician to do? He counts the numbers, measures that against his re-election chances, and then does what seems expedient or within his own agenda. And that pretty much has to be a given.

So, is writing, calling, emailing these “representatives” a rational use of time and effort?

Maybe it is time to start thinking of a different strategy…

Libertarian Commentary on the News #13-19C: Colorado, Police State of

Home front – Tyranny
Colorado applies to be drone testing ground

(9News.com) A bi-partisan letter of support signed by Gov. Hickenlooper and every member of Colorado’s congressional delegation, except Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Co) and Rep. Jared Polis (D-Co), urges the FAA to approve Colorado’s application to be the guinea pig for domestic drones.

Nathan: Ah, the wonders of being on the forefront of technology and oppressive government: even most of the so-called “conservatives” in the Colorado GOP can’t help but join in.  (Of course, ANY time you see Tranzis and liberals signing onto the same bandwagon, you just know it is a really bad idea.)  The idea that all Coloradoans welcome an even more massive intrusion of government into their lives is nonsense.  At the same time, too many Coloradoans DO welcome just that.  Not that Colorado is a spy-free state today (nor for the past five years, from personal knowledge).  Colorado state agencies have been using near-real time satellite surveillance for the last five to six years to detect things as minor as engine oil leaking from a parked truck on the back lot of a relatively small industrial site in a remote region.  If not as ubiquitous as surveillance cameras are in Boston or New York, Metro Denver has more than its share.  But the use of drones by law enforcement and other government agencies in Colorado would up the ante, and place Colorado right up there with Massachusetts, New York, and Illinois as a first-tier police state.

Home front – Hoplophiles and Self-Defense
Colorado: Nucla requires home gun ownership

(9News.com) The Nucla Town Board last week passed a new ordinance requiring that residents own firearms, but it has exceptions for heads of households who don’t want to participate or who cannot legally possess a gun.

Nathan: One of the signs of backlash by SOME Coloradoans (especially on the Western Slope and especially in the far Southwest) against the police state is this action by the tiny community of Nucla:  they realize that it is a political statement and not really something they will enforce.  Not that they really need to:  Nucla is as heavily armed as most small ranching and mining towns are.  And the crime rate is low – until you count government activities into the mix.  And it is not that far north from Dove Creek (county seat of Dolores County to the south of Nucla’s Montrose County), where the school board gave the superintendent and one of the principals the additional title (with responsibilities and a $1/year salary) of “security officer” to allow them to be armed on school grounds to prevent another Sandy Hook.  Not that Sandy Hook is likely to get repeated in Dove Creek, where the school (PK-12) is located immediately north of the County Courthouse and Sheriff’s Office, where the school is surrounded by (even by Colorado standards) heavily armed houses full of people who have to hunt (in many cases) to be able to survive a 25% unemployment and even higher “underemployment.”  And where the Sheriff had to publicly chastise a visiting federal bureaucrat and her DHS bodyguards for her fear of being attacked in a public meeting.  But the people of Southwest Colorado, especially the West Ends of Montrose and San Miguel and Dolores Counties, understand that they are in the great minority compared to the progressives of Metro Denver and their huge population of ethnic client groups: black and Hispanic and border jumpers, and the rest.  And that the predominant idea among the elite in Denver (“conservative” as well as liberal) seems to be that the Eastern Plains and the Western Slope and areas like North, Middle, and South Parks and the San Luis Valley should exist primarily as playgrounds for the Front Range: skiing and elk and other game production (or preservation, depending on whether you are a “conservative” hunter or a liberal treehugger), and perhaps to produce livestock and crops and water for the consumption of the masses on the Front Range (that stretch of urban madness stretching from Laramie and Cheyenne down through Fort Collins, Greeley, Longmont, Boulder, Denver, Castle Rock, Colorado Springs, to Pueblo).  Ultimately, as the Police State of Colorado matures, these enclaves of relative liberty like Nucla and Dove Creek will become either little Coventries or just swept away:  if relocation into strategic hamlets worked in Vietnam, then it will surely be tried in Colorado.

Hoplophiles – Self-defense – local tyranny
Colorado: Sheriff’s lawsuit against new gun laws grows

(9News.com) The right-leaning Independence Institute says 54 sheriffs are joining the lawsuit, along with other gun-rights activists who oppose the laws.

Nathan: Thanks to Debby for this one.  Remember, 9 News is part of the mainstream media: to them, a libertarian think tank is “right-leaning” and Jon Caldera is a paid-for spokesman for right-wing extremists and Big Business.  This number of 54 is up from 37 or 38 a few weeks ago, and shows some hope that the people who are SUPPOSED to be the highest law enforcement authority in their respective counties (as well as the keepers of the peace for the people) are sick of the Colorado General Assembly and a series of autocratic governors (and mayors) and their trampling on rights and liberties.  (Of course, cynically, one can point out that the Sheriffs, too often, see the state authorities as competition to their own inherent power to tyrannize people as elected quasi-dictators.)  Together with recall attempts we’ve discussed earlier, and various claims to ignore the laws which go into effect on 1 July, this is a good thing, but unlikely to succeed.  For related discussion of the really unforgivable behavior of the legislature and other powers-that-be in this Colorado gun law business, visit and read Ari Armstrong’s column.

Bogus Stories: White House Accuses Governors of Treason

Nathan: I’ve held off on commenting on this story while hoping to find some verification from other sources, especially the claim about facing arrest.  I’ve found that this is a fresh revival of a bogus story from 2010, apparently created by someone very nearly out of whole cloth.  Still, the ideas are important enough to comment on.

National security letters warn fourteen governors?
(Before Its News) Barack Hussein Obama had served 14-State Governors in the United States, National Security Letters (NSLs) warning that the Governor’s actions in attempting to form “State Defense Forces” needs to be halted “immediately” or they will face arrest for the crime of treason. The employment of NSLs was authorized by the Patriot Act introduced by George W. Bush. Contained within the section related to these letters, it is forbidden for anyone receiving a NSL warning to even acknowledge the existence of said communication. Obama is angered by the several State Governors who have reestablished “State Defense Forces.” These forces are described as: “State Defense Forces (also known as State Guards, State Military Reserves, State Militias) in the United States are military units that operate under the sole authority of a state government; they are not regulated by the National Guard Bureau nor are they part of the Army National Guard of the United States. State Defense Forces are authorized by state and federal law and are under the command of the governor of each state.

Nathan: First, let’s deal with the bogus nature of the story.  The earliest date I can find for it is an Examiner story dated 26 May 2010, by Ken Larive quoting a Dr.Lyle J. Rapacki.  He is, at least, apparently a real person.  Then I can find nothing until the 6th of May, this year: almost three years later.  Several websites suddenly picked up the story, acting as though it were new. (Example: “Before Its News” itself.  Maybe they should call it “after its news.”)  Snopes denounced it (though with poor fact checking on their own) within four days; by that time it was on dozens of sites.  A few more (EU Times, RT) also seem to have denounced it – although some trace it (incorrectly, in all likelihood) to some known fabricator of bogus stories.

It IS a compelling storyline, to those who already despise and even hate the current administration and its leadership.  But there are significant internal inconsistencies to it, and it ignores a good deal of factual evidence.  Finally, the actions attributed to the administration just do not ring true.

As Wendy and Claire have already commented, the empire is breaking up. Although not true, the way this story is being received and spreading is a strong indicator.  Fourteen states is more than a quarter of the Union: more than seceded in 1861.  People believe/want to believe that this administration is both this stupid and this vindictive.  It probably gained new life because it dovetails so well with the IRS and DOJ-AP and Benghazi scandals.

But there is NO external evidence that these NSLs even exist (and there are some serious questions about whether the venue for such a threat would be an NSL anyway).  Given the pride and political stance of the named governors, and the sending of these to fourteen, it is hard to believe that not ONE of them would have published the letters and DARED the White House to press charges of treason, let alone charges of a mere felony for revealing the NSL.

Secondly, State Guards or State Defense Forces have existed for a long time, precisely because of the risk of having National Guard units federalized and deployed overseas during a disaster or other emergency at home.  These have depended largely on (often) unpaid volunteers and very low budgets.  Third, many of the states with well-organized SDF are the most Tranzi of states: California comes to mind.  If the White House was wanting to trigger a new war between the states, this would be a singularly stupid way to do so: by arresting the likes of Moonbeam Brown and charging him with treason.

I realize I sound like a stuck record, but once more we have an example of those who are seeking to defend against the real and dangerous power and abusiveness of the administration haring off to a bogus event, damaging their credibility by repeating fairy tales with no basis in fact and not a shred of evidence.  By doing so, they damage their influence and ability to win others to their cause.  Is it not time that those who claim to love liberty and hate tyranny could ALSO learn to love (or at least practice) a modicum of skepticism and ability to research and inquire and publish the truth?

Libertarian Commentary on the News #13-19B: Schools and Institutions

Government-ruined, theft-funded schools – Stupid people
School Moms Not Happy with U.S. Public Education System

(Friedman Foundation) Sixty-one percent of K-12 school moms believe that U.S. public schools have “gotten off on the wrong track”…

Nathan: No wonder we are in such sad shape if not even 2 in 3 mothers think the “public schools” are okay.  Of course, since most mothers are themselves products of the GRTF schools…  This isn’t the only way in which we are being stupid, as the next story reports.

Theft by government – Stupid people
Unlike Boomers, Millennials Appear to Be Super Savers

(USA Today) A new survey shows that just under half of Millennials (those ages 19 to 34) indicated plans to rely on public programs for retirement, down from 63 percent of Millennials who said the same in 2011…

Nathan: Public programs, of course, depend on the government stealing the money from people in the first place.  The theft was done by fraud as well as threat of violence, of course.  For decades people were told that it was “their money” put into a trust fund called “Social Security.”  That lie was as big as AmerInd people told that their remaining land was “in trust” with the BIA so that it wouldn’t get stolen by the government or their neighbors.  How is that, again?  But about HALF of the Millennials STILL have not learned what a scam SS is?  Sure, 14 percent have supposedly learned in just two years, but…

Mama’s Note: The big problem is that most of those seniors now dependent on Social Security no longer have any other option. Even if they are healthy enough to work and save more for retirement, there are no jobs available for most of them… regardless of their talents or education. A true “catch 22” situation for millions of hard working Americans.

Theft by government
IRS Won’t Say If It Will Comply With Congressional Demand for All Communications and Names Involved in Discriminating Against Tea Party Groups

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Why should they?  First, the only purpose of this organization is to steal money – an immoral activity that taints it and everyone in it.  Second, their putative boss (the guy at 1600 PA) doesn’t respect or obey Congressional demands – so why should they?  Just one more Executive Branch agency telling Congress (and us) that we don’t have a republic any more.

First Citizen – Tyranny
Obama Hailed ‘World Press Freedom Day’ As His DOJ Was Seizing AP Phone Records

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: “War is Peace” and “Slavery is Freedom” – so what is odd about this?  Typical Tranzi hypocrisy, or just the usual debasement of the language.  If a man and a man can “marry” then press freedom is protected by seizing their records and suppressing their dissent.

The “messiah”
Obama: Republicans Won’t Work With Me Because They’re Afraid of Rush Limbaugh

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: So let me get this right.  If the man who is putatively “the most powerful man in the world” is stalled in his agenda because Limbaugh has all these fearful GOP types, then WHO is the “most powerful?”  What a joke!

Theft by government
$406.7B: Monthly Federal Tax Revenues Hit All-Time Record in April; Individual Income Taxes Up 36%

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: Isn’t inflation wonderful?  Let us ALL celebrate how much we allow government to steal from us.  Elsewhere it is reported that the deficit is down to “only” $640 billion for this year: just think, that is ONLY $2,000  for every man, woman, child, and border jumper in the US.  Just for THIS year.  Yet, despite all this wealth, we are being told that children must go without school, elders must go without food, the poor must go without shelter and heat, because only government – vast and expanded even more – can provide all these things.  I know who needs to be institutionalized, and it is NOT “American Spirit.”

Stupid headlines -Islamic wars: Canaanite front
Muslim Brotherhood Stokes Anti-Israel Sentiment: ‘Israel Is Our Enemy’
(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: This shocking headline was right there on the front page along with such other surprising stories as “Dog bites man” and “Water flows downhill” and, of course, “MY granddaughter is the sweetest child in human history.”

The “messiah” – Tranzi spirit
Obama Wants to ‘Institutionalize’ the American Spirit He Saw in Boston and West, Texas

(CNSNews.com)

Nathan: A funny choice of words.  And no doubt he is speaking the truth as he sees it.  There can be (in his worldview) no place for Americans to respond to disaster and attack and crisis EXCEPT as part of an “institution.”  And he wants to lock up the “American Spirit” in any number of institutions where it won’t bother him and his buddies:  “public schools” and insane asylums and prisons…

Congress in action – Stupid people
Mark Sanford to be sworn in Wednesday

(Washington Post) Rep.-elect Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) will be sworn in Wednesday as the new representative of South Carolina’s 1st district, his spokesman announced Tuesday. In the House chamber, Sanford will be sworn in approximately 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, spokesman Joel Sawyer said. The Republican will rejoin Congress a week after he defeated Democratic nominee Elizabeth Colbert Busch by nine points, even as he was barraged by Democratic outside spending.

Nathan: Just when you thought that the Congress couldn’t get any more despicable.  Of course, the “good people” of South Carolina have demonstrated their lack of responsibility, morality, or common sense.

Corruption in government
Texas businessman and con man Billy Sol Estes dies at 88

(UPI.com
)

Nathan: Today, most people don’t even recognize the name. The man hailed from Pecos, and he was a well-known and popular member of a conservative church, and a real rags-to-riches story even in Texas.  His corruption and trial, conviction, and imprisonment was a shock (even to a ten-year-old) at the time.  How naive we were!  The depth of his involvement and corruption, and of the government itself, is explored at Lew Rockwell, but I am thinking more about what didn’t happen in the 1960s:  ordinary people failed to take action to do something about this sort of thing, in part because they failed to recognize that government did not PREVENT these kinds of things: instead, government PROMOTED and ENABLED the commission of crimes like Estes.  And does so even more today.
