Worth fighting for?

By Nathan Barton

In 2016, in the Fifty States, or for that matter, anywhere in the world, what is really worth fighting for if we are lovers of liberty? This is something to think about as we near the supposed climax of the 2016 election for Massa (and all the other tyrants, petty and not-so-petty).

What has been considered worth fighting for in the past, by our ancestors, spiritual or actual? Gold? Glory? Honor? Liberty? Freedom? Family? Love? God? Religion? Peace? Privacy? King? Country? Society? The Proletariat? All of these have been reasons for fighting in the past – and for both killing and dying. Are any of these still valued today? And in what way do we express how we value them? Continue reading

A PS to “How stupid do they think South Dakotans are?”

By Nathan Barton

This is just a post-script to the recent commentary, to give someone credit where credit is due.

The proposal discussed in the last part of the commentary is actually a variation (and watering down) of something that L. Neil Smith first included in his novel, The Probability Broach.

L. Neil’s idea is even better: each delegate to his Continental Congress had an individual who gave him or her their proxy to vote, and when the Congress met and voted, the voting was done by the number of proxies.

This is of course a far more “democratic” way of doing things, but poses certain problems, due to the sheer number of delegates. After all, a delegate might actually represent as few as one or two people. Just the sheer number of people present starts to resemble New England town meetings. The proposal made here was an attempt to cushion the change and frankly, fit the space available in the Capitol in Pierre, and to make it more in line with tradition and therefore more acceptable. How stupid do they think South Dakotans are? (An election tale)

By Nathan Barton

In South Dakota, this election, there are several constitutional amendments being proposed. Amendment T purports to “remove politics” from the legislative redistricting process by creating a special commission. The advocates’ slogan is “The voters select their legislators, the legislators shouldn’t select their voters.” The amendment is supposed to prevent gerrymandering, ensure political fairness, treat minorities (in South Dakota, that is the Lakota, Nakota and Dakota (Sioux).) fairly, and take politics out.

But a quick reading reveals that politics is STILL going to be in the process, and indeed, the process could be even more political. Right now, a 15-member committee of the legislature’s two houses proposes the redistricting, which is then voted on by the legislature, and signed (or vetoed) by the governor: it is a law. This would be replaced by a new commission of nine members, selected and appointed by an existing board, the State of Board of Elections, which is… (guess what) appointed by the same legislators who are condemned for playing political games. How many more? Death in the Fifty States

by Nathan Barton

“Two more” law enforcement officers were killed, in Des Moines, Iowa, this week, according to SRN News, no doubt increasing cries of a “war on cops” here in the Fifty States.

But the REAL question is “how many more people will COPS kill here in in the Fifty States, this year, next year, and the year after?”

And the answer is simple, in one way: “TOO MANY!”

For example, Q13 News, as reposted by Free Thought News reports that last month two King’s County sheriff’s officers concluded a “wellness check” on a young, pregnant AmerInd woman in Washington State (a member of the Muckleshoot Nation) by killing her. Apparently because she didn’t answer the door and was wearing a gun – in her own home. They broke into the house and are now on “paid leave” while the killing is being “investigated.” Continue reading

Which Would You Choose?

By MamaLiberty

I was thinking about this “election” deal a little yesterday, and when I went to sleep last night I had a horrifying dream:

There were teams of heavy horses, each one hitched to a pulling rig. Some were black, some white, and a lot of different color blends, sizes and types.

Hundreds, thousands of cheering people stood around while the “master of ceremonies” asked me which team I wanted to “choose.” He had a hank of rope and was ready to tie me up with it. There was blood spattered everywhere, so it didn’t take me long to figure out what was going on. They were going to tear me limb from limb!

I said that I chose life, liberty and peace instead, and started to walk away… but the crowd seized me and dragged me toward the bloody center, shouting that I HAD to choose one or the other. Not choosing was impossible, “unpatriotic,” treasonous, and evil…

And then I woke up. Continue reading

Baker’s Dozen X4: Reasons to NOT Vote for…

By Nathan Barton

A Baker’s Dozen ™ Reasons to Vote Against Hillary (To NOT vote for Hillary)
1. She is corrupt.
2. She is the queen of a criminal gang.
3. She is old.
4. She is debilitated: in very poor physical health.
5. She is at least mildly demented.
6. She is mean.
7. She is a Tranzi – a transnational, left-liberal progressive.
8. She is a criminal business partner with the Wall Street crowd.
9. She is an unindicted felon whose crimes are legion.
10. She is Bill Clinton’s wife.
11. She is an attorney (or was).
12. She lies… and lies… and lies.
13. She is a warmonger. Continue reading

Misconcepts of Government

By Nathan Barton

Too much of the time, too many people operate under the misunderstanding that government can do anything. They assume that with enough money and “incentives” (carrots AND sticks – big ones!), that government(s) can do anything which they (as petitioners or supplicants, or as legislators, executives, judges and/or policy makers) tell or want government to do.

It is a mindset which even many opponents of government share: it is very much like a belief in magic. Not the Harry Potter or L. Sprague de Camp type of magic, with strict roles and rules and laws. No, it is the Walt Disney sort of magic: wave the magic wand and voila! Miracles happen. Indeed, it is an attitude that makes the State out to be God. Continue reading

Six more days… Plus

By Nathan Barton

As I write this, it is late Wednesday evening in the Four Corners, and just six more days of having to put up with the advertisements and the hype and the appeals to vote, and the tales of how important it is to vote. And the rest of the nonsense. As I’ve commented on previously, it will NOT be the end of this insane year of election process to see who gets to be Massa starting in January, although presumable most of several thousand OTHER offices on the various ballots will be resolved quickly.

But some of the foolishness WILL end, for which I am thankful. I’ve pretty much turned off the news AND the talk-shows for the last several weeks, to reduce the stress level and keep a modicum of sanity. I’ve even (so far) resisted the temptation to put out a series of four commentaries, to be entitled “A Baker’s Dozen Reasons to Vote AGAINST …” So far. The lists would be easy enough, I know. But the stress and the madness would probably not be worth it. Continue reading

How the elite thrive with terrorism

by Nathan Barton

Paul Rosenberg, in his web-zine Free-Man’s Perspective, recently published an article asking, “Could the Elite Survive without Terrorism?” and answered it “No” from the point of view that terrorists are a telegenic “enemy of the state” which justifies the existence and the power of the elites: the 1% which control most nations, especially those of the West, the FedGov, and many (if not all) of the Fifty States.

But I think he missed a very important point. Yes, the existence of Imperial Germany provided the opportunity for Wilson and House to nail the coffin shut on the dead Republic (after its death in 1913), just as the threat of Imperial Japan and National Socialist Germany fueled the last five years of Franklin Roosevelt’s incredible power-mongering and continued demolition of the last remnants of the Republic, just as fear of the growing rebellion against the war in Southeast Asia aided Tricky Dick Nixon’s expansion of federal powers, and the Massas from Truman through Bush used the threat of the Soviets to expand the police state and the military-industrial complex, so the “rise” of international terrorism (even though not branded Islamic by most of the powers that be) fueled the final transformation into the police state which we “enjoy” today. Culture wars are really wars against liberty

By Nathan Barton

This year, more than ever, Halloween has been a warm-up exercise for the annual “War against Christmas” and the usual scrubbing of truth in history for Thanksgiving.  We usually identify these as part of the culture wars being waged in the Fifty States (and elsewhere) by the Tranzis and their allies.

A number of examples can be seen at Campus Reform providing a long list of universities which cracked down on politically-incorrect Halloween costumes: essentially anything related to selected ethnic or cultural or religious minorities.  For example, Mexican, Japanese, AmerInd and Muslim costumes are vorboten. But there is no prohibition on LDS, Viking, Western (cowboy), Catholic or Orthodox, Scots or Irish or Italian costumes.  Food and drink choices are also apparently limited in some places: tacos, hummus, margaritas, fortune cookies, fried chicken, and refritos are apparently “cultural appropriation” while beer, haggis, lutefisk, vodka, pizza, uisge (whiskey), and piroskis are not.  (Some cultures are more equal and deserving of protection from being appropriated and mocked by society than others: Scots, Irish, German, Russian, Italian, New England Yankee, and Texan are all fair game.  Mexican and Japanese and Arab and Zulu and any of the AmerInd cultures are to be protected.  As is Deep South black and Ghetto.)
