Stupidity – in and out of government

By Nathan Barton

Maybe it is not appropriate to discuss this after a week in which an idiot apparently was able to outwit (or dodge around) other idiots (several of them elected officials and many more political appointees) and set off bombs which (fortunately) didn’t do anything more than wound people.

(An aside: The bombings in NYC and NJ WERE, we were assured over and over again, nothing to do with international terrorism (that is, Islamist terrorists trying to kill in the name of Allah). (Along with the “non-aligned” knifeman in Minnesota.) We were told this over and over again, until finally, we were told the opposite: they WERE Islamic terrorists, doing this in the name of Allah, but… they weren’t really connected to any international movement. Until again, after the various groups crowed over how successful they were at doing nasty things to the Great Satan (the Fifty States), it was admitted that there may be some connection with international “movements” BUT we don’t know the motive of the attacks. Right!) Continue reading

A Dummy’s Guide to Depending on Government?

By Nathan Barton

Several recent events again illustrate how really, really stupid it is to depend on government to deal with emergencies or listen to government agencies when they try to dictate what private citizens and businesses should do in a time of crisis. And the importance of being prepared.

This weekend, in addition to the supposedly “non-terrorist” bomb attacks in NYC and NJ, there was an incident in St. Cloud, Minnesota where (as reported by The Blaze) a man screaming Allahu Ackbar (and since claimed to be a soldier of the Caliphate – Islamic State) ran through a shopping mall stabbing people, until an off-duty cop shot and killed him. Dissing Snowden

by L. Reichard White

In tandem with the release of Oliver Stone’s excellent biopic “Snowden” this week, there’s also a resurgence of the effort to discredit NSA whistle-blower Edward Snowden.

I don’t need to suggest who might be interested in doing that.

Potentially the most effective trick is to suggest that Snowden and his “leaks” were some sort of psychological operation, planned and executed by the supposedly omniscient surveillance state itself. If successful, this ploy strengthens the myth of the state and discredits Snowden’s information at the same time.

However, even a cursory examination of what he leaked—and the volume—make such a claim completely ludicrous. Unless the organism is self-destructive—or there are enough honest folks left manning the monster who are on “our” side.

That would be nice, but I’m not in fiction mode right now. Continue reading

What do we call this?

By Nathan Barton

Just a few hours ago, I wrote about how a certain web-site/company (a social media site) was engaged in “cooperation” with the FedGov and playing censorship games. Behaving, in fact, like a government. This cooperation or collusion (dare I use the word “conspiracy?”) with the government is very harmful to our liberty as individuals, including threatening the God-given rights protected (supposedly) by the various articles of the Bill of Rights.

(For new readers and those who have benefited (sarcasm intended) from government-ruined, theft-funded education: no, the Constitution does NOT GRANT us these rights of free speech and keeping and bearing arms and free assembly: it merely recognized specifically certain rights each and every one of us humans (not just “Americans”) have because we are human.) Rewriting history, warping current events

By Nathan Barton

Fac3bo0k (Leet script intentional to show my contempt and concern about being censored, too) has once again demonstrated its commitment to the evils of transnational progressivism (Tranzi) and its support of the State. This time, it comes in two ways. First, as reported by Motherboard, this website [Fac3bo0k] has decided that the iconic (Pulitzer-winning, back in the days when the Pulitzer and the Nobel prizes meant something) photo of the little naked girl running down a road fleeing an attack in a Vietnamese village is child porn. And so violates their “standards.” This from a website that features an incredible amount of both soft and hard porn of the “adult variety.” Continue reading

The Strangest Fires Ever Told

by L. Reichard White

The extraordinary claim that fire was the ultimate cause of the complete progressive collapse of three skyscrapers on September 11, 2001 is the flimsy foundation upon which the Police State is being constructed. How realistic is that claim?

Ever since a B-25 hit the Empire State Building on the morning of July 28, 1945, high-rises have been designed to withstand the impact of airliners similar to the ones that hit the Twin Towers on 9/11.

The Empire State Building, hit on Sat. morning, was back in service in two days. Continue reading

People sometimes DO get it

A review of an article on God, the Founders, and Purpose of Human Government
a/k/a Baker’s Dozen ™ Reasons Human Government is Ungodly

By Nathan Barton

[Be advised: this commentary may seem to be overly religious. No apologies offered, since even non-religious people can use this information to convince their religious friends of the truth about government!]

Sometimes, people DO get it. And the sense of wonder in watching and reading as someone discovers the truth, and rejects the lies which they have been taught and taken for granted is incredibly uplifting.

For example, today this article from Apologetics Press crossed my desktop: God, the Founders, and the Purpose of Human Government by Dr. Dave Miller of AP. Continue reading

Guns and Homicides in the Fifty States

By Nathan Barton

Ryan McMaken at Mises.org recently discussed an FBI report about declining rates of homicides in the Fifty States. Despite the wave of mass killings in the last 7.5 years (while a certain squatter has been officially in DC), and despite the growing numbers of weapons on the streets, the kill rate is DROPPING. This demonstrates, as the Mises article notes, that the United States has not entered into some sort of horror-movie suicide pact and can only be saved by removing constitutional protections for the God-given right to defend ourselves with firearms and other weapons.

But there are more things to note. There are two charts, one showing that the homicides per 100,000 population have been dropping for the past 25 years and are at the lowest level since 1957: virtually my entire life! The second, though, is equally enlightening. A quick addition indicates that about 130 MILLION “new” guns (manufactured and imported) have been added to American society in the past 20 years (1994-2013). That is almost one for every 2 Americans. And FAR far different from claims that only one out of (take your pick) ten or twenty or fifty American homes have guns. Because when you consider that there were already several hundred million guns privately owned by Americans prior to 1994, there are likely at least one gun PER American found in private hands: add a couple of million in the hands of government employees and military and we are one heavily armed nation. It points out the absurdity of claiming that a state like South Dakota only has 11 guns per 1,000 residents (made on a mainstream media website a few months ago). And yes, I know that many of us have more than one gun: indeed, often large collections. But I also know how many guns just in individual families have been owned by those families for generations and are in NO ONE’s data base. Continue reading

Guest Commentary: Government and Innocent Blood

Nathan’s Note: This article is from a religious (christian) point of view, but addresses a number of very good points regarding “Government and Innocent Blood.” It was originally written 20 years ago, and has been edited somewhat for this publication, with the author’s permission.

by “P. Henry”

It hasn’t changed much, has it?

Almost 2000 years ago (shy by 14 or so years), there was a corrupt politician who permitted the execution of a man he knew to be innocent. Although responsible for dispensing justice, the official believed that an impending riot (if he did not order the Man killed) jeopardized his own position. So he justified his cowardice by staging an act of “democratic” theatre, knowing full well what the outcome would be; that the mob had been carefully chosen to demand death for the accused Man. Aware that circumstances prevented the mob (or those who had called out the mob) from carrying out the execution, the official even assisted – he provided the guard to accomplish the “judicial killing.” And he did that after symbolically washing his hands of the innocent Man’s blood.
