Latest weapons industry advocacy bill introduced in Senate

By Nathan Barton

The delightful and compassionate senior Senator for California led a cabal of dozens of Democratic senators in introducing this important bill in the US Senate this week.

According to a press release by the revered Conscript Mother, the bill is misnamed as “The Assault Weapons Ban of 2019.”

I think that the more appropriate name would be the “Weaponsmakers Promotional Act of 2019.”

Honesty, yes … but about what? And more examples of the world going bonkers.

By Nahtan Barton

As the FedGov sets a new record for government shutdowns (even though it is a very limited one), 2019 is starting out as an epic year of weirdness and frankly, insanity.

Before I provide more examples, here is the one that triggered the thought.

France – Part II

By Nathan Barton

Considering the Yellow Vest protests (even rebellion) in recent weeks, we left my journey through the history of French revolutions, rebellions, and protests in 1945, freed (by their own, not just Allied (British Empire and United States), efforts.

In 1945, France was seemingly at peace, and it seemed that the people were in charge.  Or were they? The corrupt Third Republic was dead, the various monarchists had no real power. The Fascists were being chased down, the colonies were being reorganized.  A new democracy was born.

Life is unfair – and so is death

By Nathan Barton

“Life’s unfair… and then you die,” is a saying that you don’t hear much.  Especially not in the Fifty States of the 21st Century.

Neither is another once-commonly accepted concept: you are responsible for the results of your actions.

For some reason, in going through the news on-line this morning, an old story from April 2017 popped up. The Blaze reported on a bad situation which went down in Wagoner County near Tulsa, Oklahoma, in March 2017, nearly three years ago.

France – time for another revolution? or just another rebellion?

By Nathan Barton

Since the middle of November, the streets of Paris and of other cities in La Belle France have seen weekends of protests by the “Yellow Vests,” decrying the massive fuel tax increase and other policies of the Macron government.

That continued for the ninth weekend in this first weekend of 2019, as reported by RT. This week’s protests, held in numerous cities across the nation, features much of the same things as past weeks:

  • Seemingly random destruction and vandalism by protesters (burning a floating restaurant, barricades, trash cans and cars)
  • Response by armored and armed police, using tear gas and other weapons
  • Cries for Macron and his cronies to resign
  • More cries for the elites to stop treating the common people like “beggars.”
  • Hundreds were arrested, including some for “unsanctioned” rallies.

The authorities stated that more than 50,000 people protested on the 5th.

Who owns us?

By Nathan Barton

For those of us who advocate and practice (to the best of our abilities) the principle of self-government, the answer is obvious.

Whether we are proponents, or even comfortable with, the philosophy of Ayn Rand or Harry Browne, or not. Whether we are believers in God the Creator, some other deity, or reject theism.  Whether we are of Anglo or Irish, AmerInd or Moorish, Akan or Bantu, Hmong or Korean.  Regardless of our ancestry. Whether we are dot.com millionaires or motel housekeepers, business owners or students.

As lovers of liberty, we know that we own ourselves.  Whether it is because God made us that way or the Universe and humanity evolved to make us that way.  Or because we are just too bloody-minded to be anything else.

Government shutdown – two weeks and counting

By Nathan Barton

Wow.  Two weeks now.  What a situation!

(Please tell me, honestly, has this government shutdown REALLY created any problems for you?  Really?)

I should point out that the longest government shutdown in the last fifty years was in 1995 and apparently lasted 21 days.  Here’s hoping  this one sets a new record, but let us continue to talk about now, not the future.

May you live in interesting times

By Nathan Barton

The well known Chinese curse bedevils us. The year 2018 certainly demonstrates that, for Americans and for people around the world.  Including lovers of liberty. Much of it was bad, but throughout the year, lovers of liberty have had wonderful opportunities to make ourselves more free.  Some really have.

Open rebellion?

By Nathan Barton

This news comes from New Jersey, a “blue state” with a long history of abuses and tyrannical enactments.

According to AmmoLand and World Net Daily, perhaps as many as one million residents of New Jersey have failed to turn in “high-capacity” magazines by the statutory deadline of 11th of December, 2018.  This requirement (turn-in or take out of state) is part of a law signed into law in June.
