Libertarian Commentary on the News, #13-01A: Let Freedom Ring

HAPPY NEW YEAR!  Let the bells ring out, and proclaim liberty to all the land.

Just a few stories, but lots of thoughts about them, to start out this new year!

Home front – War against crime – Stupid cop tricks
Florida pilot spots theft at own house while flying plane

(Fox News) LABELLE, Fla. –  Authorities say a Florida man flying home from North Carolina caught a man stealing a trailer while piloting his plane over his own home.

Mama’s Note: The odds are astronomical. Is this guy lucky or what?

Nathan: And the difference between this and a drone piloted by the local sheriff’s office is?

Mama’s Note: The sheriff’s drone probably wouldn’t see the theft in progress, and the sheriff’s dept. probably wouldn’t do anything about it if it did. The drones will be snooping to find us preppers, individualists and gun owners… what do they care about mere theft?

Nathan:  In other words, despite their claims to be “serving the public,” they are as self-interested as any private individual.  Indeed, if this man saw a neighbor’s trailer being stolen, he’d be more likely to do something about than the cops would, because he values his neighbor’s friendship more than the cops value anyone “under their care.”  More and more, “to serve and protect” is nothing but an excuse to exercise power over the very people they are supposed to serve.

Our right to self-defense – Stupid cop tricks
Indian bus rape: Delhi sees rush for guns

(Guardian) Hundreds of women inquire about gun licences following woman’s murder, showing the lack of faith in law enforcement. … Indian media are currently reporting incidents of sexual violence that would rarely gain attention previously. In the last 24 hours these have included a teenager fleeing repeated abuse by her brother, who was allegedly assaulted on a bus by a conductor, a 15-year-old held for 15 days by three men in a village in Uttar Pradesh and repeatedly assaulted, an 11-year-old allegedly raped by three teenagers in the north-eastern city of Guwahati and two cases of rape in the city of Amritsar. One case reported on Tuesday involved a woman, also in a village in Uttar Pradesh, who suffered 90% burns after being doused in kerosene, allegedly by a man who had been stalking her for months. … The rush for firearms will cause concern, however. Police in Delhi have received 274 requests for licences and 1,200 inquiries from women since 18 December, two days after the woman and a male friend were attacked in a bus cruising on busy roads between 9pm and 10pm. … Delhi police received around 500 applications for the whole of 2011, up from 320 the previous year. … There are estimated to be 40m guns in India, the second highest number in the world after the US. Licences are hard to obtain and most are illegal weapons, many manufactured in backstreet workshops. Official ownership levels remain low – three guns for every 100 people – but in recent years the number of women holding arms has risen.

Mama’s Note: YES!  Of course, the “license” c*** is too bad, but it sure is better than nothing.

Nathan:  I’ve been following this, and it seems to have been a turning point in Indian society, where the old British insanity of disarming the people has lingered on far too long.  In the same way, here in the US, although suppressed by the mainstream media, the Connecticut killings seem to have triggered in many people a demand to END the “hunting preserves for innocent victims” that Gun Free Zones have created.  May this quickly become thousands and tens of thousands of women seeking to protect themselves. We KNOW the cops won’t – and can’t – do it.

However, that won’t stop them from trying to prevent ordinary citizens from doing it.  As the above story points out, an unarmed society is a very DANGEROUS society, especially for women and children.  The cops, ultimately, don’t care: indeed, the MORE dangerous the society, the more secure their jobs are.  But just maybe even in India this evil cycle is being broken.

Home front – War against faith – Theft by government
Obama Administration says it can force Americans to act against their religion

(CNSNews.com) In a legal argument formally presented in federal court in the case of Hobby Lobby v. Kathleen Sebelius, the Obama administration is claiming that the First Amendment—which expressly denies the government the authority to prohibit the “free exercise” of religion—nonetheless allows it to force Christians to directly violate their religious beliefs even on a matter that involves the life and death of innocent human beings. …

The first argument the administration makes against the owners of Hobby Lobby is that Americans lose their First Amendment right to freely exercise their religion when they form a corporation and engage in commerce. A person’s Christianity, the administration argues, cannot be carried out through activities he engages in through an incorporated business.  …

The second argument the administration makes to justify forcing Christians to act against their faith is more sweeping. Here the administration argues it can force a person to act against his religion so long as the coercion is done under the authority of a law that is neutral and generally applicable—in other words, as long as the law was not written specifically to persecute Christians as Christians, the government can use that law to persecute Christians.

Nathan: If this standard is accepted and applied across the board, the religious liberty of the past several hundred years is a dead letter.  Indeed, the stage is cleared for full Roman-style persecution.  For example, the mandated act of offering a sacrifice to the “divinity” of the emperor was not published “specifically to persecute Christians” but to ensure loyalty to the emperor, so the Congress could enact a similar law and use that law to punish Christians.  How convenient.  And if a family corporation (S or C) is organized to protect the family’s property and reduce liability – or even a partnership, limited liability company or any other form of organization, those people who are the “owners” or “employees” have NO rights protected by the Constitution when they are acting on behalf of the organization or as owners/employees of that organization:  no right to free speech, no right to religious expression, no right to bail or trial by jury, no right of habeas corpus, indeed, no rights at all.

Of course, this would really matter a lot more if we HAD a Constitution that was actually in effect, and if we HAD a government (governments) constrained by it.  But the Supreme Court in essence proclaimed the Constitution dead in their decision on the Abominable Act (ObummerCare) some time ago.  So all that Hobby Lobby does is provide a graphic example and warning to anyone else of what will happen if we dare to revolt, however mildly.  I applaud Hobby Lobby’s efforts, as stated in the next story.

Hobby Lobby says it will defy Obama
(Vision to America) This week Hobby Lobby announced it will defy the Obama HHS mandate and risk potential fines of up to $1.3 million per day. Life News reported:

Following a decision by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor denying Hobby Lobby’s request for an exemption from the Obama administration’s HHS mandate, the Christian retail company said it will defy the mandate.

Nathan: So much for the “Wise Latina Woman” routine, eh?  As I said, I applaud their effort, but believe that the only thing that will happen is that Hobby Lobby will be destroyed by the government in order to make an example of them for the encouragement of the rest of business.

Mama’s Note: Small business, at least outside the underground economy, is a rapidly vanishing thing anyway. I don’t see any reason why religion should make a difference. Theft and coercion are evil, regardless of religious convictions or affiliation.

The Big Lie (Mainstream Media) – Theft by government
Most will face a rare tax increase with or without ‘fiscal cliff’ resolution

(Washington Post) Americans will face a broad increase in taxes Tuesday for the first time in at least two decades, ending a prolonged period of declining taxation that has become a defining characteristic of the U.S. economy.

The idea that Americans have been paying less in taxes for two decades is such an incredible lie that the mind boggles, but millions of people apparently sincerely “believe” this.  The WaPo has a vested interest in having taxes increase, and in lying about taxes “going down.”

Mama’s Note: Which, of course, avoids the whole issue of any tax being outright theft to begin with. Theft is theft, regardless of the amount – or the victim.

Stupid government – Theft by government
Canada to give grants to parents of murdered, missing children

(Digital Journal) Ottawa – On Sunday it was announced that parents of missing and murdered children will be able to apply for income support, allowing them to take time from work. The program begins on Jan. 1.

Mama’s Note: Instead of leaving people alone to actually protect themselves and their children…

Nathan: IF this were the government’s business, it would make more sense to do things like reduce taxes so that the parents would be able to spend more time with their children and still make a living: preventing the problem, instead of a Band-Aid approach after the harm is done.

But none of this will matter: instead, yet another class of people will be indebted to the government.  And the bureaucrats will have more control over that many more people.

And of course, as Mama Liberty suggests, we should note that if Canadian families still had the right to defend themselves, there might not be so many murdered and missing children.  Canada should realize that India’s lesson applies to it.

EPA’s CO2 Regulations are NOT Based on Sound Science

This is a very long and complex essay, but contains much that we need to understand if we are to discuss climate change rationally. I urge everyone to post this link to every forum and social network possible.

An open letter challenging the EPA on CO2 regulation
(From:
Watts Up With That?)

The Supreme Court, in Mass v. EPA, stated that the EPA must treat CO2 and other Greenhouse Gases (GHGs), as “pollutants” and then carryout an analysis to determine whether the increasing concentrations in atmospheric CO2 may reasonably be anticipated to endanger human health and welfare. The Court did not mandate regulation; rather it mandated that EPA go through an Endangerment Finding process.

EPA did so and on December 15, 2009 issued its ruling that CO2 and other GHGs must be regulated. This EPA finding and associated rulings were immediately challenged in the DC Circuit Court. The DC Circuit ruled in favor of EPA, but given the two dissents from the December 20, 2012 decision denying rehearing en banc, the matter will very likely go to the Supreme Court.

If allowed to stand, the very existence of EPA’s Endangerment Finding requires regulation that significantly increases U.S. fossil fuel and electricity prices–negatively impacting job creation as well as energy, economic and national security.

Theft by government
Social Security Ran $47.8B Deficit in FY 2012; Disabled Workers Hit New Record in December: 8,827,795

(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Ah, do you smell the definite smell of a burned-out credit card? And perhaps overheated printing presses? It is a psychic smell, of course – but the stench is evident.

Home Front
ICE Scraps 287(g) Program That Allowed Local Police to Enforce Immigration Law

(CNS News.com)

Nathan: “Allowed?” What a quaint term. Can you find ANYTHING in the Constitution that says that “immigration law” is to be decided OR administered (enforced) by the Federal government? Seems like the only thing that states need to enforce immigration law is the Tenth Amendment.

Culture wars – Government-run, tax-funded schools
Free Condoms for Students at 22 Philly High Schools

(CNS News.com)

Nathan: What? No free birth-control pills? No free Kleenex? No free nasal spray? No free IUDs? What kind of selfish people are these school administrators? What do you expect out of a public school?

Islamic wars: Arab street revolt
State Dep’t Avoids Direct Criticism of Egypt’s New Islamist Constitution

(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Of course – they are too busy criticizing various private American citizens. No time for this, is there?

Home front
ICE Audits Record Number of Companies for Illegal Immigrants on Payrolls

(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Ah, yes, didn’t the “messiah” make some promise about immigration reform? I guess the border jumpers didn’t contribute as much to the campaign coffers and voting totals as he thought they should.

World wars
More Christians Killed As Pope Decries ‘Savage Acts of Terrorism’ in Nigeria

(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Of course more christians are being killed. After all, how many battalions does the Pope have? And those people in Nigeria are just expressing their frustration and concern about the failure of the West to stop allowing missionaries and GM foods and other such evils from being exported to Nigeria.

Our right to defend ourselves
Nadler: ‘The State Ought to Have a Monopoly on Legitimate Violence’
(CNSNews.com) Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said only the federal government should have “high-capacity” gun magazines and that the “state ought to have a monopoly on legitimate violence.”

Nathan: So that the REAL massacres can begin, like they did in Turkey and Russia and Germany, of course. He would make self-defense illegal – a crime to defend yourself, like they have in the UK. Somehow, I suspect that TSA or DEA or BATFE already has Nadler on their list for the “protective” relocation camps.

Home front stupid people
Arne Duncan: ‘We Have Common Values That Go Far Beyond the Constitutional Right to Bear Arms’
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Of course we do, but (first) this isn’t a “constitutional right” but a GOD-given right that EVERY human on earth has, and (second) it is that right of defense against aggression and those who would steal our other rights and pervert our common values that Duncan and others want to pervert and steal.

Mama’s Note: The major reason these controllers wish to take our guns is so they can do things to us we wouldn’t allow if we had guns…

Home front stupid people

Michael Moore: ‘Calm Down, White People, and Put Away Your Guns’
(CNS News.com)
Nathan: Oh, of course, as a “person of color” Moore can make comments like these. Not that he has ever exhibited a whole lot of calm as an example. I am sure he is pleased at the timing of all this coming to a head near the end of the year.

Mama’s Note: A “person of color?” The only color I see on Moor is YELLOW – as in gut wrenching coward.

Theft by government
‘Jobless Workers’ Getting More Taxpayer Money to Pay Their Health Insurance Premiums
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Taxpayers’ money? Really? Taxpayers of the future, maybe, but all this spending isn’t being supported by taxes, now or next year, even if ALL the Bush tax-cuts are repealed. Borrowing, yes. But what we should really note is WHO this money is going to: allies of Congress or even directly to Senators and Representatives: one more pipeline of immoral funding.

Nazgul – Freedom of Religion
Supreme Court Refuses Emergency Request to Block Obama Contraception Mandate
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Sotomeyer and her fellow Nazguli are making it clear: There are no more enforceable rights such as freedom of religion.

Congress in action – Culture wars: killing babies

Congress Expands Abortion Coverage for Women in U.S. Military
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Yes, taxpayer and borrowed dollars at work – killing babies without using drones. Used to be that medical personnel were or could be noncombatant, non-killers No more.

Theft by government

Geithner: Debt Limit of $16.39 Trillion Will Be Met New Year’s Eve
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Congress is of course very unlikely to agree on ANYthing, much less a debt ceiling increase. Never mind the bogus fiscal cliff of tax increases: OPM is again screaming in panic about “unscheduled vacations” and supposedly federal employees are worried about their “missions.” Frankly, we could all stand for not having a federal government around – we might figure out that we can take care of ourselves.

Theft by government
U.S. Treasury, Trying to Duck Borrowing Limit, Will Stop Investing in Gov’t Retirement Funds
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: I don’t pretend to understand what this means: it appears that the debt limit (itself a dubious fiction) may be dodged by pulling IOUs out of one pocket and shoving it into another pocket – or perhaps putting it into their shoes. So, suddenly federal retirees may have to face the same thing that many private sector retirees have: the money they were promised isn’t there. Oh, dear. Didn’t see that coming, eh?

Home front
Gallup: Americans 77% Christian, 0.6% Muslim
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: For what we can believe from the polls, and from round population numbers, that means we have about 2 million Muslims in the US. I suspect we have more Wiccans and Odinists; certainly more believers in the old Celtic religions. So why not more postage stamps and accommodations for these religionists? They don’t pass fatwas and run around with suicide-murder bomb vests.

Stupid government
Long Lines, As Los Angeles Holds Groceries-for-Guns Exchange
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: After government stupidity allows 20 children to be killed in a hunting preserve like Sandy Hook, of course it is very important to create and maintain a state of collective guilt, which combined with the hyped fears of a “fiscal cliff” for us to be led lemming-like, so that these sort of PR stunts can get maximum hype.

Mama’s Note: From what I hear, most of those guns were junk. You don’t think the gangs are turning in their good stuff, do you? I’m sure they have a very good stash of crap to give the cops in exchange for whatever they’re offering. And if they run out of that junk, they can always steal more. Such a DEAL.

Russo-American issues
Even Some Russians Oppose New Law Banning Americans From Adopting Russian Children
(CNS News.com)

Nathan: Duh. Supposedly Russia is a republic, so why should it come as a surprise to find that not all Russians agree? On this or anything else? It does always disturb me when we see large numbers of children being in essence sold – not as slaves but as adoptees – outside their native land. It happens right here in the US, with AmerInd children. As a libertarian, I suppose I should be concerned that government is dictating this: but in reality, government was already dictating that many of these children be put up for adoption, so the status quo has not changed very much. It wasn’t the parents who could decide in the past and it won’t be now.

Libertarian Commentary on the News #12-53A: Killing and guns and lies

This week the beginning-of-winter doldrums continues in the news:  it seems that 80% of the stories have to do with the Sandy Hook killings and the “fiscal cliff” – both of which seem to be perfect examples of politicians and the mainstream media lying their lips off and screaming in false panic in order to get the nation to stampede over the cliff to the waves below.  But as a result, a LOT of interesting things are cropping up.

Over at  Townhall there is a great review on Banning Guns with all kinds of fascinating links, like this one:

Maybe the US Isn’t As Violent As We Think…
Maybe the US isn’t as violent as we think?

(Electecon.net via Townhall) Does the US really have fewer violent crimes per capita than the UK, Austria, Belgium, Holland, and even Sweden? Data reported in the Telegraph say it does (h/t Tom Hanna): [V]iolent crime in the UK … increased from 652,974 offences in 1998 to more than 1.15 million crimes in 2007. It means there are over 2,000 crimes recorded per 100,000 population in the UK, making it the most violent place in Europe. Austria is second, with a rate of 1,677 per 100,000 people, followed by Sweden, Belgium, Finland and Holland. By comparison, America has an estimated rate of 466 violent crimes per 100,000 population.

Now, knowing the history of America, for a good thousand-years plus, it has never bothered me – nor have I ever questioned – that the United States is a more violent society.  Not only is our foundational culture strongly Celtic (always a violent race of people, going back at least 2500 years), but for the last 500+ years, we have accepted and assimilated the malcontents of the other six continents: the mixing of cultures is expected to be often violent and with a good deal of rancor and resentment – the same reason that the UK’s four (or more) nations have been so violent as well.  But it seems that I was wrong, at least according to the Daily Telegraph (admittedly a conservative paper but somewhat reliable when it comes to data).  The UK is FOUR times more violent than the US?  Okay, that I can see some reason for, especially in recent years when guns have been “banned” and so the criminal element has less reason to restrain themselves.  But Austria:  dear, monocultural, civilized, landlocked, peaceful AUSTRIA is still THREE times more violent than the US?

Well, there IS always Canada.  There is ALWAYS Canada: the kinder, gentler, weaker, younger kid sister of the US: the one who didn’t go prodigal son, and who has since had a sex change operation.  And low and behold, the folks at Townhall had ANOTHER story, from an excellent blog: Political Calculations Canada, it seems, is MORE violent than the US:  they don’t kill as many folks, but not for lack of trying:  violent crimes: 770 per  100,000 population in Canada versus 535 per 100,000 in the US.  Canadian intentional homicides are 1.6 per 100,000 against the US 4.2 per 100,000.  (Mexico is 22.7, and Nordic Greenland is 19.2 – even that wonderful peaceful land of Costa Rico is 10.)  Apparently, Canadians just aren’t very good at killing each other, but they try a lot more than we do.

Indeed, when we look at overall homicides, the US is WAY down the list.  In fact, its 4.2 is way below the world average of 6.9.  So much for that garbage spewed by the hoploclasts about the US being so murderous – at least at home.

Same thing when we look at crime in general: at a website, World’s Highest Crime Rates, it seems that the US is the worst, but it turns out they have the title wrong: the numbers are total crimes reported, not “crime rates” (usually, as above, done as X per 100,000) – in other words, they are using the statistics to LIE to show the US as bad.  Yes, we had nearly 12 million crimes reported, but we have a population of over 300 million (World’s Most Populous Nations) , but the UK and Germany each had about 6.5 million crimes, with only 63 and 81 million people respectively:  in other words, the US has a crime rate about half that of Germany and only 40% that of the UK.  (And yes, Canada’s crime rate is about 75% higher than that of the US.  I don’t know how many of those crimes are printing Bible verses that condemn homosexuality or making sexist jokes, of course.)

Gee, you don’t suppose – if our society is not as crime-ridden and violent and murderous as people want us to believe – what is the cause of that?

And why do you suppose the hoplophobes and hoploclasts and politicians (of both old political parties) are lying about it?

Larry Correia’s JPFO Article: When it IS time to shoot…

A good many TPOL readers have hopefully read and benefited from Larry’s five-part article at the JPFO website, which begins here: “An opinion on gun control – Part 1” Larry is an excellent fiction writer with a personal history that reminds me of Heinlein’s and L’Amour’s;  he may not test out as high as a libertarian as I wish, but he still has a lot of common sense and knowledge about weapons, fighting, and people.

His discussion on this part interested me quite a bit.  My comments are italic:

“So let’s talk about confiscation.

“They say that there are 80 million gun owners in America. I personally think that number is low for a few reasons. The majority of gun owners I know, when contacted for a phone survey and asked if they own guns, will become suspicious and simply lie. Those of us who don’t want to end like England or Australia will say that we lost all of our guns in a freak canoe accident.

Nathan:  Well, his numbers seem low to me, as well.  Then, maybe low numbers are best to use to calculate as he does.  And because we don’t want to scare and panic the hoplophobes and hoploclasts into a premature revolution.

“Guns do not really wear out. I have perfectly functioning guns from WWI, and I’ve got friends who have still useable firearms from the 1800s. Plus we’ve been building more of them this entire time. There are more guns than there are people in America, and some of us have enough to arm our entire neighborhood.

I understand the estimated quantity is 340 million, and again, think that this number is low.  Although he doesn’t touch on it, I do not see how anyone can ban manufacturing guns using 3-d printers – not that there are not thousands of shops with the ability to make weapons.  I don’t know what he exactly means by “entire neighborhood,” but I know there are people who can arm at least a platoon; a LOT more that can arm a squad.

But for the sake of math, let’s say that there are only 80 million gun owners, and let’s say that the government decides to round up all those pesky guns once and for all. Let’s be generous and say that 90% of the gun owners don’t really believe in the 2nd Amendment, and their guns are just for duck hunting. Which is what politicians keep telling us, but is actually rather hilarious when you think about how the most commonly sold guns in America are the same detachable magazine semiautomatic rifles I talked about earlier.

Although he is saying 90%, I fear that it will be more like 95% that will roll over.

So ten percent refuse to turn their guns in. That is 8 million instantaneous felons. Let’s say that 90% of them are not wanting to comply out of sheer stubbornness. Let’s be super generous and say that 90% of them would still just roll over and turn their guns when pressed or legally threatened. That leaves 800,000 Americans who are not turning their guns in, no matter what. To put that in perspective there are only about 700,000 police officers in the whole country.

I guess I can agree with this reduction.  This 800,000 sounds about right, although depending on the conditions and exact circumstances, the number could be as high as 3,000,000 (1%).  But as he discusses below, some of these 800,000 include at least SOME of the cops.

Let’s say that these hypothetical 10% of 10% are willing to actually fight to keep their guns. Even if my hypothetical estimate of 800,000 gun nuts willing to fight for their guns is correct, it is still 97% higher than the number of insurgents we faced at any one time in Iraq, a country about the size of Texas.

The comparison is not that good, in my opinion:  the average insurgent in Iraq was used to a far more austere style of living, and more committed to their cause.  And they were in a population that was, at least neutral.  Here, I think that too many of the population (not even a large minority, but enough) would be willing to support a war of extermination against gun owners.

However, I do honestly believe that it would be much bigger than 10%. Once the confiscations turned violent, then it would push many otherwise peaceful people over the edge. I saw somebody on Twitter post about how the 2nd Amendment is stupid because my stupid assault rifles are useless against drones … That person has obviously never worked with the people who build the drones, fly the drones, and service the drones. I have. Where to you think the majority of the US military falls on the political spectrum exactly? There’s a reason Mitt Romney won the military vote by over 40 points, and it wasn’t because of his hair.

He is saying MORE than thirty million?  I just don’t know.  In many states, yes – but would Wyoming go as high as 20 or 25% to offset Massachusetts or Maryland  with their 1%?  As for military, I realize he is simplifying things.  We have several things here regarding drones.

(1)  It only takes 1 or 2 people in a squadron to render the OR rate of the drones to zero.  But that is a brute force approach, and would quickly lead to purges and arrests, even executions.

(2)  More likely would be a really significant decline in efficiency, of not being able to find targets or flying on the margins of the envelope to cause more aircraft losses by crashes or making the UAVs too vulnerable to ground fire.

(3)  Even more likely might be “lost” aircraft falling into insurgent hands, or even entire equipment sets disappearing.

(4) The number of “blue-on-blue” attacks would also be very likely to climb

The question would be how many people in the military simply resign immediately when the military starts fighting this domestic war, versus those who stay in with the intent of degrading the operations and seeking to pull more people with them when they resign.  I still fear that this will not be as high a number as he thinks: 10-20%  Too many are products of the degraded and contaminated training and environment of the last two decades.

It is the same thing with the population as a whole:  I think a lot of people will play ostrich and hope it all blows over.  And a lot more people will hunker down (and bunker up) and wait for things to settle down.

And as for those 700,000 cops, how many of them would side with the gun owners? All the gun nuts, that’s for sure. As much as some people like to complain about the gun culture, many of the people you hire to protect you, and darn near all of them who can shoot well, belong to that gun culture. And as I hear people complain about the gun industry, like it is some nebulous, faceless, all powerful corporate thing which hungers for war and anarchy, I just have to laugh, because the gun industry probably has the highest percentage of former cops and former military of any industry in the country. My being a civilian was odd in the circles I worked in. The men and women you pay to protect you have honor and integrity, and they will fight for what they believe in.

He does not take into account that you can be a gun nut and STILL be a tyrannical, statist monster.  Much as I wish, the percentage of cops would be even less than military: 5-10%.  And I DO hope that my brothers and sisters in arms WILL take the honorable route of standing up for liberty and for what we were taught the Constitution meant, and NOT roll over the way, say, the Wehrmacht did in 1933-45.  But I am not so optimistic as Larry, I fear.

So the real question the anti-gun, ban and confiscate, crowd should be asking themselves is this, how many of your fellow Americans are you willing to have killed in order to bring about your utopian vision of the future?”

The hoploclasts DON’T CARE how many they kill.  The stupid ones are going to refuse to think that anyone will be killed except those that are “really bad, evil people,” and the smart ones figure that they can use this as an excuse to kill all they want figuring that you can’t make an omelet without breaking eggs.  After all, they are willing to condemn millions to die around the world; what matters a couple or five or ten million here?

Or even 30 million:  after all the Russians, the Chinese, the Cambodians – even the Nazis! were willing to shed 10% of the population to achieve their goals. Even France was willing to kill off 4% of its population in the Revolution (1 million of an estimated 4 million in combat deaths and executions).  I can well imagine the Tranzis willing to kill three to twelve million of us: especially given their environist posturings.  After all, nits make lice.

Repeal of the Second Amendment would not Abolish any Right

By Robert Greenslade
© Nitwit Press

Following the recent school shooting in Connecticut, American citizens have once again displayed their total ignorance concerning the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the Second Amendment. Facebook postings, comments to so-called news articles and letters to the editor are calling for repeal of the Second Amendment. These individuals believe the right to own a firearm is based on the Second Amendment and the right will vanish if the Amendment can be repealed. Unless the Second Amendment created the right, then repeal of the Amendment cannot constitutionally abolish the right.

Following the Federal [Constitutional] Convention of 1787 and the subsequent ratification of the Constitution in 1788, the several States began submitting amendments to Congress for consideration. By September of 1789, Congress had reduced approximately 210 separate amendments to 12. The amendments were inserted into a congressional resolution and submitted to the several States for consideration. Of these, numbers 2-12 were ratified by the States in 1791 and became the so-called Bill of Rights.

A little known fact about this resolution is that it contained a preamble declaring the purpose of the proposed amendments. Most modern editions of the Bill of Rights either do not contain the preamble or only include the last paragraph. The most important paragraph is the first one because it discloses the intent of the proposed amendments.

A review of this paragraph shows that the sole purpose of the proposed amendments was to prevent the federal government from “misconstruing or abusing its powers.” To accomplish this, “further declaratory and restrictive clauses” were being proposed. The amendments, if adopted, would place additional restraints or limitations on the powers of the federal government to prevent that government from usurping its constitutional powers. Every clause of the Bill of Rights, without exception, is either a declaratory statement or a restrictive provision.

If the Bill of Rights had granted rights, then the word “granted” would have to appear each and every time a right was being established. A review of the Bill of Rights shows that the word “granted” does not appear in any Amendment.

In reality, the Bill of Rights placed additional or secondary restraints on the powers of the federal government concerning the rights of the people and powers reserved to the States. That is why the words “no,” “not” and “nor” appear throughout the Amendments instead of the word “granted.”

Since the Second Amendment did not create or grant any right concerning firearms, the right enumerated in the Amendment has to be an existing right separate from the Amendment. Thus, repealing the Second Amendment would not eliminate any right because the right enumerated in the Amendment was not created by the Amendment. The right to keep and bear arms exists independent of the Constitution or the Second Amendment.

In order to help explain this constitutional principle, I reluctantly decided to reference a United States Supreme Court case from 1875. Normally, I would not cite a court case to support a constitutional principle because too many opinions do not reflect the true intent of the Framers. However, I decided to make an exception because this decision states this constitutional principle clearly and concisely and has never been overturned.

In the case of United States v Cruikshank, the United States Supreme Court held that the rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights were not granted by the Amendments and are not dependent upon the Constitution for their existence. The Court also ruled that the Amendments were restraints on the powers of the federal government and it is the duty of States to secure the individual rights of the American people.

One of the most definitive and succinct interpretations of the Second Amendment is found in the Court’s second holding:

“The right there specified is that of ‘bearing arms for a lawful purpose.’ This is not a right granted by the Constitution. Neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence. The Second Amendment declares that it shall not be infringed: but this, as has been seen, means no more than that it shall not be infringed by Congress. This is one of the amendments that has no other effect than to restrict the powers of the National [Federal] Government…”

The Second Amendment did not create or grant any right to keep and bear arms. It placed an additional restraint on the powers of the federal government concerning the existing right to keep and bear arms. Thus, all a repeal could do, from a federal standpoint, is remove the secondary restraint imposed on federal power by the Amendment. And since many States have a right to keep and bear arms clause in their constitution, separate and apart from the Federal Constitution or the Second Amendment, the existence or non-existence of the Second Amendment would not affect the right because the federal government was not granted and does not have the general power to abolish a natural or individual right secured by a State Constitution.

Note: There is a school of thought that the Fourteenth Amendment made, through a doctrine known as incorporation, the Second Amendment applicable to the individual States. Since the Second Amendment did not create a right, then repeal of the Amendment could not abolish the right in the individual States through the Fourteenth Amendment.

Safety For Whom?

How does making me helpless keep anyone else safe?

Unless you plan to attack me, of course. You weren’t planning to attack me, were you?

Libertarian Commentary on the News #12-52C: Home front

Do we all see the effects of laws and government trying to do what is impossible, given our collapsing society, increased immorality, and other failings?  Sadly, too many people are blinded to the truth, and scream for what is not possible.

Men and women can be and often are evil.  Laws do not stop crime, they often do not even punish crime.  And all too often attempts by “society” (that is, government pretending to be God) backfire.  We have seen this in Connecticut, and probably in Utah, Oregon, South Dakota and other places in the last two weeks. This is worth pondering:

Blame the Drugs, not the Guns
(Godfather Politics) Dr, David Healy, founder of RISK.org, spends much of his time researching and reporting on prescription drugs.  In his research, Healy has found that nearly 90% of the school and other mass shootings in the past couple decades, were carried out by someone who was taking some form of psychotic drugs or anti-depressant.  These drugs are known to alter a person’s personality and can make them become violent.

It has been reported that Lanza was taking prescription drugs for a personality disorder, but what drugs he was taking has not been released yet.  If shown that he was taking drugs that fit into the category Healy is referring to, then it is very possible that they may be partially to blame for his actions.  Healy also says that we should not be comfortable with knowing that 90% of school shootings involved these personality altering drugs.

Nathan: Debby first pointed this out, last weekend, noting that this “coincidence” dates back to at least Columbine (a bad event in our family’s history, unrelated to the school killings and suicides: her mother died that day just a few miles away).  We have been aware of the dangerous nature of many “antipsychotic” and mind-altering drugs, such as Ritalin (in essence just a prescription and somewhat purer form of meth).  We have been involved in fights on that and the impact on children, even those who do NOT go truly off the deep end and kill or suicide or both.  Many people have now noted this.

Perhaps this is the actual way that we have to deal with a “Zombie Invasion.”  Is that the reason that DHS is also going off the deep end – or are they just too drugged-up?

DHS: Ammo and more ammo, for what?
(Freedom Outpost) Click here for a list of ALL the ammunition purchases since 2009. For a grand total now of 1,140,618,530 or 1.1 BILLION rounds… for 50,000 employees of DHS.

Nathan: Hmmm.  That is a LOT of fun range time.  What next?  Maybe we all ought to be buying more ammo.  Freedom Outpost thinks it is gearing up for a civil war, but if that is the case, ain’t nearly enough: if one in ten Americans each buys 2 boxes of 9-mm (100 rounds), that is 3,000,000,000 rounds: 3 billion.  Those of us who like Cheaper Than Dirt or Cabelas or Bass Pro Shops and buy 1,000 at a time are outliers; still it adds up.  Throw in a few billion .22-cal rounds and a couple of hundred million 7.62/.30-cal and 5.56/.223-cal and keep in mind that people who buy their own ammo (instead of having their employer – even Uncle Sam do it) are generally better shots than the “public forces” like the 137 rounds 13 cops fired to kill a couple in Ohio (under suspect circumstances) a few days ago.  But even if it takes 100 rounds per DHS employee, that only requires 5,000,000 rounds.  So maybe they SHOULD be worried that they don’t have enough.  After all, they can’t all be as good at killing as the next story relates:

Home front – Stupid people
South Dakota: Pierre teen dead in shotgun shooting

We can’t and don’t know the details, but given recent events and the analysis, I will not be surprised if the guy was on a drug regime to keep him “sane.”  Was that also the problem with Helleson (or is “Hell’s Daughter” a more appropriate name?) in the next story?

Texas – Stupid cop tricks
Texas Cops sued over on-highway body cavity search

(Freedom Outpost/Dallas Morning News) According to Dallas Morning News and Texas Trooper Dash Cam, Texas trooper Kelley Helleson is suspended with pay pending an investigation into a roadside cavity search on two women. Using the same glove, trooper Helleson allegedly entered first the anus, and then the vagina (a HUGE no-no for any woman trained in health care or personal hygiene) of two women after a routine traffic stop.

Nathan: Gross and disgusting, and nothing less than rape – public rape.  Texas can do some good things, and it allows people to do some very STUPID things.  A necktie party should have taken place the next day, starting with the two jack-booted thugs (yes, ESPECIALLY the woman) and continuing up the chain of command to the Director of Public Safety.  And the Rangers should have led the party.

Perhaps it is a lack of trust in cops due to nasty things like this one that caused the results of this national poll in the next story:

National Poll:  Weapons ban not most effective in preventing school shootings
A recent poll
conducted by Gallup shows that more Americans believe that several things would be more effective at preventing mass shootings at schools than a weapons ban, including having at least one school official carrying a firearm.

Nathan:  Blinded as people are in their belief in laws and government, this is quite a surprise.  And must anger the hoploclasts and other Tranzis, as they are seizing this opportunity to strike down liberty and self-defense once and for all.  The media is FILLED with screams of how people are changing their mind.  This poll shows that ain’t necessarily so.

The entire situation vis-a-vis guns and the hoploclasts (gun-haters) and hoplophobes (gun-fearers) is going to remain in transition for a long, long time.  If you are still searching for that last minute gift, let me suggest a few:

(a) More ammo – ammo prices are actually down right now from highs the past several years.

(b)  A new weapon – especially battle rifles and “assault” rifles.

(c)  New magazines for existing weapons, especially larger-capacity.

(d)  Training – new or refresher, on every weapon they have, especially defensive handgun use.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Libertarian Commentary on the News #12-52B: Funny-stupid and more guns

Nathan: This week has not been a good one, nationally.  The nation, here a few days before Christmas, has found another issue to tear itself apart.  The Congress and White House continue to play stupid PR games about “fiscal cliffs” and Europe continues to mess around and crumble.  Japan and China are squaring off, North Korea is undoubtedly getting another nuke ready, Muslims are killing Muslims at a rate which should make us all realize that recent events here in the US are “not unexpected” if not “normal” (or what we wish was normal), and…

So I thank Bear for sending this one:  He said:

Hey, Nathan,
What with all the bad stuff in the news recently, I thought maybe you’d like a little comedy for your news commentary.

New Hampshire: Naughton may run to replace herself for Nashua’s Ward 4 House seat
“NASHUA – A special election to fill a House seat in Nashua’s Ward 4 vacated by State Rep.-elect Stacie Laughton could have a familiar ring to it. Laughton said Thursday that she plans to run in the District 31 race to replace her.”

Bear: A little background to make this…. “clear”. Sort of.
Barry Charles Laughton, Jr. was convicted of several felonies a few years ago. He then underwent “gender reassignment therapy” and changed his/her name to Stacie Laughton. Ms. Laughton then ran for the New Hampster state legislature, and, in a demonstration of exactly why the rest of the state would be happy to cede Nashua to Massachusetts, won.
Sadly, for the Democrats (you just _knew_ Laughton was a Democrat, right?), NH has a state law that bars convicted felons from running for or holding a state House seat. Apparently someone saw a news mention of Laughton previously being male and connected her to her former criminal identity.

Laughton then announced she would resign. Then she announced that she wouldn’t resign. Then she resigned. Now… She’s going to run to replace herself.

No word on how she expects to get around the state law barring her from running or holding the seat. Possibly another sex-change operation; I know our state Attorney General has a penis he isn’t using.

Popcorn sales in southern New Hampshire are up 127%.

Nathan: This plot would NEVER sell as a B-grade comedy (at least not before 1960 or so).  As a novel?  Self-published, maybe, but any decent vanity press operator would slit his wrists first.  But I expect it will win; voters are so vile.

On to other news: This next story has its funny elements, as well.  Anyone who has been to a standard Little Caesar’s can just picture this fight!

Self defense?
Man shot at Florida pizza shop for complaining about slow service
(Digital Journal) The Tampa Bay Times reports that the alleged incident occurred around 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Little Caesar’s pizzeria on Fourth Street North in St. Petersburg. Customer Randall White, 49, was growing tired of waiting for his thin-crust veggie pizza to be prepared. White complained about the slow service, much to the annoyance of customer Michael Jock, who was behind him in line. Jock, 52, told White to quit whining. The latter allegedly took offense, “prompting them to exchange words, and it became a shoving match,” according to police spokesman Mike Puetz. When White raised his fist, Jock allegedly pulled out a .38 Taurus Ultralight Special revolver and fired one round, which struck White in his lower torso. The two men struggled and Jock allegedly fired again, striking White in the same area.

Mama’s Note: NOT self-defense. Makes me wonder, really. What better way to discredit CC “permit” holders and self defense?

Nathan: If the story is correct, the headline is wrong, and maybe this guy DID shoot in self-defense. White (a vegetarian) was complaining about the slow service, and Jock, the guy behind him in line told him to stop whinging, but they started arguing, shoving, and then when White escalated things to fisticuffs, Jock pulled out a gun and shot him. Jock may have been the reason that the fighting escalated to a raised fist, but we know very little about the two of them.  The police claimed that he didn’t have reason to escalate to deadly force, but that is the police – and who can believe them?  Seems like this is why we have courts: hear the witnesses (at least three, counting the clerk), the two plaintiffs, and let the jury decide. Jock certainly should have (IMO) shut up after he made the one comment (if indeed, that was the time and place).  In a rational society, the clerk would have been armed and ordered BOTH customers to go outside and fight it out; and there would have been someplace safe (perhaps via a Boy Scout project) if they felt a resort to arms was necessary (and probably, it being Florida, a retired person or two to act as referee/umpire).

Mama’s Note: Well, all that is certainly true enough. I was just thinking about the fact that all who carry now are under a microscope and that any such situations will be used against us.

Nathan: Right, of course – EVERYTHING, even legitimate self-defense with no question about initiating aggression is suspect.

Which of course brings us to the news dominating the week, and the latest reason for the nation to continue to tear itself apart:

This one in particular is worth commenting on:

Newtown slaughter: End prohibition of self-defense in schools, say Libertarians
(Conservative Action Alerts) On Sunday, families throughout the nation mourned the horrific deaths of 26 people, including 20 young children, killed Friday during a Newtown, Conn., mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, said a political leader, who believes that government is not the solution to a problem, but government is the problem. “It’s impossible to imagine the depths of despair and grief that the victims’ families are experiencing right now,” said the chairman of the Libertarian National Committee, Geoffrey J. Neale.

Nathan: Interesting connections here: does this mean that the November 2012 loss is making at least SOME conservatives consider closer ties to Libertarians?  Also, this IS a good statement that Geoff Neale put together.  Hitting hard (for an LP national press release, that is) but NOT going to name-calling or esoteric discussions.

Mama’s Note: Some really hard hitting questions about all this here:
Sandy Hook massacre: Official story spins out of control
(Sott.net) The traumatised Newtown community deserves the facts without the spin. Everyone touched by this brutal event deserves to know what really happened, so let’s fix our eyes on what remains unseen…

A 20-year-old ‘tech geek’ named Adam Lanza is supposed to have snapped early last Friday, December 14th, shot dead his mother Nancy Lanza, loaded her car up with her guns and ammo, then driven it across town to his former school, the Sandy Hook Elementary School, shot dead 27 people in two classrooms and an adjoining hallway, then turned one of his guns on himself.

That’s how most will now remember the shooting, but is that actually what happened?

Of course, the mainstream news is playing its spin-game even more this week: you never heard about this one, did you?

Texas: Two wounded in theater shooting
(My San Antonio) A recent breakup set off a shooting spree that ended with the suspect wounding a man at the Santikos Mayan Palace 14 movie theater Sunday night before being shot by an off-duty deputy, authorities said. Police are shown questioning men outside the theater Sunday night.. Jesus Manuel Garcia, 19, an employee at a nearby China Garden restaurant, apparently became upset Sunday night after his girlfriend broke up with him.

Nathan: Thanks to Jeffrey for this: you were right: no MSM reporting at all.  The problem is, “if it bleeds, it leads.”  NOT getting a bunch of folks killed is viewed as dull and boring – it don’t sell the advertisements!

But then again, look at the coverage and the screams.  When it is WESTERNERS getting shot up, the hubbub seems to quickly die down.  Columbine, the Chuck-E-Cheese and the Aurora theatre killings got MUCH less coverage over a shorter period than the Virginia Tech killings or now the Sandy Hook murders.  Easterners are, of course, the elite (Californians and other Left-Coasters being honorary Easterners and not “flyover country.”  We wild barbarian uncouth dirt-daubers and animal herders are not worth as much to really civilized people, whether we are talking New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlanta, London or Paris.  As an example of us hick, stupid Westerners, consider this from Texas, THAT evil place.

(Dallas Libertarian Examiner) Hollist, a Dallas resident and 2012 LibertarianParty candidate for US Congress, launched “Teachers protection of children in schools!” on the activist website,causes.com…. Texas Teachers To Carry Guns – Reality vs. Political Correctness …His “Cause” features a poster of Israeli children being watched over by their teacher with a rifle slung over her shoulder.

Nathan: Actually, that is disinformation, as the following motivation poster (provided by pro-Palestinian supporters who obviously can be trusted to tell the truth) proves:

Note that the two teachers are blond, white “Aryan” types (who are claiming to be “Jews” – no doubt Ashkenazim) while all the children are “people of color” – surely, enough said.

Libertarian Commentary on the News #12-52A: Shootings and guns

Here are a series of stories related to the attack in Connecticut:

Once more, the evil found in people is exposed to the world, but sadly, most of the evil is not challenged: that is the evil of people who think that “one more law” or “one more ban” will stop this sort of thing.  And that we have to just let children die instead of protecting them.

Since the killer supposedly also killed himself, and the news stories and “authorities” are contradicting themselves hourly, it is worth noting the overall theme, taken from various websites and e-zines:

Nathan: Why not just introduce it right now?  I’m sure they’ve had it written and with the stuff ready to print for months waiting for this “perfect storm” to blow up.

Nathan: This idiot, Donne Warwick, is trying to replace Jesse Jackson Jr., (a failed liberal) and is liberal himself:  do as I say, not as I do version.  Was he afraid that Sandy Hook was part of a conspiracy and he was on the list? But he works for a security company (which is itself hypocritical, is it not, for an anti-gun State Senator) and says he “forgot.”

Nathan: Of course: they have no understanding of cause and effect, believe in aggression and revenge, and since they do not believe in a real God, no understanding of justice or anything else: they are liberals, in the modern sense.  They are what the old Law of Moses “eye-for-an-eye” was all about, because they are the kind of the people who kill someone for stealing something. They are the reason that Jesus advised His disciples to go out to preach and teach armed.  They are the ones that caused the Founding Fathers to include the Second Amendment.

Nathan: For the answer to that, I cannot do better than quote JPFO:

“Let’s get something straight — no amount of legislation can ever prevent bad people from committing bad deeds and no amount of “gun control” can ever prevent bad people from acquiring firearms. It must be accepted that in this current age defense is the answer and not deprivation of that means for the majority law abiding citizen, which should include suitably trained school staff members. When will people wake up to the fact?”

Nathan: This is the same idiot who also said that only the United States has these mass shootings because we have the Second Amendment.  How convenient it is to have a memory like his:  he can’t remember Norway (what was it, 52 dead?), nor Mesopotamia, nor Afghanistan, nor Pakistan, India, Syria, Egypt?  Nor Breslan (Russia)?  But worst, he can’t remember Mexico, where this is about average in the drug-cartel killing fields?  The point about almost ALL of these places: especially Norway and Mexico, is that gun ownership by private citizens is ILLEGAL and has been for years in those places.

Nathan: Seems to be doing a pretty good job of it so far.  Of course, it lets him be in full campaign mode, which seems to be his default setting.

Nathan: This sort of comment or news story totally disgusts me.  To paraphrase Patton, you aren’t a hero to die for your students.  These people: the principal and the psychologist weren’t heroes, they were ENABLERS together with the administrators, faculty, staff, and school boards of EVERY public school district in the nation: too cowardly to stand up for what is right and necessary to protect the children in their care.  As for the teacher who hid with her children: she is beyond disgusting:  she did nothing but die foolishly and as a result cause more children to die.

Nathan: Even lunatics can be evil.  Especially when they are drugged to “help them,” as so many of the killers seem to be these days.  But the evil resides in the hearts and minds of congressmen and other government officials, right down to school boards and superintendents who will not stand up for what is right.

    From my correspondents:

    (1) My first instinct on hearing about the Connecticut shooter being “disturbed” was to ask – what medications was he on.  This video, reported as being released in July 2012 is very chilling, very disturbing and underlines some concerns I have had for years about the overuse of psychotropic prescription medicines for all ages.  There are some interesting correlations between INCREASE in overall Violence and Psychotropic Prescription Medications…

    (2)  To the gun banners: Barbaric acts of murder will always take place and were not invented with the advent of gun powder.  Ceding all gun ownership to the State is a dangerous move that can result in MORE death in the future.  If you’re truly in a mood to ban things that cause harm, then be consistent and start with abortions, alcohol and all pornography.  You might even go so far as to ban the private ownership of automobiles and motorcycles.  Do you really want to trust every facet of your life to the government?  When two thugs break into your home with knives, why not meet them with a gun.  We love our law enforcement, but remember what has been stated in the past, “When seconds count, the police are just minutes away.”  We must take responsibility for some of our own defense.  If you want something done right, do it yourself.

    Darryl Treat, Arkansas

Monday news related to the Sandy Hook killings
Colorado: Massive spike in gun purchases after Sandy Hook killings

(Vision to America) The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says it received 4,154 requests for background checks from potential buyers on Saturday. That was so many the CBI couldn’t process them all and the backlog grew to nearly 18 hours. The Unit could only process 3,001 checks on Saturday. Extra staff was brought in over the weekend and workers are still trying to clear the backlog.

Oregon: Gun owner stops shooting spree
(PolicyMic.com) On Tuesday night, a complete idiot walked into a Portland, Oregon mall and began firing. Obviously the shooter, Jacob Roberts, was an imbecile to start with, since he managed to kill only two people before turning a gun on himself, but that’s not the whole story. As it turns out, 22-year-old Nick Meli was at the mall, and walking with his friend and their friend’s son. Nick said: “I heard three shots and turned and looked at Casey and said, ‘are you serious?'” Nick then directed his friend to a safe location and took up a position behind a pillar away from the shooter. Being a legal Concealed Carry permit holder in the State of Oregon, Nick determined that he should try to prevent more deaths. He said: “[The shooter] was working on his rifle, he kept pulling the charging handle and hitting the side,” as the shooter dealt with a jammed gun. Nick drew down on the shooter as they made eye contact, and Nick prepared to fire. However, he determined (like any conscious firearms owner should) that there were other people behind Roberts, and his shot was not safe. The only shot fired after this point was Roberts taking his own life.

Oregon mall shooter had sold belongings, acted ‘weird’
    (CNN International)
The gunman in last week’s Oregon mall shooting acted “weird” and had talked about moving and selling his possessions, his roommate said.

Nathan:  Nothing in the mainstream news about Nick Meli, of course.  Am I surprised?

Congress in action – Stupid hoploclasts and hoplophobes
Feinstein Introducing Gun Ban; Durbin Holding Hearings

    (CNSNews)

Nathan: As mentioned elsewhere, I’m sure she had this written before the Sandy Hook murders  Durbin holds hearings on whatever his staffers find in the daily newspapers.  I am sure that these will try and use this to ban ALL guns (in private ownership, of course).  But I think we’ve come to the point where even law-abiding gun owners will NOT obey any such law, no matter if the SCOTUS finds it legit or not.

Michael Moore: Killing Is ‘Who We Are’ As Americans
    (CNSNews)

Nathan: If this were the case, it is something that American “civilization” shares with a good many civilizations in the past, around the world:  Hittite, Akkadian, several of the Canaanite cultures, Roman, Carthagian, Hunnish, Islamic Arabian, Celtic (Irish and Scots), Prussian, Aztec, Iberian (Reconquista), most Plains AmerInd nations, and more.  But Moore is ignoring the better parts of American society because he hates the idea of individual liberty and freedom in all but a very few select areas, and because he supports a transnational agenda which common American values dooms.

Iran: ‘No Difference’ Between Conn. Shooting Victims and Those in Gaza, Iraq, Afghanistan
    (CNSNews)

Nathan: To a degree, they are right: most of the dead in those countries are killed directly and indirectly as the result of government actions – as were the 26 dead of the 28 total at Sandy Hook.  In those countries, many killings are by government agencies; the rest are caused by those fighting against government.  Here, the situation is different: we warehouse children in “gun-free” zones where any evil madman high on prescribed drugs for their mental condition, such disarming demanded and enforced by government.

Gohmert, Bennett: Ban Guns or Arm School Officials?
    (CNSNews)

Nathan: Well, it is nice to see that SOME politicians are willing to recommend the obvious.  Several people sent me photos of an Israeli teacher carrying an assault rifle standing behind her students on a field trip.  Good for her!  Of course, getting RID of public schools would also greatly improve the situation.

Obama: ‘Can We Honestly Say We Are Doing Enough to Keep Our Children, All of Them, Safe from Harm?
    (CNSNews)

Nathan: Of course we are NOT, as long as we do not allow teachers, staff, administrators, and parents to be armed in order to protect their children.
