Big government, big profits

As we have passed the first year of Uncle Joe’s regime, one thing should surprise us. Federal taxes have not yet increased. At least not directly.

This certainly cannot be wholly blamed on just plain Joe, of course. Unless we consider his glaring incompetence to be a reason. He and his minions (or caregivers) have certainly been trying very hard to raise billions and billions of dollars. The “Build Back Better” idea included such wonderful things as a new 15% gross receipts tax (sales tax, in other words) on business.

All of this is, we here at TPOL believe, all about getting money – making profits! (Of course, we know the mantra: governments are “non-profit” and they don’t “make money” – but we reject that as the hooey that it is.)

Today, let us (literally) talk about highway robbery.

Poor, poor New Mexico

Because of work, friends, and family, I pay attention to New Mexico a lot. That includes almost daily listening to a Farmington radio station’s state/local news. KENN, like Farmington itself, is an anomaly in New Mexico: it is a diverse yet conservative cultural area, in many ways more like Texas with AmerInd, than the rest of New Mexico.

How many fronts?

In WW2, the FedGov was apparently fighting a war, officially, on two fronts: The Great Pacific War against Japan (supported by primarily the British and their Empire as allies and China), and The Hitler War (with again, British Imperial allies, a handful of refugees, and of course that great “ally” Stalin’s Soviet Union).

Skip forward a about 80 years. The FedGov has been at war virtually constantly in that time, but only about five years of “all-out war” – the rest of the fighting has been intense but sporatic and on the whole have very little direct (and acknowledged) impact on the Home Front. And it has always had allies.

But now?

Blue-gang board vindicates psychopathic killer

Who watches the watchers? Who guards the guardians?

Perhaps the better question might be “who kills the killers?”

Call them what you want. The blue gang, the jack-booted thugs, the blue brotherhood. Their record grows sicker by the day. Not that there aren’t good cops – and I mean, really good – not the old definition “a good cop is one that stays bought.” But they seem to make the vast majority of their fellow-gangbangers look bad.

This week, “An internal investigation of the Metropolitan Police Department has reportedly found the beating of an unconscious Trump supporter by an officer during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot to be ‘objectively reasonable.'” As reported by NewsMax in a not-unexpected but still shocking story.

Lies and more lies – greenhouse gas and global warming

Realizing the article we will comment on is a couple of months old, it is still worth discussing. Virtually daily we are pounded with a dozen agitprop tales of manmade global warming from dozens of sources. On the internet, newspapers, television, radio, even billboards and flyers. It is important to have good talking points to count that.

The manmade climate change or manmade global warming scam is just that: a scam to create panic and persuade people around the world, but especially here in the States. Persuade them to do what? Surrender more and more power to the politicians (and the technocrats that work for them) and to accept lower standards of living – “sustainable” lifestyles that make the 21st Century a modern version of some Egyptian dynasty in which there was little or no progress for centuries.

Canadian tyranny revisited

Editor’s Note: A few days ago, TPOL posted a commentary asking if Canada was headed the way of its sister Commonwealth Australia. Apparently we didn’t go far enough: the proper question may be better stated as “Is Canada going the way of Germany in the 1930s?” Or bluntly, is Trudeau the younger looking to Adolf Hitler as his role model?”

At the time the last commentary was posted, we here at TPOL were unaware of an important development, although the New York Post published the story on 27 January 2022, In fact, I didn’t even know about what had happened when I wrote this commentary yesterday (the 9th February). So this commentary is being hastily revised (and is much longer than usual).

Setting new records – the Anti-Trumper regime

Uncle Joe has made it clear since Election Day 2020 that the dominant theme of his administration was to be to do the opposite of what The Donald and his people did for the previous four years.

He appears to be succeeding.

Why don’t they (politicians) fear us?

A recent comment caused me to think, when politicians do these stupid things, what on earth are they thinking?

By stupid things, I mean the recent call by spokeswoman for Uncle Joe, outright calling on media (social media, this time) to censor what the Administration doesn’t want heard. I refer to politicians claiming a protest/riot/invasion on January 6, 2021, was an attempt to overthrow the Federal Government. I am talking about the California General Assembly’s actions to double taxation in that State. I am talking about the effort in South Dakota by the governor and legislature to nullify a vote of the people legalizing marijuana. And thousands of other things – actions taken and attempted by politicians who believe they are our MASTERS.

Libertarian Lessons Learned: the Knights Templar

NOTE: This may be the first of a new, occasional series of commentaries looking at events and organizations of the past with the idea of learning lessons from what they did, good or bad. So that we lovers of liberty in the 21st Century can hopefully avoid the mistakes and repeat the successes. Please let TPOL know if this is of interest!

Warrior Monks and Entrepreneurs

Most people have heard of the Knights Templar (KT), the ancient military order of “christian” (Catholic) warriors. And today, there are 1500 groups worldwide who claim to either be successors or to carry on the ideals and activities of that order in some way. Today, there are those which are both pro- and anti-Masonic, Catholic and anti-Catholic and interdenominational.

California looks to increase rewards for those escaping from the State

It seems that every few days, we read another story from California. Stories about new regulatory requirements, new laws, new tyranny, new attacks on the family, business, and freedom. Every one of these makes it more beneficial to those who vote with their feet to Nevada, Texas, even Colorado and elsewhere.

The latest? A State Assembly-thug is proposing a law that would require parents of students at schools to disclose TO THE SCHOOL how many and what kind of guns and how they are stored in the home. According to Courthouse News, the “justification” for this is that most (68%) school shootings are done by students who take guns from home. The law would also allow warrantless searches of students’ property (that is, cars, bikes, backpacks, briefcases) on school property by the school – not just ALLOW but REQUIRE.
